Chapter 198 - 78: Dad, You’re Going to Be a Grandpa

If Jiang Li hadn’t bought the hospital, he truly couldn’t imagine any other reason the head nurse would personally come over and move Jing Shiyun into a VIP room.

He just wondered how much money Jiang Li had spent to acquire it.

He’d noticed something: Jiang Li’s money seemed to be a bottomless, inexhaustible supply.

Buying up properties nationwide, acquiring shares worth hundreds of billions on a whim... it was as if she wasn’t spending real money.

Jiang Li cleared her throat and shot Shen Yanzhi a look. "See it, but don’t say it. That’s how we stay a happy couple."

Shen Yanzhi pantomimed zipping his lips. "Don’t worry, my lips are sealed."

Probably because Jing Shiyun was still on an IV, the head nurse said they should move her to the VIP room after the drip was finished.

In truth, there wasn’t much to move. Jing Shiyun’s incident had been so sudden that the two of them had arrived empty-handed.

But after they arrived and got the X-rays done, the doctor said she needed surgery.

So "moving their things" really just meant moving from one hospital room to another.

Jiang Li glanced around and noticed the bedside table was completely bare, without so much as a bag on it.

Jing Shiyun was about to have surgery, which meant she’d be in the hospital for ten to fifteen days. She would definitely need some changes of clothes and other items.

Even if she had to wear a hospital gown, she couldn’t possibly wear nothing underneath.

With that in mind, Jiang Li said, "I see you two didn’t bring anything. While we have some time, I’ll go out and buy a few necessities."

Jing Shiyun immediately held up a hand to stop her, speaking with displeasure, "Buy things? Why? Just have your dad go home and grab a few things. We have plenty at home; there’s no need to buy new."

Even if you have money, you can’t be this wasteful.

Jiang Li couldn’t help but pout and mutter under her breath, "Why so harsh..."

Knowing Jiang Li had good intentions and fearing she might start sulking, Shen Yanzhi quickly stepped in. "Mom, I actually have some business at the office to take care of. I’m going to step out for a bit, but I’ll be back soon."

Jing Shiyun waved her hand dismissively. "It’s fine. If you have things to do, go ahead. I’ll be fine with just your dad here."

In truth, Shen Yanzhi couldn’t be of much help here anyway, other than to chat, wash fruit, and peel it for her.

Shen Yanzhi turned to Jiang Li. "Do you want to come with me?"

Their gazes met, and Jiang Li instantly understood what Shen Yanzhi was planning.

With a knowing "Oh," she said, "I just remembered, my assistant needed me to stop by the office."

She looked at Jiang Bowen and Jing Shiyun apologetically. "Dad, Mom, we’ll head out for now. We’ll be back as soon as we’re finished."

Jing Shiyun smacked her lips, a bit suspicious of Jiang Li’s excuse, but she waved them off anyway. "Go on, then."

In any case, she was just on an IV drip for now. The surgery wasn’t until the afternoon.

If the kids needed to be busy, then let them be busy.

The moment they stepped out of the hospital room, Shen Yanzhi asked tentatively, "So, are we heading to the mall?"

Jiang Li didn’t answer, asking instead, "Don’t you think I’m being reckless with my money?"

Shen Yanzhi smiled. "It’s only reckless if you don’t have the financial means. When you do have the means, it’s not called being reckless—it’s called a sound investment."

Shen Yanzhi’s words were just the cure for Jiang Li’s slightly subdued mood.

She gave him a thumbs-up. "Spoken like a true scholar."

The smile on Shen Yanzhi’s face grew even brighter. "You flatter me, my dear."

Jiang Li couldn’t help but touch her reddening earlobes, muttering, ’Why is he calling me ’my dear’ all of a sudden?’

Shen Yanzhi didn’t quite catch that and leaned closer to her. "Hm? What did you just say?"

Jiang Li turned her head, and her lips landed right on the side of Shen Yanzhi’s face.

This time, the blush wasn’t just on her earlobes; it spread across her face and she felt it flush through her whole body.

She took a step back and shot him a playfully indignant glare. "What are you doing?!"

Shen Yanzhi raised a hand to touch the spot she had just kissed, the corners of his lips turning up. "I just wanted to hear what you said. Besides, we’re a legally married couple. What’s there to be embarrassed about?"

Like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on, Jiang Li’s fur was instantly ruffled. "I’m not speaking to you!"

With that, she spun around and stalked toward the elevators, showing no intention of waiting for Shen Yanzhi.

Seeing he had actually made her angry, Shen Yanzhi quickly reached out, grabbing her arm and coaxing, "Alright, alright! Don’t be mad. I was wrong." ’But I’d do it again.’

’A little teasing now and then is good for a marriage.’

’After all, it’s just a bit of fun between a husband and wife. Besides, she wasn’t really angry, just shy.’

The thought of a "next time" made Shen Yanzhi’s pulse quicken with excitement.

Jiang Li snorted. Without turning back or slowing down, she said, "You always say you’re wrong, but you just do it again the next time."
