Superior Physician
Chapter 91: Sniveling
Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Sniveling
Dean Li Yao took the launch of the hospital’s employee health check benefit quite seriously, dispatching his secretary, He Yingjun, to maintain order on-site.
The center sent Zhou Mo to manage the registration list and also assigned a nurse to assist Yu Zhiming...
Yu Zhiming examined over ten people in a row and found that, as expected of medical professionals or former hospital employees, they were all in excellent shape.
Among the dozen or so people he’d examined, he found no new organ-related issues beyond their pre-existing conditions and the natural decline in organ function due to old age.
This allowed Yu Zhiming to work at a rapid pace, averaging just three to four minutes per person...
Perhaps it was the calm before the storm, but after examining over twenty people in a row without finding any new problems, Yu Zhiming finally made a major and serious discovery.
Liver cancer!
His findings weren’t just a bad feeling; he was certain it was liver cancer.
This indicated the person’s liver problem was already quite serious.
Of course, Yu Zhiming didn’t say "liver cancer" outright. Instead, he drew a simple diagram, handed it to the man, and urged him to get a detailed liver examination immediately.
Compared to the dozens of people before him, this strikingly different treatment was enough to tell the man everything he needed to know.
The fifty-six-year-old man’s legs gave out, and he couldn’t get up. His wife had to help him to his feet, his face ashen as he shuffled out of the examination room.
This scene made it clear to everyone waiting in line what had happened, and they began to murmur amongst themselves.
"Did he find... you know?"
"Definitely. Didn’t you see? He could barely walk. When he went in, he was walking strong."
"I know him. He was in logistics, managing and repairing equipment. He just retired last year."
"Only a year into retirement... his new life was just starting, and now this... *Sigh*. What terrible luck."
Others were more optimistic, pointing out that the cancers Dr. Yu discovered were usually in the earliest of early stages.
With today’s medical treatments, if he’s treated properly, his chances of living a full life are still very high.
The discovery of this serious case subtly added to the psychological pressure on everyone in line.
It also heightened their expectations of Yu Zhiming, making them feel that lining up early in the morning had been a wise decision.
Some even took out their phones and started calling friends and relatives...
At 12:05 PM, having examined a total of sixty-two people, Yu Zhiming tidied up, stretched his weary body, and prepared to go to lunch.
To his surprise, however, the line outside hadn’t shrunk; if anything, it seemed even longer than it had been that morning.
Yu Zhiming announced loudly, "I’m going to lunch and need to rest for a while. The afternoon session will begin at one o’clock."
Before the words were even out of his mouth, someone complained.
"An entire hour for lunch and a break?"
"Fifteen minutes should be more than enough. Can’t you see how many people are waiting?"
"Exactly. A lot of us are getting on in years."
"Young people these days can’t handle any hardship. Back when I was working in the outpatient clinic, I didn’t even have time for a sip of water, let alone lunch."
These comments made Yu Zhiming’s expression darken.
’Damn hypocrites.’
’When you were doctors, you complained about unreasonable patients who didn’t appreciate how hard your job was.’
’Now that you’re on the other side, you’re accusing me of being selfish and not caring about patients.’
’It really just depends on which side of the table you’re sitting on.’
Yu Zhiming suppressed his annoyance and explained patiently, "Seniors, these examinations are mentally and physically draining. I must eat a proper meal and rest for a while at noon to recover."
"Surely you don’t want me making mistakes this afternoon due to exhaustion, do you?"
Just then, a sarcastic voice piped up.
"Just tapping and pressing everyone for a couple of minutes is that draining?"
The comment came from a woman in her fifties near the front of the line, slender and wearing heavy makeup.
Getting worked up and ignoring the warning glances from others, she continued, "You take five or six minutes to give a pretty girl a breast exam! But you rush through ours so carelessly and then complain that it’s draining?"
"What a joke!"
Yu Zhiming was already simmering with anger over the molestation accusation and the protest that morning. Now, he was being hit with more sarcasm and ridicule.
