Chapter 102: Disappear

Liu Yun looked at the girl’s outstretched hands, then swallowed hard. Shaking her head like a rattle drum, she quickly said, "No, no, no. I want to be with Elder Brother Ye."

Hearing this, the girl looked disappointed, while Ye Xuan glanced at Liu Yun and felt a strange sense of satisfaction. The corner of his lips curved up slightly as he thought, ’She chose me.’

Ye Xuan nodded, then squatted down in front of her. Seeing Liu Yun just staring at him with wide eyes, he calmly said, "Come up. I’ll carry you."

After being rejected by her, Ye Xuan frowned slightly. A few seconds passed in silence before he asked, "Can you climb up there?"

Liu Yun paused for a second, then looked at the big hole above her head.

"...." Right... I really can’t climb up to that hole.

After a moment of silence, she obediently climbed onto Ye Xuan’s back.

"Hold on tight," Ye Xuan reminded her, then turned to the girl and ordered, "Lead the way."

The girl gave Ye Xuan a dissatisfied look, then jumped up toward the hole. Seeing this, Ye Xuan kicked off the ground and followed her closely.

Leaning on Ye Xuan’s back, Liu Yun helplessly thought, ’This team is getting worse by the day. After the Zombie Emperor, now I even contracted the Mutant Queen. I hope the protagonists won’t hunt me down in the future.’

While Liu Yun was filled with worry about her bleak future, at the entrance of the Niu Ma Village, Lian Tianci and the soldiers were in shock.

Looking at the empty space where the black vines had been a second ago, one of the soldiers rubbed his eyes and asked, "Am I seeing things? The black vines suddenly vanished!"

When his shocked voice echoed through the silent surroundings, the other soldiers came back to their senses and scanned the area.

Standing not far from the entrance of Niu Ma Village, Lian Tianci squatted down and checked the traces left on the ground.

Beside him, a soldier asked, "Captain, do the black vines possess an invisibility ability?"

Lian Tianci thought for a moment, then stood up and said, "No. The black vines really vanished in front of our eyes."

Hearing this, the soldiers all turned to look at him.

Facing their tense and worried faces, Lian Tianci calmly ordered, "Let’s go and check on the giant tree."

Knowing that they couldn’t leave this village without finding out the truth, the soldiers nodded and responded in unison, "Yes, Captain."

With that, Lian Tianci led the soldiers and rushed toward the giant tree’s location. Along the way, they didn’t encounter any danger or get attacked by the black vines.

Thanks to the smooth journey, they reached the giant tree’s location in less than twenty minutes. However, the second they arrived at the large opening, Lian Tianci’s expression sank.

At the center of the spacious area where the giant tree had been, only a deep, large hole remained. Scattered around the hole were more than fifty black sacks.

Drawing in a sharp breath, one of the soldiers pointed at the black sacks and exclaimed in horror, "Look! There are people inside those black sacks!"

The second he said this, the other soldiers quickly looked at the black sacks on the ground. When they saw the faces behind the thin membranes of the black sacks, more than half of them vomited on the spot.

"Blergh!"

Glancing at the vomiting soldiers, Lian Tianci calmly walked toward the nearest black sack. Pulling out his military dagger, he squatted down, then slashed through the thin membrane of the black sack.

As the thin membrane was cut open, the transparent, gooey liquid flowed out of the black sack, and the man trapped inside slid out of it.

Lian Tianci closed his eyes for two seconds as he suppressed his nausea before looking at the man. Reaching out toward the man’s nose, he calmly checked his breathing.

A few seconds passed in silence before he sighed.

"Captain, how is he? Is he dead?" asked the nearby soldier as he wiped his lips.

"He is dead," Lian Tianci replied, then stood up and commanded, "Check the other black sacks and see if there are any survivors."

"Yes, Captain!" The soldiers received the order, then spread out to cut open the black sacks.

A few minutes later, one of the soldiers reported, "Captain, there are no survivors."

Lian Tianci had already guessed this outcome, so he didn’t show any reaction when he heard the soldier’s report. He fell into silence for a few seconds before saying, "Burn the bodies."

"Yes, Captain."

As the soldiers dragged the bodies and stacked them up together with the black sacks, Lian Tianci checked the deep hole. Staring into it, he frowned deeply.

’There is no trace left behind except for this deep hole. It looks like the giant tree suddenly disappeared from this place.’

’Could it be that the giant tree really possesses a unique ability that allows it to move freely? If that is really the case, then this matter is more troublesome than I thought.’

While he was thinking, the soldiers were busy burning the bodies and the black sacks.

Half an hour later, one of the soldiers came over and said, "Captain, we have cleared this area."

"Good. Let’s go back," Lian Tianci ordered, and then the group rushed back to regroup with the rest of the soldiers.

Meanwhile, Ye Xuan and Liu Yun had arrived twenty meters away from the military convoy.

Placing Liu Yun down, Ye Xuan looked at the girl and said, "We can’t bring her back with us."
