Chapter 1452: Chapter 1442: An Ordinary World
My... my... my parents divorced half a year ago!" Dong Ran said, then buried his head deeply, overwhelmed by emotions.
Jiang Cheng heard and immediately opened the system, clicking to query all information about Dong Ran from birth until now.
The system showed Dong Ran’s parents had been fighting since he was young, and finally divorced six months ago. Since then, Dong Ran began skipping school and submitting blank exam papers.
Seeing Jiang Cheng remain silent, Dong Ran couldn’t help but worry. Would big brother also dislike him? What should he do? Jiang Cheng caught sight of Dong Ran’s cautious expression, and felt a sharp pain in his heart, so he hugged Dong Ran.
"It’s okay, big brother is here now. Be good!" Jiang Cheng couldn’t help but comfort him.
Dong Ran was touched by Jiang Cheng’s sudden affection and surprisingly cried "Ming Ming..." in his embrace.
"Big brother, I don’t want to go home anymore. I can only rely on you now, you can’t abandon me!" Dong Ran shouted to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng tried to refuse a few times to no avail, feeling quite helpless, he had no choice but to take Dong Ran home after school.
Dong Ran was suddenly stunned by the past scenery, especially seeing the top-grade canopy bed in Jiang Cheng’s bedroom, he couldn’t help but exclaim "Ah!"
Could big brother be a hidden rich mogul? His house is too luxurious, way more upscale than my wealthy old neighbors!
"Big brother, that top-grade canopy bed costs millions of US Dollars, right?" Dong Ran couldn’t help but ask.
Jiang Cheng shrugged, casually saying "I don’t know. I just live here temporarily and don’t manage it much."
Upon hearing this, Dong Ran was completely subdued by Jiang Cheng’s wealth, even his gaze towards Jiang Cheng changed.
Other people’s temporary homes are a thousand times better than my own, isn’t that too unfair?
After dinner, Jiang Cheng invited Dong Ran to the sofa, planning to talk to him.
"Dong Ran, what do you like to learn?" Jiang Cheng lazily asked.
"Music!" Dong Ran replied firmly.
Jiang Cheng, hearing this, immediately sat up straight and seriously asked, "Do you truly like it?"
"Of course! Music is the one thing I feel I won’t lose, it’s accompanied me through lonely times!" Dong Ran said sincerely.
The tenderness in his eyes seemed to genuinely reflect the image of spending solitary nights with music as his companion. "Then I’ll send you to learn music!" Jiang Cheng considered for a while and said.
Dong Ran’s eyes suddenly sparkled with a hint of brightness, excitedly asking, "Really? Can I really study music?"
Jiang Cheng nodded and immediately called a music academy he was familiar with, arranging for Dong Ran to start the next day. This day, Jiang Cheng just finished class and was in his office grading students’ assignments when a phone call rang.
"Hello, Teacher Jiang, I’m Dong Ran’s father, Dong Army. He hasn’t called me or returned home for several days. Do you know his whereabouts?" asked the voice on the phone.
Jiang Cheng breathed a sigh of relief, finally awaiting this call, he responded, "I know. It’s inconvenient to speak over the phone, let’s meet. Please bring Dong Ran’s mother, thank you!"
"Okay, how about at the coffee shop in front of my school?" replied the person on the phone.
After hanging up, Jiang Cheng planned to change clothes and head out for the meeting. The afternoon was leisurely and warm, the coffee shop filled with the aroma of coffee beans.
"Hello, Teacher Jiang!" Dong Army extended his hand and shook hands with Jiang Cheng.
"You both are Dong Ran’s parents, right? I feel his current situation isn’t very good," Jiang Cheng said solemnly.
"What? Ranran’s condition isn’t good? What’s wrong, is he sick?" Dong Ran’s mother suddenly panicked.
Jiang Cheng smiled and replied, "Don’t be anxious, I’m referring to his mental state."
"What do you mean?" asked Dong Ran’s father.