He snapped.
Yu Zhiming pointed at the woman and issued a cold threat to He Yingjun. "I don’t want to see her again. Otherwise, I’m done doing these examinations."
He then turned to the rest of the line and said coldly, "If you don’t want to wait or have a problem with me, feel free to leave."
"No one is begging you to be here."
With that, Yu Zhiming turned and strode away without waiting for a response...
As soon as Yu Zhiming left, the heavily made-up woman erupted.
"What does he think he’s doing?"
"This is a hospital benefit! What right does he have..."
"Shut your mouth!"
A white-haired elderly man a few spots behind her in line angrily cut her off.
"Are you not aware of the situation Dr. Yu is in?"
"I’m surprised he’s even here today doing these exams for us, and you have to go and provoke him deliberately."
"Have you lost your mind?"
"I don’t care if you want to ruin things for yourself, but don’t drag the rest of us down. Get lost."
The woman opened her mouth to argue, but she suddenly realized that everyone around her had not only stepped away from her but was also glaring with a mixture of disgust and anger.
She instantly understood that she had angered the entire crowd.
If Yu Zhiming decided to just give up and really quit, all of their fury would be directed at her.
The woman was filled with regret, but she was still unwilling to just give up and leave.
He Yingjun walked over.
"Sister Bai, Dr. Yu is in a bad mood today. He probably just said that in a fit of anger."
"These check-ups will be going on for several months, so there’s no need to rush it today. Why don’t you come back in a little while..."
At 1:00 PM, Yu Zhiming appeared on time in the second-floor examination room. The woman with the heavy makeup was nowhere to be seen.
The health examinations continued...
He worked straight through until seven in the evening, stopping only when he felt he could no longer continue.
Throughout the afternoon, he had examined another sixty-seven people and found one suspected case of stomach cancer.
When he finally decided to end his work for the day, there were still ten to twenty people queuing outside.
Perhaps having learned their lesson from the morning’s fiasco, no one made a peep as Yu Zhiming left...
When he returned to the main office, he was surprised to find his Fourth Sister, Yu Xiangwan, and Gu Qingning waiting for him.
And... his Eldest Sister.
"Eldest Sister! What are you doing here?" Yu Zhiming’s face lit up with pure joy.
Yu Zhaoxia walked up to him, studying his face with concern. "With something this serious going on, how could I possibly stay at home?"
She raised her hand and stroked his head.
"Fifth Brother, you’ve been wronged."
"I’m fine, Eldest Sister!"
The moment the words left his mouth, Yu Zhiming’s smiling face crumbled. His nose twitched and his lips trembled.
In the next instant, the rims of his eyes turned red.
And then, tears began to stream uncontrollably down his face.
Yu Zhiming was actually crying.
Yu Zhiming himself felt it was embarrassing to be crying like this, so, like an ostrich, he buried his head in his eldest sister’s shoulder.
He looked just like a little boy who, after being terribly wronged, finally sees his parents and buries his head in their arms to sob his heart out.
It was just that Yu Zhiming was so much taller, making the way he hugged the petite Yu Zhaoxia look slightly awkward.
This scene left Gu Qingning, as well as Zhou Mo who had returned with him, in stunned disbelief.
Both of them turned to stare wide-eyed at Yu Xiangwan.
Yu Xiangwan explained awkwardly, "Our eldest sister raised him from a young age."
"He acts more like her son than her younger brother..."
Just then, Qi Yue entered from the adjacent director’s office. Seeing the tall Yu Zhiming hunched over the relatively petite Yu Zhaoxia’s shoulder, he also froze for a moment.
"Um, Zhiming, it’s just as we expected..."
"Just a moment ago, Liu Xuan posted her full breast examination report online. The exam was conducted at Binhai Jiao Da Affiliated Hospital."
"Her attending physician was Dr. Wang Yaxian, a renowned GYN specialist at Jiaoda Affiliated Hospital who specializes in breast cancer treatment."
"The diagnosis: benign breast hyperplasia..."
