Superior Physician
Chapter 161: A Top Expert
Chapter 161 -160: A Top Expert
In the blink of an eye, it was Sunday. Yu Xiangwan had gone out with Zhou Mo at her invitation, and Gu Qingning had also vanished after breakfast.
Yu Zhiming had been pleasantly thinking he would have a quiet day to himself.
He never expected an even more boisterous little rascal to show up.
“Uncle, it’s been a week. Did you miss me?”
Yu Zhiming looked at Fu Xiaoxue, who was clinging to his arm and shaking it nonstop, and answered truthfully, “Nope!”
He added with a look of mock disgust, “Xiaoxue, you’re a grown-up now. Why are you still acting all cute and clingy like a six or seven-year-old?”
Fu Xiaoxue giggled. “In front of you, Uncle, I’ll always be a little kid.”
“Uncle! Uncle! My securities account! I’ve only been officially trading for four days, and my account has already made over thirteen hundred.”
“Aren’t I amazing?”
Faced with Fu Xiaoxue’s expression that was practically begging for praise, Yu Zhiming didn’t indulge her, saying calmly, “It’s just beginner’s luck.”
“Besides, I’ve heard that as long as you haven’t completely cashed out, profits in the stock market aren’t real profits.”
Yu Zhiming sat down on the living room sofa and asked, “Why aren’t you out with your classmates?”
Fu Xiaoxue sat down next to Yu Zhiming and pouted. “We just don’t click.”
“What happened?” Yu Zhiming asked with concern.
Fu Xiaoxue said, her voice laced with frustration, “I went out with a few classmates yesterday.”
“Watching them buy this and that, eating and drinking… I just felt like we’re not in the same social class.”
Yu Zhiming was beginning to understand.
Most of Xiaoxue’s classmates’ parents were senior professionals in the finance industry, so their families were undoubtedly quite wealthy.
“Xiaoxue, the family you’re born into…”
Fu Xiaoxue interrupted him with another giggle. “Uncle, you don’t have to console me. I’m fine with it.”
“It’s their business if their families are rich. I have food to eat and clothes to wear, parents who dote on me and love me, an uncle, and a brother. I’m already very happy.”
“Besides, they only have money now, and it’s their parents’ money. Ten years from now, who’s to say who will have more?”
Yu Zhiming reached out and patted the little rascal’s head.
“That’s my Xiaoxue.”
“I’m sure that in ten years, you’ll be one of the most outstanding people in your class.”
Fu Xiaoxue shook her head, looking smug. “Uncle, I think so too.”
She added with a mischievous chuckle, “Uncle, I already talked to my aunt last night. Isn’t she starting a short-term rental business?”
“I’m going to come work for her on weekends and holidays to earn some pocket money for snacks…”
After chatting idly for a while, Fu Xiaoxue grabbed Yu Zhiming’s arm again and started to whine playfully.
“Uncle, Uncle, I want to eat durian.”
Yu Zhiming snorted softly. “I’ll buy you a big one when you’re heading back to school. You can take it back with you.”
Fu Xiaoxue started shaking his arm again, her voice pleading. “But I want to eat it now.”
“Uncle, I really, really want some.”
Faced with the antics of the niece he had spoiled since she was little, Yu Zhiming surrendered without any resistance.
He had no choice but to change into his outdoor clothes and go downstairs with a skipping and bouncing Xiaoxue.
Seeing the electric bike shed downstairs, Yu Zhiming suddenly remembered something.
“Xiaoxue, that bicycle I bought, do you need it at university? If you do, I can bring it over to you some other day.”
Fu Xiaoxue smiled. “The campus is pretty big, and sometimes my classes are far away, so a bike would be very useful.”
“Uncle, when I head back to school this evening, I’ll just ride it back. It’s not that far from the university anyway.”
The two of them arrived at the commercial street outside their residential complex and walked into the fourth fruit shop.
The three fruit shops they had passed also had durian, just not very many.
This fourth shop, however, had durians piled high—a good twenty or thirty of them, offering plenty of choices.
The uncle-niece duo walked into the fruit shop and began gently tapping on one durian after another.
Fu Xiaoxue also put on the air of an expert, mimicking Yu Zhiming by knocking here and patting there.
The shopkeeper, a man in his forties, walked over.
He gave them an enthusiastic recommendation. “These durians just came in this morning. I guarantee they’re sweet and fragrant.”
“Are you looking for a bigger one or a smaller one? I can help you pick one out.”
