Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2220: Crimson Breath
Chapter 2220: Chapter 2220: Crimson Breath
Because he didn’t summon the Ring of Fate, the fastest spellcaster was Shard.
His right foot stomped the ground, and simultaneously, crimson glimmers emerged beneath his foot like a volcano eruption. A pillar of blood mist erupted from beneath the distant beach, with the center of the explosion right under the three members of the Dragon Feast Cult.
The man with black dragon scales on his face had yet to recover but managed to dodge the mist with the help of his companions. Having witnessed the power of this move earlier, he didn’t forget to remind them:
"Don’t touch the blood mist, he’s probably a very powerful Vampire Kind. This corrosive blood mist can’t even be blocked by the dragon scales of our cultivated creatures!"
After the explosion, the blood mist did not disperse but instead dyed a large portion of the sand red, creating blister-like blood puddles and rifts on the surface. The high-ring vampires engaging with the New World Mutual Aid Society trio consciously avoided the area; the four were from the New World and seemed familiar with each other.
The cultists who couldn’t dodge swiftly enough managed to evade the first wave of blood mist but still stepped onto the crimson sand now rapidly turning eerie.
Just mere contact with the ground caused a slight curse and a melting sensation on their skin, making them realize something was amiss. Observing Mr. Benhart ready to intercept outside the blood-red sand, while Shard, the spellcaster, stood directly on the sand, they understood this was the territory of these two Vampires.
Indeed, the corroded sand didn’t affect Shard, but the explosion of blood mist consumed quite a lot of his Spirit.
He didn’t summon the Ring of Fate but raised his hand to unleash a scarlet moonlight slash forward. He rarely used the power of the "Red Moon" for the "Moonlight Slash," but this near blood-colored slash shimmered with a ruby-like hue.
The three cultists immediately converged, and in their three Rings of Fate, the Spirit Rune pertaining to "Dragon" glowed simultaneously. In the next moment, a dragon scale phantom, as tall as a person, appeared right in front of them, and as ruby-glowing fragments scattered, the dragon scale shield shattered, while Shard’s second red moon beam was already approaching them.
"That Vampire Kind is a High Ring Sorcerer, let’s split up and tie him down!"
The severely injured cultist with jet-black dragon scales raised a shield again, and in the next moment, after the shield was shattered, he fell into complete unconsciousness, relying on the mutated dragon scales on his body to resist Shard’s strike.
The crimson sand increasingly affected these individuals with dragon strength, those with dragon horns on their heads and dragon claws on their right hands could not fly, but relying on their powerful physical quality, they bent their legs and almost propelled themselves towards Shard during the brief moment of opportunity their companions fought for.
They didn’t choose a ranged incantation battle because it was clear they couldn’t withstand those attacks, whether glimmer or blood blade. The power of the dragon imbued them with extreme confidence in their physical strength, and the unfolding of arcane technique caused their dragon mutated forms to further swell.
Meanwhile, Shard stood still, not even considering raising a shield.
He glared furiously and took a deep breath—
Roar!
The dragon roar finally exploded at Moon Bay’s docks a week later. The wave of sonic attack, filled with massive energy, formed strange ripples on the sand, centered around Shard’s standing point. The two cultists closest to Shard simultaneously oozed blood from their ears, maintaining their charging posture, as if their bodies stiffened, crashing onto the crimson sand.
At that moment when the dragon roar sounded, they clearly heard a pureblood ancient dragon roaring before them. The suppression effect from the dragon’s higher bloodline was even more effective than the sonic attack produced by "Magic - Dragon Roar" itself.
Even Mr. Benhart beside the crimson sand couldn’t help but cover his ears, and the four engaged in chaotic battle elsewhere were startled by the sudden dragon roar, generating an identical misconception:
"Not good, those three from the Dragon Feast Cult have summoned a dragon!"
They simultaneously ceased their attack, and upon turning, the source of the sound was evidently the human-shaped Shard. The unfavorable connection in their hearts led them to suspect this person transformed from an ancient dragon into a human. But they immediately dismissed this absurd assumption as the two stiff bodies struggled to stand up, maintaining their Rings of Fate, gathering the last of their strength to strike Shard simultaneously:
"Power of the Black Dragon!"
"Fist of Samor!"
Shard still did not evade, with Power of the Red Dragon initiated. After acquiring the Miracle - [Dragon] Spirit Rune, although this incantation hadn’t transformed into an arcane technique, its effects had already undergone a qualitative change, and Shard believed this was related to the flesh he had consumed.
