Superior Physician
Chapter 110 - 109: I Am His Girlfriend
Chapter 110: Chapter 109: I Am His Girlfriend
It was already past eleven at night when Yu Zhiming returned to his apartment in the Zijin Garden District.
He saw his fourth sister waiting up for him, reading a book.
That girl, Gu Qingning, was gone!
What’s more, all her things were gone, making the living room suddenly seem much more spacious and tidy.
"Sis, if I get back late in the future, you should just go to bed. You don’t have to wait up for me."
Yu Xiangwan let out a small yawn.
"How am I supposed to rest easy unless I’m sure you aren’t coming back for the night?"
She noticed Yu Zhiming hesitating as if he wanted to say something, and she knew he wanted to ask about Gu Qingning.
Yu Xiangwan was about to speak, but she stopped herself.
’I’m just not going to say anything. Let’s see how anxious you get.’
"Fifth Brother, are you tired? Hungry? Want some water? Or should I make you something to eat?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head. "Sis, don’t worry about it. Go get some rest. I’ll just wash up and head to bed."
After he washed up and changed into clean pajamas, he came out of the bathroom to see his fourth sister lounging on the Murphy bed, reading by the light of a table lamp.
Yu Zhiming walked over and sat on the Murphy bed.
"Sis, it’s rare to see you reading so intently! What is it... Huh? ’Corporate Financial Management’?"
Yu Xiangwan tossed the book onto the head of the bed and explained, "Xiaobo and the others have already registered the company. The name is Binhai Bojun Design and Decoration Co., Ltd."
"As their aunt, I’m temporarily helping them manage finances, as well as administrative, logistical, and other miscellaneous things."
Yu Zhiming hummed in acknowledgment as his fourth sister continued, "Xiaobo has already put together a seven-person renovation team."
"They’re all connections our eldest brother-in-law built up over many years. He says they’re trustworthy and their workmanship is excellent."
"Xiaobo gave each of them a contract with a guaranteed annual salary of sixty thousand. He promised that even if they don’t work a single day all year, they’ll still get a base salary of five thousand a month."
Yu Zhiming said with admiration, "The kid’s got some guts. He might actually pull this off."
"So, how long will that job he’s working on take?"
Yu Xiangwan replied, "Xiaobo said it’s a three-month project."
Yu Zhiming said slowly, "With a two or three-month buffer, it should be relatively easy to find the next job."
After a moment’s pause, he asked casually, "So, that girl took her things. Does that mean she’s not coming back?"
Yu Xiangwan giggled. "What’s this? Annoyed when she’s around, but you miss her after just one day away?"
Yu Zhiming scoffed. "Me? Miss her?"
"What a joke!"
He then tried to explain, "I’m merely showing concern out of a doctor’s sense of duty, that’s all."
"Wasn’t she under observation at Ning’an Hospital for a day? Were there any new findings?"
"Adult intussusception is usually due to secondary causes. Only about ten percent of cases are caused by disordered intestinal peristalsis."
"Oh, Fifth Brother, you must have heard the saying: if you’re explaining, you’re hiding something. If you miss her, just admit it. What is there to hide from me?"
Yu Xiangwan shot him a disdainful look before saying, "They didn’t find anything wrong with Qingning. It seems her intussusception was just one of those one-in-ten long shots."
"She’s been pampered since she was a child. When her family found out she wasn’t feeling well, they sent someone to take care of her, so she went home."
Yu Zhiming let out a long "Ohhh" and stood up. "Sis, I’m heading back to my room. You should get to bed early too..."
Back in his bedroom, he lay down and, as usual, glanced at his phone, only to find an email from Teacher Qi.
Yu Zhiming opened it to find three résumés for his work assistant position.
He opened the first résumé on his phone, scanned it quickly, and couldn’t help but shake his head.
It wasn’t that the résumé was poorly written; on the contrary, the applicant’s qualifications were a little too high.
He had a master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and had just graduated from Binhai Medical College this summer.
Yu Zhiming had already been notified by the hospital that they had officially approved a work assistant position for him.
However, it wasn’t a permanent staff position, just a contract role with a monthly salary of only five to six thousand.
For a master’s graduate from a prestigious university to work as his assistant was truly a waste of talent.
Yu Zhiming rejected this applicant in his mind and opened the second résumé.
This one was from a woman, and the casual photo she’d attached certainly caught Yu Zhiming’s eye.
The woman in the photo looked to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, dressed in an "office lady" style with glasses. She had a very pronounced S-shaped figure and was quite easy on the eyes.
Yu Zhiming admired the photo for a moment before checking the woman’s details.
Thirty years old, a master’s in pharmacology from a prestigious university, currently working in drug R&D at a pharmaceutical company.
