Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2755 - 2817: A Kiss
Li Minjia believed everything Li Yifei said, every single word of it. She was sure that it wasn’t because of her family, her own conditions, and so on, that he kept turning her down. With that confirmed, it felt like a burden had suddenly been lifted off her shoulders. In society, especially in a university environment, no matter how strong-willed Li Minjia was, when she saw those rich girls with thousands or even tens of thousands in pocket money every month—buying nice clothes, buying expensive cosmetics, eating whatever they wanted, drinking whatever they liked—she couldn’t help feeling a bit envious. But she knew her own family situation, so sometimes that envy would sink into inferiority. Even if the future could change things, that was still the future.
This afternoon, when she was overthinking things, she’d started wondering if it was her own problem, plus her family background, that made him so unwilling.
People, once they get stuck in a mental dead end, it’s hard to get out. She’d spent the whole afternoon convinced that Li Yifei was rejecting her because of that. Now that she finally heard him say it openly, she felt a lot better, and naturally she was happy.
"Brother Fei, anyway, I still have to thank you. I’ll remember everything you said today. You’re also the best person I’ve ever met in my life. I’ll study hard, and after I graduate, I’ll work hard!"
"I believe you. The Heavenly Path rewards diligence. Even if hard work doesn’t pay off right away, it will eventually lead to a good outcome!"
"Mm, mm." Once Li Minjia figured this out, everything felt clear.
"Alright, get out of the car. As for your mom’s health... one treatment might not cure her, but don’t worry. After today’s treatment, she should be fine for at least half a year. That’s enough time for us to find another chance to treat her again." Li Yifei said as he pulled open the car door.
"The fact that it can be treated at all is already a miracle!"
"Let’s go upstairs. Oh, have you two eaten dinner yet?" Li Yifei asked.
"We did. I made lean meat congee for my mom. She finished a whole bowl, and even ate some dry food." Li Minjia said cheerfully.
"Her body will slowly improve. Fortunately it’s only kidney disease—if it were something else, she might not have made it to now."
Following behind Li Yifei, Li Minjia secretly stuck out her tongue, thinking this Brother Fei was especially handsome, especially good, especially manly. It was just that he refused to accept her. Sigh, then let him not accept her. If they have fate in the future, they’ll naturally meet again.
It would never occur to Li Minjia even in her dreams that this kind Brother Fei, who had rushed back and forth twice today because of her mom and her, would turn out to be the richest man in Ning Province, and even that "old soldier" on Twitter. Of course, she didn’t have Twitter and usually had no time to follow that sort of thing, but she really did know of this "old soldier" guy. Whether it was in the dorm, among classmates in her major, or in some corner of the library, at some table in the cafeteria, you’d inevitably hear people talking about this old soldier on Twitter and the things he’d done. It was just that Li Minjia didn’t use it, so she’d never seen Li Yifei’s photos, only heard about his deeds. Otherwise she definitely would have recognized him.
"Brother Fei, about that money..."
"Didn’t I say, you hold onto it first. Don’t rush to take on part-time jobs to make money these next few years. If you really can’t sit still, you can find something relatively easy. Wait until you’re working and making big money, then pay it back whenever you feel like it. I’m not in a hurry, and you shouldn’t be either, especially since we even wrote an IOU. Oh, and let’s not bring this up again from now on. I mean it!" Li Yifei said seriously.
Li Minjia made a scared little face. "Okay, okay, I promise."
"Good. Open the door, your mom’s been waiting a long time too."
"Alright!" Li Minjia walked ahead two steps, took out the key and opened the door. Inside the house, having heard that Li Yifei was coming, Li Minjia’s mother had gotten ready early and changed into a different outfit, since the clothes she wore during treatment earlier had gotten wet with urine—of course, she didn’t feel too embarrassed about it.
Li Yifei went in, changed into slippers, and glanced around. The room had undergone a drastic change since the afternoon. The furniture was still old, but everything had been tidied up very neatly, and clearly everything had been thoroughly wiped down. The air smelled faintly of cleaning detergent.
"You’ve been cleaning all afternoon?" Li Yifei asked casually.
Li Minjia’s mother said, "Jiajia did it all. I told her to take a break but she wouldn’t. She cleaned everywhere inside and out. Sigh, my health’s been bad these days, otherwise the house wouldn’t have gotten this dirty and messy."
"She’s a girl after all, has a knack for it. If it were me, give me two days and I still couldn’t clean it up this well." Li Yifei said.
"You’re someone who does big things; how could you be doing this kind of stuff!"
"Haha, I still do it occasionally at home. I mess around with the kids all the time!" Li Yifei said thick-skinned. With so many kids at home, which one did he really take care of? Even just holding them once in a while... hey, whatever. Li Yifei did have a lot on his plate, and when he was at home, he just wanted to spend the whole day with his wife and kids.
As soon as she heard "messing with the kids," a stiffness flashed across Li Minjia’s mother’s face. So he was married, and already had children. She’d originally thought this man was really good, and that he’d be a perfect match for her daughter. But since he was already married, she’d better not mention that again.