The shopkeeper added with a sincere expression, “I promise I’ll pick one for you that has thin skin and lots of flesh.”
“If the flesh-to-weight ratio is less than 30%, I’ll swap it for an even heavier one for you.”
The shopkeeper was purely trying to take advantage of someone who didn’t know better.
The average flesh-to-weight ratio for a durian is 40%. Only a few extremely underdeveloped ones fall below 30%.
He could just make a show of picking one, and basically any durian he chose would meet his “standard.”
Fu Xiaoxue said smugly, “Boss, my uncle is a grandmaster at picking durians. We’ll choose our own.”
The shopkeeper’s smile widened. He loved these kinds of overconfident customers the most.
“No problem, pick whichever you like.”
“But let’s be clear first. If you pick it yourself, you can’t refuse it, no matter how little flesh it has.”
While the shopkeeper and Xiaoxue were talking, Yu Zhiming had already tapped every single durian. He then pointed a finger at a rather ugly-looking one.
Fu Xiaoxue excitedly picked it up and shouted, “Boss, we’ll take this one…”
He placed it on the electronic scale: eleven-point-three jin.
“Let’s call it an even eleven jin. Do you want me to open it and take out the flesh?”
The shopkeeper generously rounded it down, then emphasized again, “Let me repeat, you two picked this one. Unless it’s spoiled, once it’s open, there are no returns or exchanges.”
Yu Zhiming nodded at the shopkeeper, only then noticing that the man’s face was a little pale, with beads of sweat on his forehead.
“Not feeling well?”
The shopkeeper forced a smile and explained, “Kidney stones. I’m undergoing treatment to pass them.”
He forcefully broke open the durian, took out a few transparent plastic containers, put on a pair of disposable gloves, and began to extract the flesh.
After just a short while, the shopkeeper was secretly amazed.
He had already filled three containers with durian flesh, and there was still a good chunk of the durian left to open…
“I really misjudged. You truly are a grandmaster at picking durians. I’m impressed, I’m impressed.”
The shopkeeper offered the compliment, then swiftly placed the six containers full of flesh onto the electronic scale.
“Five and a half jin! A flesh-to-weight ratio of almost 50%! Wow, a ratio this high is really rare, very rare indeed.”
The shopkeeper wore an exaggeratedly surprised expression.
Fu Xiaoxue gloated again, “See, Boss? I wasn’t lying, was I? My uncle is amazing at picking durians and watermelons.”
The shopkeeper seized the opportunity, asking, “Would you like to pick out a watermelon, then?”
“My watermelons here are also very sweet.”
Yu Zhiming just smiled and shook his head. He paid for the durian with his phone and was about to turn and leave.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw the shopkeeper’s brow furrow as his right hand clutched his lower abdomen.
‘That’s not where you’d feel kidney pain!’
Driven by professional habit and sensitivity, Yu Zhiming turned back around and, in a rare move, spoke up. “I’m a doctor. It looks to me like you’re in severe abdominal pain.”
“Would you like me to take a look?”
The shopkeeper’s abdomen was indeed hurting badly. In his desperation, he was willing to grasp at any straw, so he immediately accepted Yu Zhiming’s offer and sat down on the recliner by the door for an examination.
Yu Zhiming gave his abdomen a few seemingly random taps, and his expression turned serious.
“Boss, your abdominal pain isn’t from kidney stones. It’s caused by an abdominal aortic dissection.”
“This aortic dissection…”
Yu Zhiming saw the shopkeeper’s face turn deathly pale in an instant and knew the man understood a thing or two about the dangers of an aortic dissection.
He stopped explaining and said directly, “Your situation is very dangerous. I strongly advise you to go to Huashan Hospital for treatment immediately.”
Next, the shopkeeper had a quick word with the owner of the neighboring shop, didn’t even bother to tidy up his fruit stand, hailed a taxi, and vanished…
Fu Xiaoxue, munching on a piece of durian, chuckled mischievously. “Uncle, I bet the next time you come to this shop to buy fruit, you won’t have to pay.”
Yu Zhiming flicked her on the forehead. “It’s eleven o’clock now. Since we’re out, let’s have lunch before we head back.”
Fu Xiaoxue spoke up, “Uncle, shouldn’t there still be some of Mom’s dumplings at home?”
“I’m craving Mom’s dumplings.”
“Uncle, let’s go back and eat. I’ll cook them…”
In the end, Yu Zhiming didn’t get to eat the dumplings his niece cooked for lunch.
The hospital’s outpatient and emergency department called with an urgent case…