After reading her detailed information, Yu Zhiming mentally passed on her as well.
Another case of being overqualified—a total waste of talent.
"Master’s graduates from prestigious universities are applying for a lowly work assistant position? Has the job market really gotten this cutthroat?"
Yu Zhiming muttered and clicked on the final résumé.
Male, twenty-five years old, bachelor’s degree in clinical medicine, graduate of Taishan Medical University.
Yu Zhiming was quite satisfied with this information.
Taishan Medical University was on about the same level as his own alma mater, Jishui Medical College.
Yu Zhiming read on and discovered that after graduating, this applicant had been working in sales for a medical device distribution company.
Yu Zhiming made a point of checking and found that the company this guy worked for had no connection to Yaoming Pharmaceutical.
This pleased him even more.
After reviewing the three résumés, Yu Zhiming had a feeling.
’Teacher Qi must have deliberately included two unsuitable résumés just to recommend this last guy to me...’
The next morning, Yu Zhiming rode a shared bike to Huashan Hospital.
He hadn’t actually ridden the bicycle he’d bought more than a few times.
Most of the time, he would ride to the hospital in the morning, but something unexpected would come up in the evening, making it inconvenient for him to ride back.
Which meant he could only ride a shared bike the next morning.
Yu Zhiming was walking briskly toward the small building of the Qi Yue Medical Research Center when he was suddenly blocked by two young women who seemed to appear out of nowhere, holding hands to bar his way.
Seeing the two women smiling and winking suggestively at him, Yu Zhiming turned to his right to look...
Bathed in the radiant morning sunlight, a wheelchair was being slowly pushed forward by a girl in a high ponytail.
In the wheelchair sat a girl with a blushing face, too shy to look up.
Her neck was wrapped in gauze, her left leg was in a cast, and she was clutching a large bouquet of roses.
Yu Zhiming recognized the girl in the wheelchair: it was Li Han, whom he had saved in the accident the evening before last.
Seeing the scene before him...
Yu Zhiming understood instantly, but accepting her feelings was absolutely out of the question.
’Should I turn and run into the building to hide?’
’But wouldn’t that be rude? Wouldn’t it hurt her feelings?’
’After all, she just survived a major, near-fatal accident. She might still be in a fragile emotional state.’
While Yu Zhiming hesitated, struggling with what to do, the wheelchair arrived in front of him.
At the crucial moment, Li Han was no longer timid. She looked up at Yu Zhiming, her eyes shimmering.
"Dr. Yu, you said that surviving a great disaster means good fortune will follow, and that I would one day live happily with a husband who adores me and our mischievous, adorable children."
"Dr. Yu, I don’t have a boyfriend yet."
"Um, yes... for the past two days, my mind has been filled with your words and the sight of you!"
Li Han summoned her courage once more and held up the bouquet of roses.
"Dr. Yu, will you be my boyfriend?"
’Well...’
’To be honest, with her carefully applied makeup, Li Han is quite attractive—definitely pretty.’
But Yu Zhiming had no intention of agreeing.
Just as Yu Zhiming was frantically trying to find the right words to refuse without hurting her, someone took hold of his left arm.
At the same time, a pleasant, crisp voice spoke up.
"Miss, you’re a step too late. Dr. Yu already has a girlfriend, and that’s me."
Li Han sized up the woman holding Yu Zhiming’s arm and couldn’t help but feel inadequate in comparison.
She then noticed that Yu Zhiming didn’t resist the woman’s intimate gesture, and her eyes dimmed.
Still unwilling to give up, Li Han asked, "I asked around. Everyone said Dr. Yu just started at Huashan Hospital and doesn’t have a girlfriend."
Zhou Mo moved a little closer to Yu Zhiming. "Dr. Yu and I work in the same office. We’re already a couple; we just haven’t made it public yet."
"With a guy as outstanding as Dr. Yu, you have to make your move fast. Don’t you agree?"
Li Han forced a smile. "That’s true. With someone as outstanding as Dr. Yu, you really do have to act fast."
She looked over Yu Zhiming and Zhou Mo again.
"You two are a great match."
Li Han handed the flowers to Zhou Mo.
"I wish you all the best!"
"You have to treasure him. Dr. Yu... he’s a really good, outstanding person..."
With the bouquet of roses in one arm and the other linked with Yu Zhiming’s, Zhou Mo watched as a heartbroken Li Han left, surrounded by her friends.
"Dr. Yu, I stepped up and saved you from that situation, disregarding my own reputation. How are you going to thank me?"
Yu Zhiming was taken aback for a moment, then retorted, "I helped you out of a jam last time, too. Doesn’t that make us even?"
