Chapter 1481: Chapter 1471: Entrustment
"I am fine!" This was Mengmeng’s reply to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng guessed correctly; Mengmeng was indeed crying just moments before Jiang Cheng called. As he dialed the phone, she wiped away her tears. "There’s a misunderstanding; come back first!" Jiang Cheng said mildly. "Let’s break up!"
Silence, endless silence, there was no sound from either end of the call. Jiang Cheng held the phone to his ear, neither hanging up nor speaking.
After a long time, there was still endless silence on both ends, and finally, Jiang Cheng broke this awkward silence and said, "Well, if you want to clear your mind, go ahead. I’ll send someone to ensure your safety. Rest assured, as long as I’m around, no one will ever bully you in this life!"
Not waiting for Mengmeng to reply, Jiang Cheng spoke on his own, "Well... I’ll send you some money then, so you won’t worry about food and drink, consider it breakup compensation."
Jiang Cheng couldn’t figure out what to say or what he should do, so he could only offer compensation.
"Okay, good. I wish you and Xu Ying happiness!" Mengmeng calmly replied, unlike her usual self.
Jiang Cheng felt that letting go is also a kind of fate, knowing he didn’t love Mengmeng as long as she’s fine.
In the hospital room, Xu Ying’s complexion wasn’t as pale as Jiang Cheng had previously imagined. "How do you feel? It’s all my fault that you got hurt," Jiang Cheng said as he walked to Xu Ying’s bedside.
"It’s much better now. The doctor took care of it in the morning, cleaned the wound again, and re-bandaged it. The doctor said I could be discharged after a week of recuperation."
Xu Ying replied with a smile.
"That’s good. Take your recovery seriously, don’t move around, and let the wound heal quickly so you can be discharged," Jiang Cheng instructed with care. If Jiang Cheng could always look at me like this and take care of me so attentively, I would definitely be happy even if I spent a lifetime in the hospital!
"Mengmeng has left the district!" Jiang Cheng’s face was indifferent, different from Xu Ying’s excitement, as he said with some detachment.
Xu Ying held Jiang Cheng’s hand, placed it in her palm, and gently patted it, saying, "Jiang Cheng, don’t be sad, and don’t be upset. I know you’re disappointed that Mengmeng left, but there’s no feast in the world that doesn’t end."
Since she’s gone, let her go with no strings attached.
Jiang Cheng said nothing, only looked at Xu Ying, knowing that Xu Ying had also done a lot for him, so he stood silently before her. At this moment, Elder Xu happened to walk in, and Jiang Cheng took the opportunity to run out from the room, unknowingly arriving at the garden—the largest garden in the hospital, meant for patients to stroll and relax.
Jiang Cheng found the garden strangely familiar, and suddenly remembered that he had designed this garden during his last visit, investing fifty million without expecting any returns, thinking it was for the hospital’s construction and could be considered an act of kindness.
Jiang Cheng looked at the garden, the flowers competing with each other for beauty, yet he felt that such vibrant colors only highlighted the loneliness and darkness within him.
Mengmeng, you are my sister! I want to see who dares to bully Jiang Cheng’s sister! With me around, you’ll be perfectly safe!
Jiang Cheng muttered fiercely to himself.
A gust of wind blew by, and Jiang Cheng suddenly remembered he had promised Mengmeng to wire some money to her.
Mengmeng is alone outside the district; the thing she probably lacks the most is money! I must hurry and transfer the money, so she doesn’t suffer any hardship.
Jiang Cheng got up from the bench and headed to the bank. Upon arrival, he realized he didn’t have Mengmeng’s account number.
"Sir, you can’t make a transfer without an account number!" the bank staff kindly reminded.
Without much thought, Jiang Cheng took out his phone and called the office, saying, "Hello, this is Jiang Cheng! I would like to check the account number of an employee named Mengmeng in my Xunteng Company, I want to send her money!"
