Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2219: Brawl
Chapter 2219: Chapter 2219: Brawl
The face of the vampire monster hidden under the hood was obscure, and the cultist was waiting for its answer. But suddenly it looked up, took off the hood of the robe, revealing the bald head and the scar-covered face:
"You created me, but I wasn’t born because of you."
The cultist under the moon frowned at it:
"Do you want to rebel against your creator?"
"You who claim to be creators are even less respectful than me."
As the words fell, the blood mist erupted behind it, forming the shape of dragon wings, and it flew directly into the sky. The cultist with a face covered in black dragon scales stood on the beach watching the other soar higher, then took out a strange-looking bone whistle shaped like a finger and put it in his mouth:
Buzz~
The whistle’s sound wasn’t sharp, but rather very deep. To Shard, it was just a strange sound, but it caused the monster flying in the sky to scream and fall heavily back to the ground.
The sound of the waves slightly suppressed the whistle, and things seemed to be getting more interesting.
"Why not think carefully, since we created you, do you think we haven’t thought about you rebelling against us?"
The cultist with black dragon scales on his face smiled and asked, but as he spoke, the whistle was still in his mouth, with no relaxation:
"I admit, your unexpected escape using the body of that prostitute while that damn Black went to have fun was surprising, but it’s a good thing, letting you learn to grow and fight on your own is better than being in a dirty lab in the sewers."
He took a deep breath and blew the strange bone whistle again, only approaching the monster writhing and screaming on the ground once he confirmed it wasn’t faking:
"Now take me with you, let’s see what you found underground. Don’t think I don’t dare kill you, we have the ability to create the first you, we have the ability to create a second."
He deliberately spoke in a relaxed tone, but Shard could see that his whole body was tense and vigilant against the monster lying on the beach. The faint moonlight illuminated this scene, although there was no evidence, the silver cat knew in his heart, that the man was likely to fall into a trap.
So in the next second, the humanoid monster on the beach exploded like a steam bomb, its corrosive blood fog swelling, while the man with a face covered in black dragon scales retreated and blew the whistle again.
Buzz~
Ah~
The whistle’s sound successfully appeared but was immediately overwhelmed by another sharper strange sound.
From the blood mist, a bat monster with one-third of its body wrapped in dragon scales glided out, and the sonic wave from its open mouth directly suppressed the sound of the whistle.
Not only that, the sonic wave emitted by the bat monster even caused blood to ooze from the cultist’s ears. He tried to produce a louder sound with the whistle while quickly retreating, but within seconds, the bone whistle shattered into pieces due to the sonic wave.
The intense sonic wave finally left the cultist bleeding from seven orifices, collapsing on the beach with his body convulsing, immobilized, the scene was the complete opposite of just moments ago.
But the bat monster flying over the beach didn’t kill him, instead, it looked towards the direction near the city on the beach.
The person hadn’t appeared, but the wind blade slashed by the sword appeared first. The bat monster relied on its extremely fast speed to dodge the attack in the sky, then dozens of blood-red bats flew out from its body towards the direction of the attack.
John Flynn, holding the Invisible Sword, quickly arrived on the beach, but the two to hold off from the Dragon Feast Cult as well as his own teammates did not appear.
He just glanced quickly and saw the current situation clearly, the huge Six Rings Life Ring appeared behind him, allowing Shard to see his Core Spirit Rune: Enlightenment [Knight] [Movement] and [Life].
Miracle - [Blade] appeared with golden spiritual light at the same time, John Flynn leapt up sharply and then vanished in the air, appearing with a light pop behind the airborne bat monster, his Invisible Sword was fully released, revealing the long sword with elven runes, straight through where the bat monster’s heart should be, unexpecting an opponent with spatial movement ability.
The two together fell, but before hitting the ground, the monster once again transformed into crimson blood mist, fleeing towards the ocean.
The wind blade was swung again by the longsword, but unfortunately, the invisible wind was not very effective against the misty state monster. Fortunately, over the moonlit ocean, Shard’s figure silently appeared, spraying an even more terrifying red mist at the blood mist:
"Corrupt Blood Fog!"
Came crashing into the red mist spewed by Shard, a scream echoed viably for the umpteenth time tonight. It desperately tried to retreat to the beach, tracing an S-shaped trajectory in the air before crashing heavily onto the sand, once again becoming a puddle of blood-red sludge cloaked in black robes. Yet in the next moment, the blood mist surged again, attempting to aid it in healing swiftly.
"Its vitality is truly tenacious."
Shard followed it onto the beach. The commotion over here was so large that the Church’s squad would likely arrive shortly. Time was tight, and Shard spoke no unnecessary words. The black chains sprang from his sleeves, leaving traces on the sand like a long snake, soon binding the figure once more emerging from the blood mist.
