Chapter 369 - 230: Crushing Defeat
Chapter 369: Chapter 230: Crushing Defeat
"What do you need?"
Su Xing stared into his eyes and asked, enunciating every word.
"I don’t need anything. I don’t have many strengths, but my greatest one is that I know my own limits. I never covet strange and wondrous treasures."
"If you must insist on what I need, I can only say that when the time comes, the situation will descend into chaos. That will give me more opportunities for revenge."
Feng Jue’s face was filled with resentment, as if he truly had no interest in anything else, his mind consumed only by thoughts of revenge.
"Aren’t you getting the short end of the stick, then?"
Su Xing narrowed his eyes, staring intently at the man before him. After a long moment, he spoke.
"Of course I’m not," Feng Jue said, forcing a smile. "You could say I’m even using you. Besides, creating an opportunity like this for me is more than enough."
"You’re quite the loyal friend, going to such lengths to avenge someone from your childhood."
Su Xing said with a smile.
Of course, he didn’t actually believe this young man who claimed to be seeking revenge was *only* thinking about revenge. It was the kind of ridiculous story only a complete novice would fall for. In fact, it made Su Xing even more certain that there was something off about him.
"Senior, what do you think?" Feng Jue said, his face all smiles. "Or perhaps you have no desire to get involved in these muddy waters either."
"Heh, your goading won’t work on me."
Su Xing said with a laugh. "But there’s some truth to what you said. I’ll accompany you on this trip."
After all, Su Xing really did need that flower, so there was no harm in cooperating with him. As for playing both sides, Su Xing felt no guilt whatsoever.
"That’s wonderful! I look forward to a pleasant cooperation between us, Senior," Feng Jue said, feigning delight.
"Haha, you’re the one providing the information. I should be the one thanking you."
"I don’t deserve such words. Senior, let’s head out together."
And so, the two of them set off in the direction of the Spirit Flower, chatting idly as they walked.
According to the information from Feng Jue, the flower was hidden in a very secluded place. Specifically, it was at the bottom of a lake deep within Desperate Gorge, where there was a massive karst cave. The flower was located inside this cave.
The location was so well-hidden that an ordinary person would never find it without specific information.
The lake was quite far from Su Xing’s current position—at least a dozen kilometers away. Combined with the steep terrain all throughout Desperate Gorge, it would be nearly impossible for an ordinary Extraordinary Being to reach it.
However, Su Xing and Feng Jue were far from ordinary Extraordinary Beings. Even Feng Jue, a mere Loose Cultivator, was a Tier Six and possessed various impressive martial arts, to say nothing of how much more powerful Su Xing was in comparison.
Therefore, while it would take them some time to get there, it wasn’t an astronomical amount. Traveling at full speed, they arrived in less than half an hour. And that was with Su Xing slowing down to match Feng Jue’s pace. If Su Xing had been alone, he probably would have made it in under ten minutes.
But as fast as Su Xing and Feng Jue were, they weren’t the first to arrive. Besides the two of them, two other people were already there.
However, they didn’t seem to be together.
One of them was holding the other by the scruff of his neck like a baby chick. The man being held was so limp, his neck bent at an unnatural angle, that he looked dead. If it weren’t for the faint rise and fall of his chest, Su Xing would have thought there was no way he could still be alive with such injuries.
’He looks a little familiar.’
Su Xing thought to himself. He seemed to have seen the man being held somewhere before, but they had never interacted, so he didn’t recognize him right away.
Feng Jue, on the other hand, perhaps because he was a Loose Cultivator and knew more about such matters, immediately called out the man’s identity.
"That’s the Jue Dao Sect Leader."
’The Jue Dao Sect Leader?’ Su Xing thought. With Feng Jue’s reminder, he instantly recalled the man’s identity. He and this Jue Dao Sect Leader had crossed paths once outside Desperate Gorge.
’Tier Eight...’
The moment Su Xing saw the other man, he sensed his realm. He just couldn’t tell which revolution of Tier Eight the man was. Although Su Xing had met several Tier Eights before, seeing one still couldn’t stop a trace of vigilance from rising in his heart.
The man just stood there, his muscles bulging like a mountain range, resembling an upright giant bear. He wore nothing but a primitive animal-skin loincloth. Just looking at him from a distance gave one an overwhelming sense of pressure, like a tidal wave crashing down.
’Something’s not right...’
Su Xing had seen Tier Eights before, but this was the first time he had ever seen one with such a powerful aura. His strength was likely anything but simple.
Just as Su Xing was pondering this, Feng Jue beside him exclaimed in awe, "To think that an expert like the Jue Dao Sect Leader would die such a miserable death on the spot!"
"Th-this...!"
His voice trembled. He seemed as though he had rarely seen a dead person, so scared he could barely speak.
"..."
Hearing this, Su Xing shifted his gaze back to the Jue Dao Sect Leader. The man was clearly emanating the aftereffects of some kind of power-bursting Secret Technique, his aura having once reached Tier Seven Peak.
He then looked back at the bear-like man. His aura was now completely withdrawn, and he stood there silently, looking like an exceptionally ordinary person.
