Chapter 1173: Returning Profession

Abyssal Depths also realized something else.

Kyle had given her something of considerable value by sharing these two bits of information with her.

The greater the difference in power, the more Karmic Luck the stronger party would lose when killing the weaker party. Because of that, Kyle's Excursion Team would only be attacked by Adept or Minor Immortals, at most. Medium Immortals and stronger would lose too much Karmic Luck. However, with Kyle's power, he could probably kill most Adept Immortals.

Another important factor was that the stronger party would only lose Karmic Luck if they were also the aggressor. If a weaker person attacked a stronger person first, the stronger person could kill the weaker person without losing any Karmic Luck.

Depending on how powerful Kyle was, this could allow him to kill several Immortals without losing any Karmic Luck since they would be the aggressors. Even more, Kyle knew the Law of Karmic Causality, which meant that he could not only kill one but all of their Avatars.

If Abyssal Depths decided to warn other Immortals before they launched an attack, she would have saved their lives. This was worth a lot. In fact, this could give her one or more levels of Karmic Luck.

They had essentially just met, but Kyle had already given her something of significant value. She hadn't invested anything in the Excursion Team yet, which meant she wouldn't lose anything if it never formed.

However, this would also mean that she couldn't be part of the Excursion Team anymore.

"Thank you for telling me," Abyssal Depths transmitted. "I will not share this information with anyone."

"Thank you," Kyle answered with a small smile.

"We have to be careful of how you use your Law of Karmic Causality," Abyssal Depths transmitted. "It can be an exceptional deterrent, but it can also attract more attention. The more powerful you are, the more wealth you are likely to carry."

"I understand," Kyle answered. "By the way, I've already made a plan and bought some things. Are you fine with waiting for around 70,000 to 90,000 years? I will pay your rent."

Kyle shared his plan and the team's finances with Abyssal Depths.

"Our finances are not too bad," Abyssal Depths commented. "I also have around 50 Grade Nine Energy Stones. If it's necessary, we can also use part of my funds."

"Thank you for the offer, but I think it's best we wait for a bit. We can talk about this later. For now, we should wait until Sebastian, or Lost Spark, is ready," Kyle transmitted.

Abyssal Depths glanced at Sebastian, who seemed to be lost in thought. She wasn't sure if she should voice her concerns.

"I know what you're thinking," Kyle transmitted. "He might seem relatively weak right now, but that will soon change. Give him some time to prepare. Trust me, he will not be a burden."

"Then, I'm looking forward to his development," Abyssal Depths answered.

"Are you ready to work?" Kyle asked Sebastian as he requested access to Sebastian's Soul Space.

Sebastian granted Kyle access. "Sure thing," he answered as he saw 103 Grade Nine Energy Stones, a couple of Comprehension Fruits, and a Time Compressor appearing in his Soul Space.

"It shouldn't take too long," Kyle transmitted. "After you become a Beginner Immortal, your comprehension speed should increase even more. Creating a Complex Primordial Force Law shouldn't be too difficult. If everything works out, you might gain the power to fight an Adept Immortal."

Sebastian took a deep breath as he pushed his lamentations about Melanie to the back of his mind. He had to be strong! He refused to be a burden!

"No worries! I'll absolutely reach a level that allows me to fight an Adept Immortal! I might not necessarily win, but I can buy us time!" Sebastian answered.

"I know," Kyle answered with a smile.

The team talked for a while longer about their plans, and eventually, they talked about their team's composition.

"Usually, Excursion Teams have between three and five members," Abyssal Depths explained. "There is no fixed number, but this is the norm. Having fewer than three members can be risky since many teams have members that cover each other's weaknesses. Having more than five members makes it harder to find good members."

"The more members a team has, the wider the gulf between the weakest and strongest members. Loot is usually distributed evenly, which means there is less loot for each member. Due to the way power scales, having more than five members also doesn't necessarily mean that you can attempt fighting riskier battles. Two New Immortals might win against a Beginner Immortal, but an Adept Immortal can easily kill ten New Immortals, assuming everyone has average Battle-Strength."

"We're three members right now, but we could also get one or two more. I would strongly suggest getting a Formation Array Master, but they don't come cheap," Abyssal Depths explained.

"How important are Formation Array Masters in Excursion Teams?" Sebastian asked.

"They can range from useful to overpowering," Abyssal Depths answered. "They can create Formation Arrays that protect our ranged members. They can expand the range of our Divine Consciousness. They can create fortifications. They can hide us if we happen to find a Level Eight Law Well, allowing us to comprehend in peace. They can sense other Formation Arrays and destroy them. If we buy them time, some of them can also create so many Formation Arrays that they can jump one or two levels. Lastly, some natural resources can only be harvested with the help of complicated Formation Arrays."

"Sounds pretty important," Kyle commented. "How do we get one?"

"It's basically impossible," Abyssal Depths answered. "We are an Excursion Team without any renown, and we're not very powerful on the surface. There are more Excursion Teams than there are proper Formation Array Masters. On average, the Formation Array Master of an Excursion Team is one to two levels below the strongest member of the team since the team can't attract or afford a Formation Array Master on their level."

Kyle furrowed his brows. Formation Array Masters hadn't been that important in the past, but things were different now. The things that had changed were the values. In the past Realms, someone needed to fulfill all kinds of criteria to grow stronger, and most of the time, it was easier to meet these criteria when someone worked alone. Additionally, learning about Formation Arrays took precious time away from working on one's Realm. Lastly, everyone had needed to focus on their Momentum as well, which meant direct battle had been important.

Now, all of these things had changed. At some point in the Universe Realm, most Immortals hit the hard limit of Momentum, which meant they didn't need to work on improving it anymore. Since resources were so important in the Universe Realm, it also made sense to work in teams. Lastly, since there was no longevity cap anymore, learning about Formation Arrays didn't cannibalize one's potential growth.

There were Immortals who had learned about Formation Arrays for millions of years, becoming exceptionally good at creating them.

Kyle remembered his past identity of Azure Comet. Sure, he had been very good at creating Formation Arrays back then, but that was because not many people had truly focused on the path of Formation Arrays. Now, there were people who exclusively specialized in Formation Arrays. Battle-Strength was no longer important.

Only true power mattered.

'Could I become a Formation Array Master?'
