Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Returning Fully Loaded

Yu Zhiming, Wu Yuanhang, Qiu Wan, and Gu Qingran had a simple buffet meal at the Youyou Grand Hotel.

It was one hundred sixty-eight yuan per person.

Wu Yuanhang eagerly paid the bill.

They could see that Yu Zhiming was truly exhausted, so they took their leave right after the meal...

At nearly ten o’clock that night, Yu Zhiming, who had regained some of his energy, was in his room when Yu Xiangwan and Fu Xiaoxue returned, laden with bags of all sizes.

"Whew, I’m dead tired from running around all day."

Yu Zhiming looked at his sister. With her spirited energy and glowing complexion, he really couldn’t see how she was tired at all.

"Sis, did you get everything?"

Yu Xiangwan hummed smugly and began to show off her purchases one by one.

"Gold bracelets for Mom, First Sister, Second Sister, and Third Sister. Mom’s is the heaviest and most expensive, over six thousand yuan."

She added with another hum, "First Sister’s is the second most expensive, over five thousand. I know you two are the closest."

"Second Sister’s and Third Sister’s are the same, just under four thousand."

"Fourth Sister, what about you?"

Yu Zhiming asked, only then noticing a glittering gold pendant hanging around his sister’s neck.

Yu Xiangwan touched the gold chain and pendant on her neck, grinning. "I didn’t want a bracelet, so I picked this gold chain instead."

"It wasn’t expensive, just a little over four thousand!"

Standing behind her, Fu Xiaoxue splayed her five fingers and frantically waved at Yu Zhiming, trying to signal something.

Yu Zhiming pretended not to see. Then, Yu Xiangwan took out an exquisite-looking, much larger, flat box.

"This is a silk outfit for Dad. It’s silky smooth and cool to wear in the summer."

"It was over two thousand."

"Do you want to take a look?"

Yu Zhiming shook his head. "Dad will definitely love whatever clothes you pick out. I don’t need to see them."

For the past few years, his sisters had bought all of his clothes, shoes, and socks; he had hardly ever bought any for himself.

Yu Xiangwan was the one who bought him the most.

Of course, under normal circumstances, he was expected to reimburse her for the clothes she bought him.

"I didn’t buy gifts for Second Brother-in-law and Third Brother-in-law. It’ll be enough if you just give them each a bottle of Maotai or Wuliangye."

"As for the little ones, I bought each of them a pair of sneakers."

"A major international brand, mind you. Over seven hundred yuan a pair. They’ll definitely love them."

Fu Xiaoxue couldn’t help but interject, "We found a brand store that was having a buy-one-get-one-free sale."

Yu Zhiming let out an "Oh," noticing that more than half of the bags still hadn’t been opened and presented.

"Sis, what about those other bags?"

Yu Xiangwan chuckled. "We were originally planning to stay for three or four days, but now our stay has suddenly been extended to ten days, two weeks, or maybe even longer."

"As girls, we need to buy a change of clothes, underwear, and some makeup, don’t you think?"

"Besides, Xiaoxue has an interview to attend. She needs to get a somewhat formal outfit and shoes for that, right?"

Yu Zhiming rolled his eyes. ’You could have just had family mail you a change of clothes,’ he thought.

’They’re just taking advantage of the situation to go on a shopping spree.’

’But what could he do? She was his own sister, and the other was his own niece.’

Yu Zhiming said sullenly, "Sis, with all this stuff you bought, the money I gave you definitely wasn’t enough, was it?"

Yu Xiangwan grinned. "The twenty thousand you gave me last night and this morning, plus the ten thousand from before... it’s all gone."

"And I put nearly another ten thousand on my credit accounts."

"Fifth Brother, so... about that money?"

Yu Zhiming gritted his teeth. "Sis, I’ll transfer you another thirty thousand in a bit."

"After I send it, I’ll have less than twenty thousand left for myself."

He added a reminder, "Sis, you need to be a bit more frugal."

