Stockpiling for an Exiled General Through My Store's Back Door
Chapter 103: Danger, Green Eyes
Chapter 103: Chapter 103: Danger, Green Eyes
"You’re here?"
Hua Buwan had been waiting for him at the counter for a while. Too lazy to cook a proper meal, she had just made some instant noodles to fill her stomach. When Ling Qianjun walked in, he happened to catch her slurping them down.
"Have you eaten? Do you want a cup?" Hua Buwan swallowed her mouthful of noodles and looked at Ling Qianjun.
Ling Qianjun shook his head. "I already ate over there."
"All right then. Wait just a moment; I’ll head over to Dongxuan Country with you as soon as I finish." Hua Buwan sped up her eating.
Ling Qianjun took the initiative to find a red plastic stool and sat down. "There’s no rush."
Despite his words, Hua Buwan continued to eat quickly, finishing her meal in just a few minutes.
"Let’s go." Hua Buwan locked the supermarket doors and urged Ling Qianjun to set off.
Stepping through the Any Door, they arrived in the same pitch-black forest. Exiled prisoners like them rarely rested in an inn, doing so only under special circumstances when they reached a town. Most of the time, they tried to avoid populated areas and rested on the edge of the woods.
She had been a little scared during her first visit, but she was much more relaxed now. As they walked forward, she followed closely on Ling Qianjun’s heels.
Suddenly, a dark shadow darted past her. Startled, Hua Buwan lunged forward and grabbed Ling Qianjun’s sleeve. "What was that?"
Afraid of being overheard by the people not far away, she kept her voice low despite her fear, though it still trembled slightly.
Ling Qianjun stopped and focused on the darting silhouette. Once he identified it, he chuckled. "That’s a rabbit. Stand here and don’t move. I’ll go catch it. I’ll be right back." Saying this, Ling Qianjun dashed off in the direction the rabbit had fled.
"A rabbit?" Hua Buwan immediately let go of his sleeve and curiously watched Ling Qianjun run after it.
The rabbit had only scurried a short distance away, and Ling Qianjun caught up to it in no time. True to his reputation as a young General, he remained incredibly agile even while chasing prey through a pitch-black forest.
Hua Buwan stood quietly to the side, watching him expertly capture it. His movements were quick and precise. Within moments, he had caught several more. She couldn’t help but admire him; Ling Qianjun wasn’t just highly skilled in martial arts, he was also exceptional at catching rabbits.
Ling Qianjun walked back holding the catch, a triumphant smile on his face. "Look, we lucked out! There’s actually a whole rabbit den just up ahead. We can have a little extra for dinner tonight," he said, handing the rabbits to Hua Buwan.
Hua Buwan took them. Looking at their fluffy bodies, her heart nearly melted at how adorable they were. She suddenly remembered that popular phrase: "How can you eat rabbits when they’re so cute?"
Haha! Yet, she wondered, "Should I braise them, roast them, stew them, or turn them into soup?"
Seeing Hua Buwan so delighted, Ling Qianjun felt his efforts were well worth it. Carrying the rabbits, the two quickly continued onward.
They were completely unaware that after they left, a cluster of glowing green eyes emerged from the depths of the forest.
The Ling Family had already found a spot beneath a large tree. Ling Yunge and Xu Panqing sat on either side, while Ling Qianfan faced outward, keeping a watchful eye on the group of people ahead of them.
When Hua Buwan arrived, she sat between Ling Yunge and Xu Panqing right at the base of the tree. The massive trunk completely concealed her figure, and the two women guarded her from the left and right.
Ling Qianjun sat down beside Ling Qianfan. The two men essentially acted as sentries; from this vantage point, they had a clear view of the other group’s movements.