The other party, hearing Jiang Cheng’s name, didn’t bother whether it was compliant or not and quickly gave him Mengmeng’s account number.
"You must have heard the account number just now, transfer five billion into this account! Oh, make sure it’s in US Dollars!" Jiang Cheng told the bank staff blandly.
After finishing the transfer, Jiang Cheng walked out of the bank, feeling much lighter, as he finally did something for Mengmeng, giving him some escape from his feelings of guilt. Jiang Cheng was about to head back to the hospital when he noticed there was a store right next to the road selling Xu Ying’s favorite food, a fast-food chain owned by Shangfu Group.
"Linda, acquire Shengshi Group for me!" Jiang Cheng called his assistant Linda and said.
Linda paused and asked, "What’s wrong? Shengshi Group hasn’t been making any moves lately!"
"Just do as I said! Don’t ask too many questions!" Jiang Cheng instructed. Perhaps, in doing something for Mengmeng, acquiring her favorite food store to leave it for her could be considered compensation.
Jiang Cheng slowly walked to the hospital room door, seeing through the glass that Elder Xu was still inside talking with Xu Ying, so he didn’t enter and waited outside for a while.
"Grandpa, Mengmeng has left the district," this was Xu Ying’s voice, and Jiang Cheng heard it clearly.
"Oh, that’s good, it’s alright if she leaves," Elder Xu said, looking at Xu Ying with indulgence. "Dad, please give Mengmeng some money," Xu Ying blinked at her grandfather.
Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but be puzzled to hear that; why was Xu Ying so eager to have Elder Xu send Mengmeng money? Was it because she felt sorry for Mengmeng? Numerous questions popped into Jiang Cheng’s mind.
Jiang Cheng waited until there was no sound in the room before pushing the door and entering. Elder Xu saw Jiang Cheng entering and quickly asked him to sit down, and Jiang Cheng handed the food he bought to Xu Ying.
"Bought for you, it’s your favorite," Jiang Cheng casually handed the item to Xu Ying. Despite Xu Ying’s somewhat harsh methods, she at least saved him, and the Xu family’s help to him was quite significant.
Xu Ying, seeing Jiang Cheng bought her favorite food, was so happy she nearly jumped out of bed, but Elder Xu held her back, saying, "Calm down, your wound hasn’t completely healed yet."
Xu Ying smiled apologetically, her smile warm and gentle. Elder Xu slowly raised the back of the bed, letting Xu Ying lean against it.
Elder Xu, while taking care of Xu Ying, said to Jiang Cheng, "Xu Ying is more suitable than that young girl both emotionally and rationally."
Jiang Cheng looked at Elder Xu’s still strong back and helplessly lowered his head. Elder Xu suddenly turned his head to look at Jiang Cheng thoughtfully and sighed, saying, "That girl left; if your company needs people, feel free to adjust from the security team."
The meaning was very clear; Elder Xu was determined to match Jiang Cheng with Xu Ying, even if it meant trading the security team.
Xu Ying couldn’t eat by herself, so Elder Xu fed Xu Ying mouthful by mouthful very carefully, while Xu Ying didn’t eat seriously, instead kept watching Jiang Cheng, but Jiang Cheng was staring at the flowers on the table lost in thought.
"I’m leaving, have some matters to deal with. I’ll leave Ying’Er in your care for now." Elder Xu looked at Jiang Cheng, paused, and said. He also patted Jiang Cheng’s shoulder and left without turning back.
In these days, Xu Ying lay in bed every day, and with Elder Xu busy handling many affairs not coming often, Jiang Cheng stayed by Xu Ying’s side continuously, often emphasizing his obligation to Elder Xu’s trust.
Even with Elder Xu’s trust, Jiang Cheng responsibly took care of Xu Ying. Sometimes Xu Ying felt an illusion as if she and Jiang Cheng had already settled into a couple’s life, and this hospital room was their new home, filled with warmth and happiness.
