Little Ancestor ground his teeth together, his golden eyes filled with helpless panic. "There wasn’t supposed to be a high-level beast here! The scouting party cleared this path yesterday! Brother would have never let us come near if an S-level monster was nesting here!"

Hearing the words S-level beast and Spirit King, Xue Yao’s brain instantly short-circuited.

’An S-level beast?! Peak of the Spirit King realm?!’ She screamed inwardly, her soul practically packing its bags to leave her body. ’The silver wolf Lie Lang is an S-level beast, and he almost choked the life out of me with one hand! I’m just an early-stage Spirit Initiate! I’m basically an ant compared to this thing!’

Her previous desire to protect the pups vanished into thin air. Survival came first.

’Screw the dignity! Screw the chicken! Screw the egg! I’m leaving!’ She thought frantically. Her fingers immediately reached toward her Medium-Grade Shadow Escape Talisman. With one thought, she could use Shadow Blink to travel a thousand miles away, leaving this terrifying forest behind and keeping her own neck intact.

She turned around, ready to run. "Alright, puppies, it was nice knowing you, but my mom is waiting for me on Earth..."

Before she could finish her sentence, a heavy weight suddenly latched onto her right leg.

Xue Yao looked down. The chubby pup, Mu Dou, had thrown himself onto the grass, wrapping both arms tightly around her boot. Tears and snot were streaming down his round cheeks as he sobbed loudly, his body shaking with terror.

"Sister Xue Yao! Don’t leave us!" Mu Dou wailed, hugging her leg like a lifesaver. "The big bird is going to eat me! I’m the fattest one, she’ll definitely eat me first! Ahhhh!"

Xue Yao’s lips twitched violently. "Let go of my leg, you chubby little traitor! How am I supposed to run if you’re anchoring me to the ground?!"

"No! If you run, we die!" Mu Dou cried louder, burying his face deeper into her pants.

While Mu Dou was holding her hostage, the other three pups suddenly found a strange burst of courage.

"Protect the Young Master!" Tie Tou yelled, his voice cracking. He held his spear and rushed forward, trying to use the spear to injure the massive leg of the bird.

Xiao Feng quickly pulled his tiny bow, releasing three small arrows one after another. Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! The arrows flew straight toward the bird’s chest, but the moment they touched the silver-glowing feathers, they snapped into pieces and fell to the dirt without leaving a single scratch.

A-Hui transformed into his wolf, while standing defensively in front of Little Ancestor, but the mother bird merely flapped her left wing. A powerful wave of air slammed into the three pups, sending them flying across the clearing like little pebbles.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

They crashed into the bushes, groaning in pain as their tiny ears drooped completely. They couldn’t even pierce through her defensive light. The difference in strength was simply too ridiculous.

The mother bird screeched again, her fierce gaze moving from the fallen pups back to the smooth white egg near Xue Yao’s feet. She lifted one massive, rock-crushing talon, intending to flatten both Xue Yao and the chubby pup currently glued to her leg.

Xue Yao stood frozen, her thoughts battling fiercely inside her head.

’Xue Yao, use the talisman right now! Shake the kid off! If you stay, you’re going to end up as bird food! You don’t owe these wolves anything! They locked you in a cellar and called you a breeder!’ The lazy, survival-first voice screamed.

’But the kid climbed a wall to bring you chickens!’ Another voice fought back. ’The little ancestor used his imperial treasure to help you sneak out! If you run away now, five children are going to be ripped apart because you stole an egg!’

’So what?! It’s a monster world! People die here every day!’

’But you are Bai Xue Yao! Lin Shuying didn’t raise a coward!’

The massive talon descended from the sky, rushing down with enough force to split the earth. The sheer arrogance in the mother bird’s eyes completely triggered Xue Yao’s ruthless streak.

’You know what? I’m thoroughly annoyed!’ She seethed inwardly, her eyes turning pitch black with sudden fury. ’First Lie Lang strangles me over some fish, then the maids turn me into a catfish, and now this oversized turkey thinks she can stomp on me like a bug?! I am a transmigrated human with a divine system! How dare a chicken look down on me!’

With a swift, aggressive movement, she scooped up the smooth white egg from the ferns and flung it straight at Little Ancestor.

"Little Ancestor! Catch!" Xue Yao shouted.

Little Ancestor’s eyes widened, and he clumsily caught the warm egg against his chest, staggering backward. "Xue Yao?!"

"Hold onto that egg and don’t let her touch it!" Xue Yao ordered, her voice rough and dripping with attitude. She fiercely kicked Mu Dou away from her leg. "Get off me, chubby! I need to teach this overgrown parrot some manners!"

With a single thought, she summoned her Chicken Drumstick of Absolute Persuasion. The massive weapon, as big as half her body, materialized in her hands.

Xue Yao pushed off the ground with her newfound Spirit Initiate strength. Her boots left deep imprints in the soil as she leaped high into the air, completely defying gravity. Her long black hair flew wildly behind her shoulders as she rose straight toward the mother bird’s head.

"You think you’re the only one who can fly?!" Xue Yao screeched in the bird’s face.

She swung the massive drumstick with all her strength.

Whack!

The heavy weapon connected squarely with the side of the mother bird’s beak. A loud, echoing boom resounded through the forest. The sheer force of the impact actually made the giant bird’s head tilt to the side, her silver-glowing armor flickering for a split second. The bird let out a surprised, painful squawk, completely shocked that a weak human could actually deliver such a physical blow.

Xue Yao landed gracefully on top of a thick branch, her chest heaving up and down. Her eyes narrowed as she swiped across her system screen in a wisp of lightning speed.

"Tian Lan is asleep, but I still have my own arsenal!" She muttered under her breath.

She reached into her inventory and pulled out the Low-Grade Beast Slaying Sword. Even though she didn’t know professional swordsmanship, her body still remembered the martial arts forms her mother had forced her to practice until her limbs bled.

She jumped off the branch, falling straight toward the bird’s back. She held the sword with both hands, channeling her Spirit Initiate spiritual energy into the blade.

"Let’s see if your silver armor can withstand my almighty blade!"