Jiang Cheng gently sipped his freshly brewed coffee, slowly saying, "This should be a private matter, but since it’s interfering with the child’s growth, let me say this: Are you divorced?"
The man and woman sitting opposite paused for a moment, then both nodded.
Jiang Cheng continued, "Actually, Dong Ran suddenly became like this because he feels your divorce means you don’t care about him, he’s trying to attract your attention!"
Dong Ran’s parents, hearing Jiang Cheng’s words, couldn’t help but glance at each other, feeling extremely guilty towards their child.
"This child became like this because we didn’t consider thoroughly (forgot the king), didn’t consider his feelings!"
"Teacher Jiang, I know we’ve neglected the child’s thoughts a bit. May we visit him at school?" Dong Army asked, looking at Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng smiled and replied, "He said he likes music, so I sent him to the music academy."
"Thank you very much, thank you!" Dong Ran’s mother said excitedly. Finally, the three agreed that Dong Ran’s parents would visit Jiang Cheng’s house to see him tonight.
Night at the Jiang Family.
"Ranran, it’s our fault, come back home with us and we’ll slowly make it up to you, and explain it to you!" Dong Army persuaded Dong Ran.
"I accept your apology, but I don’t want to go back with you!" Dong Ran replied.
Dong Ran’s mother suddenly became anxious and asked loudly, "Why?" "Because being with Teacher Jiang makes me happy!" Dong Ran retorted. After much thought, Dong Ran decided to stay with big brother Jiang Cheng, feeling the warmth of home at Jiang Cheng’s place.
"Happy? You aren’t happy at home?" Dong Ran’s mother argued. Dong Ran pursed his lips and shouted, "Not happy means not happy!" "You! You ungrateful brat..." Dong Army raised his hand, appearing to strike Dong Ran.
Jiang Cheng saw Dong Army’s action and immediately raised his hand to hold Dong Army’s hand, secretly applying pressure.
Dong Army glared at Jiang Cheng, but helplessly, Jiang Cheng was too strong, he couldn’t escape Jiang Cheng’s grip.
"Dong Ran’s father, talk things over, a gentleman uses words, not hands! Dong Ran is still a child!" Jiang Cheng stared at Dong Army and slowly said.
For some reason, Dong Army felt a chill down his spine looking at Jiang Cheng’s gaze.
"Alright, today for Teacher Jiang’s sake, I won’t hit you, you little brat. However, you must clarify why you think home isn’t happy!" Dong Army seized the opportunity to find a way out for himself.
Dong Ran gritted his teeth, "Since I was little, unless you argue, you argue! When I want to play with Dad, you only give me money, nothing but money! When I want to chat with Mom, you only talk about today’s limited-edition bags and which aunt’s wife you’re going to play mahjong with."
Saying this, Dong Ran couldn’t help but cry. What kind of home could he rely on? A "home" solely supported by material economics.
"How can I be happy with such a home? Ah?" Dong Ran said, then turned and went into the bedroom.
After hearing Dong Ran’s words, Dong Army and Dong Ran’s mother both lowered their heads, unsure what to say.
Jiang Cheng broke the awkward silence, slowly saying, "Don’t force Dong Ran, let him stay with me for now, we’ll figure out a long-term plan!"
"Alright, alright, thank you Teacher Jiang, then we’ll take our leave!" Dong Army stood up, addressing Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng waved his hand, responding, "It’s nothing, just that when you go back, think carefully and reflect on your child’s education methods! Also, minimize the impact of your divorce on the child."
Dong Ran’s parents nodded repeatedly, "Okay, we certainly will, thank you Teacher Jiang! Excuse us, goodbye!"
After speaking, the two left Jiang Cheng’s house with smiles.
Time flew by, and Jiang Cheng and Dong Ran began to live the "two-person world" days, though mundane, yet feeling extremely warm.
One day, Jiang Cheng was in the office reviewing documents when he heard his assistant Linda’s internal call.