"At the rate you’re going, even that one million won’t last you very long."

Yu Xiangwan said, her voice lacking confidence, "I know, I know!"

She raised her right hand. "Today, I admit I got a little carried away. Once I start shopping, I can’t seem to control myself."

"Fifth Brother, I’m issuing a self-criticism! A profound self-criticism!"

Seeing that her little brother didn’t seem genuinely angry, Yu Xiangwan continued, "Tomorrow, we’ll all check out of the hotel together."

"After we see you off, Xiaoxue and I will find a budget chain hotel to stay at."

Fu Xiaoxue chimed in again, "Uncle, Sister Wenzhu also invited us to stay with her for a while."

Yu Xiangwan picked up the conversation. "I politely declined."

"Sister Wenzhu has already been running around with us for the past two days; we can’t keep bothering her."

She added, "Plus, she’s a neat freak. It would be really inconvenient to live with her."

Yu Zhiming nodded, then instructed, "When you’re looking for a hotel, don’t just think about saving money. Pay attention to safety and cleanliness."

"You should spend what you need to. I estimate that one million yuan settling-in fee will be in my account in ten to fifteen days at most..."

After that, the three of them began to pack Yu Zhiming’s luggage for his high-speed rail trip home the next day.

Since Yu Zhiming would be coming back, he didn’t need to pack things like his changes of clothes, pillow, or bedsheets.

He just needed to bring the gifts home.

Even so, all the items still filled a large suitcase and a backpack.

And that was after they had thrown away all the non-essential packaging...

The next morning, the three of them woke up early.

They first packed up their things in the room, then went for the buffet breakfast, and finally, checked out of the hotel without a hitch.

Afterward, Yu Xiangwan drove the car Qi Yue had lent them, taking Yu Zhiming, Fu Xiaoxue, and all their belongings straight to the Binhai High-speed Railway Station...

Yu Zhiming’s train was scheduled for a little after nine in the morning.

He had a smooth journey and arrived at the high-speed rail station closest to Liyang County at nearly one in the afternoon.

Fortunately, it was a Sunday, so his second brother-in-law, Qi Bin, who was home from work, drove to pick him up.

After returning to his home in Yushui Bay, Yu Zhiming headed straight for the bedroom, flopped onto the bed, and lay there motionless...

At seven in the evening, Yu Zhiming was jolted awake by his alarm.

He had slept for over five hours straight. And though he could have slept longer, he felt much more refreshed.

At the very least, his feet no longer felt like he was walking on cotton.

Stepping out of his room, Yu Zhiming was surprised to find that his second sister’s family and his third sister’s family were both there.

"Second Sister, Third Sister, go ahead and start dinner. I have to step out for a bit, I’ll be back in about an hour."

"When I get back, I’ll hand out the gifts."

After giving a few instructions, Yu Zhiming quickly washed his face.

Feeling mostly recovered, he grabbed the items Wu Yuanhang had asked him to bring along, as well as his own gift—two bottles of Wuliangye and two boxes of shark fin—and, borrowing his Fourth Sister’s car, hurried over to Dean Wu’s house.

Dean Wu and his wife were both home.

The two parties conducted a frank and brief exchange in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.

After presenting his gifts, Yu Zhiming first briefly reported to Dean Wu on the successful outcome of his trip to Binhai.

Then, he sincerely thanked Dean Wu for his consistent guidance and support over the past few years.

Dean Wu spoke highly of Yu Zhiming’s achievements and contributions to the county hospital and expressed his hopes and blessings for Yu Zhiming’s future...

As Yu Zhiming left Dean Wu’s house, he felt completely at ease, as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

He knew he could now go through the official procedures to resign from the county hospital.

Completely organizing his case files and other documents, taking care of his current patients, and properly handing over his duties—a month should be just enough time.

With that worry off his mind, Yu Zhiming suddenly felt his stomach rumbling. He was starving.

It made him eager to get home, to eat a delicious dinner cooked by his family and share the story of his success in Binhai...