"Let’s get ready and start the treatment. The process might take a bit longer. Uh, can you bathe at home?"
"Yes, but we have to boil hot water!" Li Minjia said.
"Alright, get it boiling then. Once the treatment is finished, your mom will need a bath. Oh right, did you buy the things I asked you to?"
"Yes, yes, I bought them!"
"Good. Oh, look at my memory. This is the car key. Just get close and press this, and the door will open. There are a few bags of fruit on the back seat—bring them up. When you get back, find something to do and don’t come in to disturb us!" Li Yifei handed her the keys as he instructed.
"Fruit? No need, no need, I already bought fruit for my mom today!"
"That’s right, doctor, you’re doing too much for us, we really don’t know what to say."
Mother and daughter hastily declined, but Li Yifei waved his hand and said, "Go get it. Otherwise it’ll just sit in the car and no one will eat it, and it’ll go bad in a few days. When the body’s weak, eating more fruit to supplement vitamins is good!"
"Then... thank you, Brother Fei, I’ll go get it!"
"Mm, after you take it, just walk away, the car door will close on its own." Li Yifei said.
Li Minjia nodded and backed out of the bedroom.
Li Yifei started the treatment. After thinking for a bit, he moved the treatment location to the bathroom. It was a bit cramped, but it made it easier for her to relieve herself. The process was, of course, very filthy, but to save someone’s life, Li Yifei decided to endure it.
Time ticked by. Because this was the first treatment, even though Li Yifei had already thought through the principles, he still needed to actually practice them, so his pace wasn’t fast. It’s said that kidney cells are non-regenerative—you’re born with however many you have, and that’s it. Kidneys are extremely precious: once damaged, they don’t recover, unless you get a transplant. But that only applies to ordinary people. For someone like Li Yifei, with his current cultivation level, the repair ability of his True Qi was extremely strong, making it possible to repair the kidneys and stimulate new kidney cells to grow.
It might sound incredible, but the change was real. Three hours later, Li Yifei came out of the bathroom. He was still in decent shape, having used up about one-third of the True Qi in his body, which actually wasn’t much. This was physical damage that could be treated. People like Ye Yunzhu’s grandfather and Su Mengxin’s grandfather were suffering from aging, not damage, which was much harder to change—unless you could defy the heavens and rewrite fate, natural death from old age was unavoidable.
Waiting outside, Li Minjia hurriedly stood up, gazing at Li Yifei with hopeful eyes.
"It’s pretty much done. She should be fine for at least half a year. But she should still be more careful and not overwork herself. You two can manage that on your own. If I have time in the next few months, I’ll contact you, and we’ll arrange another treatment then!" Li Yifei gave her a figurative pill of reassurance. She immediately lit up with joy and looked at him. "Brother Fei, is she completely cured? She doesn’t have to go to the hospital anymore?"
"In theory she doesn’t need to, but it’s still best to go for regular check-ups, to see how things are progressing. Since the necrotic area is quite large, it’s hard to repair, and we still don’t know what caused it, so I can’t guarantee it won’t come back." Li Yifei said.
"That’s great, that’s great!" Overjoyed, Li Minjia leapt forward, throwing herself into his arms, both hands hugging him tightly. She was already tall and had a great figure, so when she jumped him like that, Li Yifei ended up with his arms full, her chest pressing against his, the feeling... was pretty damn nice.
"Let me hug you for a bit, I’m just so happy. I... I’ve never hugged a guy in my life before. Please... don’t take it the wrong way."
Take it the wrong way or not, you’ve already hugged me, haven’t you... Li Yifei thought to himself, patting her on the back. "Your mom’s fine now. From now on you can focus on your studies. Remember what I told you before—if you cherish yourself, other people will respect you all the more, and admire you too."
"I will, I definitely will." Li Minjia nodded hard, but her arms tightened even more, completely unconcerned that her two impressive mounds were squashing against his chest. With this size... this height and figure... at her age... Li Yifei couldn’t help feeling his heart stir. He cleared his throat and said, "Alright, go help your mom take a bath. And don’t let her lie on the floor anymore. After her bath, carry her back to the bedroom to rest. She’ll feel better after she sleeps."
"Ah!" Hearing that, Li Minjia quickly let go of him and was about to go take care of her mom. But she soon stopped, her big eyes shimmering as she looked at Li Yifei. She seemed to struggle with herself for a moment, then made up her mind. Moving quickly, she raised both hands to cup his face, leaned in, and pressed her soft lips onto his. There was an audible pop. Her tender little face instantly flushed red, and she spun around and ran off, dashing straight into the bathroom.
Li Yifei actually could have dodged, but he didn’t. Hearing movement from behind, he sighed. Some things were really hard to talk about... hard to talk about.
The taste of her lips lingered, soft and sweet, and she was right there, within reach, easy to have. But that was as far as it could go—he absolutely couldn’t play with fire any further! Li Yifei resolved firmly in his heart.
