Taming Beasts in the Apocalypse... Wait, I Have to Birth Pups?!
Chapter 84 Another Useless Piece of Garbage!
She sliced downward. The sword cut through the air with a loud whoosh, colliding with the silver feathers on the bird’s shoulder. Sparks flew everywhere like fireworks, and a sharp screech of tearing metal echoed through the trees. The low-grade sword wasn’t strong enough to pierce the S-rank armor completely, but the sheer weight of her spiritual energy pushed the mother bird downward, causing her to crash heavily onto the forest floor.
Boom!
The giant bird hit the ground, sweeping through the silver ferns and knocking over a small tree.
Xue Yao tumbled across the grass, quickly rolling to her feet before flipping her hair back. She threw the notched, broken sword aside without a single drop of guilt. "Useless low-grade trash," she muttered, pouting.
The mother bird scrambled back onto her massive feet, her bloodshot eyes burning with an intense, murderous rage. Her feathers puffed out until she looked twice her original size. She opened her beak, and a bright circle of silver moonlight began to condense inside her throat, preparing to launch a devastating energy blast that would wipe out the entire clearing.
Xue Yao’s scalp tingled, but a ruthless smirk curved on her lips. She reached into her belt and pulled out her last remaining support weapon: the Sticky Trap.
"You want to shoot lasers? Try doing it with your mouth shut!"
Xue Yao threw the trap with perfect precision. The moment it left her hand, the trap expanded into a massive, thick web of transparent, super-sticky spiritual glue. It flew straight into the bird’s open beak, wrapping tightly around her upper and lower jaws just as the silver light reached its peak.
Mmph!
The mother bird’s eyes bulged out in sheer shock. The silver energy blast exploded inside her own closed mouth, sending thick plumes of grey smoke pouring out of her nostrils. She stumbled backward, coughing and wheezing as the sticky glue held her beak completely shut.
The five wolf pups sitting in the bushes stared with their mouths hanging wide open. Their ears were twitching in absolute, utter disbelief.
"S-She... she closed a Spirit King’s mouth with a piece of glue..." Tie Tou stammered, his eyes looking like sauces.
Little Ancestor clutched the white egg tighter, his heart thundering with pure admiration. ’She really is the coolest human ever!’
Xue Yao didn’t wait for the bird to recover. She sprinted forward with a speed of lightning, grabbing her giant Drumstick weapon from the grass. She jumped mid-air, doing a full backflip before descending straight toward the mother bird’s head for one final, decisive blow.
"I told you!" Xue Yao yelled, her voice echoing with pure, unadulterated defiance. "You are a chicken! No matter how big you are!"
...
Deep inside the mountains, the explosive sounds of her battle had already reached the ears of the main hunting party. Lie Lang’s golden eyes suddenly sharpened as he caught a familiar, sweet human scent drifting through the wind from the outer region. His chest tightened with a sudden wave of panic.
"Han Luo! Return to the camp now!" Lie Lang ordered hoarsely, his figure instantly vanishing into a silver blur as he raced back toward the clearing.
....
The Sticky Trap didn’t hold for long. With a loud, tearing sound, the mother bird violently ripped her beak open, shreds of the transparent glue flying across the grass. Her bloodshot eyes burned with a madness that made the surrounding air feel completely heavy. The grey smoke pouring from her nostrils turned into bright silver flames as she let out a screech that literally split the bark of the nearest ancient tree.
Xue Yao’s breath left her lungs. Her feet slid backward on the damp soil, her palms dripping with cold sweat. ’This is bad. This is really bad!’ She thought inwardly, her teeth grinding together as the crushing S-rank pressure returned ten times stronger.
"Little Ancestor! Take the pups and run!" Xue Yao yelled without looking back, her voice rough and desperate. "Go back to the camp! Now!"
Little Ancestor froze, clutching the warm white egg tightly against his chest. His wolf ears twitched in panic. "But Xue Yao...!"
"I said go!" She snapped ruthlessly, her eyes narrowing as she took a defensive stance. "You are all just target practice for this oversized turkey! Get out of my way!"
Tie Tou, Xiao Feng, and A-Hui scrambled out of the bushes, their tiny bodies still trembling from the previous wing slap. Tie Tou grabbed the crying Mu Dou by his orange tail, dragging him up. "Young Master, we have to go! We can’t help her!"
Realizing they were only dragging her down, Little Ancestor bit his lower lip until it nearly bled. He shot one last worried look at her before turning around. "Follow me!" He shouted. The five wolf pups bolted into the dense ferns, running as fast as their little limbs could carry them, completely disappearing into the thick forest.
The moment the kids left, the mother bird’s attention locked entirely onto Xue Yao.
Screech!
The giant white bird lunged. Her massive, rock-crushing talons came down like two falling boulders.
Xue Yao didn’t dare to face it head-on. She channeled her Spirit Initiate energy into her boots, jumping to the left just as the talons slammed into the ground.
Boom!
The earth shattered, sending dirt, rocks, and broken roots exploding into the air. One large stone caught Xue Yao squarely in the shoulder, forcing a painful grunt from her lips. She rolled across the grass, quickly pulling out her Low-Grade Beast Severing Dagger.
She scrambled to her feet and leaped toward the bird’s leg, driving the blade downward with all her strength.
Clang!
The dagger hit the silver-glowing armor and immediately snapped at the hilt. The low-grade metal couldn’t even leave a scratch on the S-rank feathers.
’Are you kidding me?! Another useless piece of garbage!’ Xue Yao screamed inwardly, tossing the broken hilt away.
Before she could recover, the mother bird’s massive wing swept forward like a heavy iron wall.
Bang!
The impact was so violent that Xue Yao felt her ribs groan. She was sent flying through the air like a ragdoll, her body crashing hard into the trunk of a giant tree before tumbling onto the dirt. Her vision turned completely blurry around the edges, and a sharp, metallic taste filled her mouth as blood dripped from the corner of her lips.
"Oww..." She groaned, her whole body shaking as she tried to pull herself up. Every muscle felt as though it had been hammered into pulp.
The mother bird didn’t give her a single second to breathe. She strode forward, her massive golden feet descending right over Xue Yao’s torso.
Thud!
