Chapter 401 - 246: Dead
Chapter 401: Chapter 246: Dead
"Tsk, tsk."
Li Longxuan looked at Su Xing, unable to hold back his admiration, and said,
"I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect that. You’re surprisingly capable. Taking him down in one move is no simple feat."
"You flatter me, Elder Li."
Su Xing chuckled and said, "Elder Ao went easy on me. Otherwise, there’s no way he would have surrendered after a single move. With his strength, he should have been able to fight me for much longer."
"Fight for much longer, only to be defeated by you anyway?"
Li Longxuan found Su Xing’s words amusing. He chuckled, shook his head, and said,
"Su, we Tier Eight Powerhouses have an incredibly strong perception of our enemies. We can pretty much size them up the instant we engage."
"That fellow Ao Lin is the Dragon Gate Master, after all. If he thought he could win, why would he ever surrender in front of so many of his disciples?"
"It’s because he knew he would lose even if he kept fighting. It was better to surrender early and avoid more serious injuries. Besides, his loss was so unconventional that the other Dragon Gate disciples probably didn’t see what we saw."
"So, after you leave, all he has to do is spin the situation a bit, and he can project the magnanimous air of a senior master. That will minimize the impact of this loss."
Li Longxuan had figured all this out just by watching from the sidelines, and that included Ao Lin’s thought process. As the de facto ruler of Cang City for many years, Li Longxuan was all too familiar with these sorts of intricate political games.
This was precisely why Li Longxuan had a more accurate grasp of the power Su Xing now possessed, and why he was so stunned by his growth rate.
"But don’t let this go to your head. With your current strength, you could probably do whatever you want in Cang City—aside from challenging the Martial God, that is. But this world is vast, and there’s no telling how many other powerhouses are lurking out there."
"No one knows if Tier Nine is the true limit in this era, or if those God-tier experts are even still alive. We can’t afford to become arrogant."
"Don’t worry."
At these words, Su Xing’s expression turned serious. It wasn’t just that the world was vast; he was already beginning to encounter the things hidden behind its facade. The Witch Summoner, for instance, was no simple character.
’The Witch Summoner had fought me to a standstill when I used Three Broken Swords, and even managed a swift escape after being put at a disadvantage. Power like that was on a completely different level from ordinary Tier Eight Extraordinary Beings like Lin Tianhan or Ao Lin.’
’And that was to say nothing of the powerhouses who ranked above the Witch Summoner. Those Tier Nine or even God-tier individuals might very well still exist. There’s no way I can afford to be arrogant.’
’It was said that the Witch Summoner, as powerful as he was, was also just a Tier Eight Powerhouse. This meant the gap within Tier Eight could be even greater than the gap between Tier Seven and Tier Eight. The difference between experts at the same tier could be as vast as heaven and earth.’
’The Witch Summoner was that powerful without even reaching Tier Nine. How could I, a mere Tier Six, dare to be conceited?’
"I definitely won’t get arrogant. After all, I’m still a long, long way from the word ’invincible’,"
Su Xing said with conviction.
"Good."
Li Longxuan nodded with a smile.
Invincible. It was a simple, direct, and somewhat arrogant word, but coming from Su Xing, Li Longxuan found it perfectly natural.
Young people should have their own brand of pride. If a young man acted like an old codger, he’d be wasting his youth—especially a young man as gifted as this one.
Li Longxuan’s warning wasn’t meant to strip Su Xing of his pride, but to make him understand that there’s always someone stronger out there, and that he should always think before he acts.
Just then, a sudden knock came from the door of the contestants’ lounge. Su Xing and Li Longxuan exchanged a glance. After Li Longxuan gave a slight nod, Su Xing called out,
"Who is it?"
"I’m a Dragon Gate Disciple. I’m just here with a reminder: please remain in the martial arts arena area for the time being."
"Hmm?"
Su Xing frowned at the man’s words. He could clearly read between the lines—something unexpected must have happened at Dragon Gate. He immediately asked,
"What’s going on?"
"Do you need our help?"
"Er..."
The man was about to refuse, but then he remembered the power Su Xing had just displayed. After a moment’s thought, he finally said,
"Elder Su, it’s not that we at Dragon Gate are trying to hide anything. We just haven’t found any conclusive proof of an incident yet. For now, we only have a feeling that something isn’t right. That’s why we’re reminding all the disciples and elders not to wander off, just to be safe and avoid any confusion."
"I see."
Su Xing nodded. "If something does happen, please let us know right away. We might be able to help."
"Of course. We all saw your two matches. It would be wonderful to have your help, Elder Su. As soon as we find anything, we’ll send someone to inform you immediately. For now, we have to go warn the others, so we’ll be taking our leave."
