Chapter 406: Chapter 248: Coming to the Rescue (Part 2)

’He’d never absorbed power on his own; it was all thanks to the Sword Saint System. Logically, the energy or bloodline of any ancient race should work, since their bodies all contained a wealth of energy. If that’s really the case, I could give it a try this time. It’s just that each ancient race is tougher than the last. That Witch Summoner left a deep impression on me. Now there are two of them, and I’m not confident I can win... but I have to try regardless.’

’With so many people at Dragon Gate, it’ll be easier for me to escape if things go south. It’s an awful thought, but if it comes to that, it’s my only option.’

"So that’s how it is."

After a long moment of contemplation, Su Xing finally gave a quiet reply, then started walking straight ahead.

Seeing Su Xing’s reaction, the man followed him, letting out a heavy sigh of relief as he said,

"I’m so glad you understand."

"Oh, but we’re going the wrong way to leave. Elder Su, please, this way."

But even as he spoke, Su Xing didn’t break his stride. A bad feeling welled up inside the man. Just then, Su Xing suddenly chuckled and said,

"I never said I was leaving."

...

「Outside the Dragon Gate.」

The ground was littered with rubble and corpses. In just two or three minutes, countless people had been killed. They were being slaughtered faster than chickens.

Two figures stood in the center, one dressed in black, the other in white. Their faces were painted with strange makeup, completely obscuring their features. A terrifying power radiated from them, and both wore strange, tall hats.

On their hats were written two phrases: "Peace to the World" and "Fortune at First Sight."

Upon arriving at Dragon Gate, they had begun killing indiscriminately, never moving from their spot or doing anything else. It seemed their sole purpose for coming was to slaughter. The two remaining Tier Eight Dragon Gate Elders were utterly bewildered by the situation.

Dragon Gate had four Tier Eight Powerhouses in total.

Ao Lin, Ao Shi, and these two Tier Eight Elders. With Sect Leader Ao Lin and Ao Shi yet to return, these two Elders represented Dragon Gate’s strongest fighting force. Yet, before the two invaders, they were like slightly larger chicks, completely unable to inflict any harm.

As for Li Ye, he hadn’t been seen since the day of the arranged duel. No one knew what he was doing or where he’d gone.

However, he was a wanted criminal to begin with, so his sudden disappearance didn’t strike anyone as odd. In fact, it felt perfectly normal.

"Gentlemen, Dragon Gate has never provoked either of you. My brother and I have never even heard of your prestigious names. If you are willing to leave, Dragon Gate is willing to let this matter rest."

"Bullshit! They’ve killed so many of our Dragon Gate Disciples! When the Sect Leader and Ao Shi get back, they’ll make them pay!"

"..."

These two Elders were brothers. Unlike Ao Lin and Ao Shi, who didn’t get along, their relationship was quite good. The older brother was more level-headed, while the younger was extremely hot-tempered.

Hearing his younger brother’s outburst, he felt a surge of unease. They were both Tier Eight Powerhouses and had sensed the recent fluctuations in the sky. In fact, he suspected that either Ao Shi or Ao Lin wasn’t coming back.

’This means their strength is probably absurdly high. If my brother and I insist on fighting them, we’ll likely die a horrible death.’

’But Dragon Gate is behind me. It’s the place that raised me. I worked my way up from an ordinary disciple to what I am today. How can I just run away with my tail between my legs like a beaten dog?’

"Not talking? I asked you, why did you come here and senselessly slaughter so many of our Dragon Gate Disciples?!"

The younger brother was hot-tempered, but his fear was very real. His bravado was just a front, an attempt to bolster his own courage with a loud roar. He knew he and his brother had no path of retreat. If they fell back, countless more would die.

Among those people were their own disciples, friends, and even family. No matter what, they could not back down.

"Noisy,"

the black-faced man said coolly.

The moment he spoke, his figure vanished. In the next instant, the younger of the two Dragon Gate Elders was sent flying, his body bent like a shrimp. Before he could even see a shadow, he slammed into the Dragon Gate’s main gate behind him.

The black-faced man reappeared in his original spot. He hadn’t dealt a killing blow; it seemed he was waiting for someone to appear.

"Ah Ke!"

Ao Weiming cried out in alarm, but he didn’t dare go check on his brother. He was afraid any movement would expose an opening.

"I’m... fine..."

Ao Ke managed to say.

’That blow almost killed me, but it felt like he held back. He didn’t kill me, which made me wonder... why? Am I still useful to them for some reason?’

...

Ao Ke felt like he was beginning to understand.

’There’s only one reason they didn’t kill me. They think someone will come to save me. If they kill too many people from Dragon Gate, they’re afraid that person won’t show up.’

’And there really is someone at Dragon Gate strong enough to turn the tide. If he made a move, very few people in this world could stop him. The problem is, he doesn’t even know how strong he really is.’

’He’s in the Treasure Pavilion right now. But besides people within Dragon Gate, very few know he’s there. Even among the disciples who’ve been to the Treasure Pavilion, not many have actually seen him.’

’If that’s true, then these two are here to draw him out. But why?’

’Qin Mo’s life is mundane, unbelievably so. Aside from a single trip to Kunlun Mountain over a hundred years ago, he’s lived in the Treasure Pavilion ever since.’

...

’Wait... Kunlun Mountain.’

’Could it be related to something that happened on Kunlun Mountain?’

Ao Ke was a Dragon Gate Elder, after all. Once he calmed down to think, his thoughts became much clearer.

If Su Xing were to learn of this, he would immediately realize that Qin Mo had lied to him. Qin Mo had told Su Xing he had lived in the Treasure Pavilion for seven or eight hundred years without ever leaving. He had also suppressed his power when sparring with Su Xing, but that was understandable, as they had only just met.

The ones who went to Kunlun Mountain back then... Qin Mo of Dragon Gate, the Tier Nine from the Capital City, and the Martial God of Cang City. After returning from Kunlun Mountain, all three chose to live in seclusion, rarely interfering in worldly affairs.

’Could this be related?’

"Tsk..."

"He’s more heartless than I thought."

The white-faced man’s voice was sinister and unsettling. The black-faced man beside him nodded in agreement.

"If he won’t come out, let’s just kill everyone here. It’s time to move on to our next stop."

!!!

Those simple, direct words shattered Ao Ke’s train of thought. He forced himself to his feet, trying to rally his heavily injured body, but all he felt was a wave of powerlessness.

’The black and white duo seems to be targeting me. They must think that since I’m badly hurt, it’ll be easier to kill me first and then deal with my brother.’

’Or maybe they aren’t thinking at all. Maybe it’s just pure combat instinct, an instinct that has led them to the most effective tactic.’

Ao Ke could only watch helplessly as two blurry afterimages shot toward him. He tried to move, but his body was far too slow. If nothing stopped them, even for an instant, he would be blasted to smithereens.

VMMMM!

Suddenly, the air hummed with the sound of a sword!

A crimson streak of sword light shot between the two attackers like a cannonball. The black and white duo instinctively took a step back, giving Ao Ke the opening he needed to flash aside and escape the fatal blow.

"..."

The two invaders glanced down at their fists. A shallow, bloody line had appeared on each. It was a minor wound, but it made their expressions turn grim.