Even without summoning the Ring of Fate, when he exerted his full power, the sound of his punch breaking through the air was nearly akin to a dragon’s roar. Thus, the fists of three collided, and with the sound of bone shattering that could make teeth ache, the right arms of the two cultists simultaneously exploded into a blood mist, and their bodies were sent flying backward, into the darkness at the edge of the beach where the moonlight hadn’t reached.
Shard glanced at his fist, then looked in the direction where the two had flown. The light of lanterns had appeared; the church’s team was coming.
"Delay them for a moment."
Shard said to Mr. Benhart, and the Vampire Viscount nodded and transformed into a cloud of blood mist, flying into the sky. Although he surely couldn’t defeat a full-fledged church team, he could at least delay them.
Shard didn’t pay attention to the other four people who had stopped but instead turned towards the ocean, watching the Vampire Beast who had unfolded genuine dragon wings before the moon, although its body still resembled that of a giant bat.
"Isn’t the life force and recovery ability of this thing too exaggerated?"
The monster that had left the beach while everyone else was entangled in combat, didn’t attempt to flee this time. Tonight, the Yellow Moon was nearly full, and before that sea bay amidst stars and the yellow moon, it finally revealed its most primitive form.
The body of the Vampire Beast was fused with dragon wings, one-third of its surface was human skin and integrated with dragon scales, dragging an enormous dragon beast tail disproportionate to its body.
When the people, including Shard, focused their gaze on it, its wide-open mouth had already completed a full dragon breath charge. Crimson flames, bearing all the rage and resentment of its owner tonight, were about to be spewed forth at this moment. This time, abandoning all means of escape, it unleashed its strongest attack for revenge aimed at everyone on the dock’s beach.
The [Higgs Dragonhead Stone] slid into Shard’s hand from his sleeve as he took a deep breath. He initially thought of channeling the moonlight’s power but then had a new idea. Suddenly, he bit his tongue tip, and the crimson corrupt mist instantly surged from the surrounding sand towards Shard and with the deep inhalation flowed back into his body through his pores and facial features.
At the moment when the monster under the moon and Shard on the beach simultaneously opened their mouths, the scorching flame and corrupt blood mist drew dazzling streaks of light in the air under the moonlit night, colliding together, and the overlapping Dragon Roar once again disturbed countless people’s dreams tonight.
On the rooftop of the Belindel Estate’s mansion, the witch gazed far into the direction of the dock’s flickering lights. Emilia stood by with a sleepy little unicorn, and upon the unicorn’s back lay Mia, waiting for Shard’s return.
The pure white little beast was very concerned, while the squinting cat resting showed no concern at all, and the Elf Girl’s vision was equally sharp, allowing her to clearly see two unusual red lights far away:
"Is that Shard, Mr. Watson?"
The witch glanced at her skeptically, suspecting she almost said the man’s real name. But this also revealed to her that the fifty-something adolescent Elf Girl beside her likely knew who Shard truly was:
"From my experiences in the past month, any unusual event locally can be attributed to him. I recall he went to catch that vampire beast tonight... Don’t worry, he’s far more formidable than you imagine. Though with the noise over there being so loud, he probably will return soon. Matilda, go inform the kitchen to prepare a midnight snack."
"Yes, Miss."
The Blonde Head Maid responded, elegantly turning and leaving the mansion rooftop via the stairs. Emilia pursed her lips while watching the distant red lights gradually fade, yet the spirit’s lingering trace still left a lasting scar on her retina:
"I seem to have heard the Dragon Roar just now; it sounded very similar to the sounds the Professor played for us during class."
"Indeed, that’s why I said it’s likely related to him."
The witch’s lips curled, probably recalling something joyful. She intended to test if the Elf also knew about Transformation, but Emilia proactively said;
"Yet the transformed sound is different; when I rode on him with his cat flying, I heard that call, it’s different from this time."
The witch’s smile vanished, she glanced again at the beautiful Blonde Elf, momentarily uncertain if she was intentionally mentioning this now.
At the edge of the beach in the dock area, as the crimson blood mist spewed by Shard completely broke through the flame breath, carrying terrifying corrosive qualities, it entirely engulfed the monster in the bright yellow moon. This time, Shard spared no effort until the creature, born from the basement’s sewers, killing its "mother" by draining its blood at birth, was corroded down to its last remaining body remnants, he finally closed his mouth.
The opponent made two errors; first, competing energy release with him under the night moon; second, the opponent was clearly a dragon. Although the [Higgs Dragonhead Stone]’s special effects range was narrow, its special attack effectiveness against dragons was undisputed.