"What is this mist? Flesh! Crimson! Corruption! Withering! Who are you!"
Even as its ability to move completely dissipated, the creature with its corroded skin still roared, questioning Shard, who stood on the beach with his back to the Moon over the sea.
Shard certainly ignored him but looked towards the young man approaching with a longsword in hand.
The "Sword of the Wind King" concealed its blade once more, but Shard could still roughly sense its presence through the spiritual fluctuations. Tonight, to successfully disguise himself, he carried no weapons, relying only on the newly acquired Arcane Technique used earlier. Fortunately, the man walking toward him was not an adversary.
Though Shard perceived the person as "young," John Flynn appeared to be about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, yet his actual age was probably over thirty. He stopped at just the right spot but did not recognize the man capable of spewing blood mist.
"Do you also want it?"
Shard proactively questioned, but John Flynn shook his head:
"Although I indeed want it and its secrets, you captured it, so it is your spoils of war. Even if I wish to take it from you, I would only pursue and investigate you afterward, not make a move now."
He voluntarily retracted the Ring of Fate behind him, turned towards the city’s direction with his back to Shard:
"My companions are merely delaying those two cultists, but...they’re here."
However, who entered the beach boundary was not his companions and the two cultists. A swarm of blood-colored bats nearly shrouded the entire starry sky, then coalesced into two figures. One was, of course, Mr. Benhart, clutching his left shoulder with his right hand, appearing in poor condition. The other, though also Vampire Kind, was not the two Shard saw earlier.
The one appearing while holding a black top hat was unmistakably a High Ring Sorcerer, openly revealing his Vampire Kind nature, with a dehydrated and wrinkled face. Two sharp teeth exposed outside his mouth glistened coldly in the deep night.
As soon as he appeared, he abandoned Mr. Benhart, soared over John Flynn’s head, and transformed into a blood light charging towards Shard, closest to the ocean on the beach. However, as Shard spewed another mouthful of blood mist, the High Ring Vampire Kind immediately retreated to his original position. After reforming into human shape, he nervously fiddled with his hat and whispered softly:
"What is this Arcane Technique? It seems like a power specially targeted at blood. Corrupt flesh, what have the folks in Velindale researched now?"
It appeared he also mistook Shard for Vampire Kind.
"Those two were severely injured by me earlier, and when I wanted to interrogate them, this guy showed up. He’s also from the Blood Spirit School, quite formidable... Nine Rings or Ten Rings."
Mr. Benhart explained Shard’s confusion, retreating to his side while panting heavily. Yet upon closer proximity, Shard realized his injuries weren’t particularly severe.
Excluding the monster now locked by the Great Sin Chain and the heavily injured black dragon scale man from the Dragon Feast Cult, the current scene seemed a one-to-three standoff, where the bearer of Sword of the Wind King also regarded the Vampire Kind as an enemy.
Only before the people sizing each other up could make exploratory moves, new figures emerged from the city’s direction.
The lady who had been following John Flynn entered the beach area with protection by a robust man wielding a hammer, and behind the two, cultists from the Dragon Feast Cult closely followed.
The four had clearly experienced a battle, and it seemed the two from New World Mutual Aid Society were at a disadvantage. However, upon arriving at the beach, they were stunned by the unexpected number of people here. Yet none took action first; even the High Ring Vampire Kind did not hinder the three from New World Mutual Aid Society from regrouping, nor did Shard and Mr. Benhart obstruct the cultists from aiding their severely wounded companions.
Thus the situation became a standoff among Shard and Mr. Benhart, three from New World Mutual Aid Society led by John Flynn, the High Ring Vampire Kind from Blood Spirit School, and three from Dragon Feast Cult wielding Dragon Strength, totaling 9 people from four factions eyeing each other.
Everyone was aware the Church’s squad could appear at any moment, yet no one hastily made a move. The dock’s weather tonight was clear, the evening breeze alongside the sound of waves made for an unexpectedly pleasant atmosphere. The people surveyed each other, gradually adjusting their positions, eventually forming a circle around the unmoving Vampire Monster.
Everyone’s target was it, and ultimately, amid the sound of waves, the first disturbance was the black chains releasing the crippled monster, sliding noisily back along the trench they had pulled on the sand earlier, returned to Shard’s sleeves.
Shard deliberately let the chains make such noticeable noise to test the others’ patience. Thus, as the last segment of chain freed from the sand, diving into Shard’s sleeves, everyone moved simultaneously.
Except for Shard, the eight others had their respective Rings of Fate emerge behind them simultaneously; in such chaos, the possibility of holding back didn’t exist. Amidst those four-color spectral glows illuminating the entire beach, without manifesting his Ring of Fate, Shard abruptly raised his right foot and stomped towards the sand.
