Chapter 2191: Chapter 2191: World Travel Manual
"Good morning, Miss Danester, I..."
After greeting, Shard was just about to speak but then realized that it still wasn’t safe enough. The doctor described the demon as so formidable that Shard couldn’t guarantee whether the projection state was secure. Besides, such an important matter, he felt it was better to discuss it face to face:
"Miss Danester. Can I go to the Academy now? I want to talk to you in person."
The female sorceress frowned slightly. She understood Shard’s character; if it wasn’t something serious, he certainly wouldn’t make such a request. And once he did, it meant what Shard encountered was something even more troublesome than dragons:
"Okay, I’ll send someone to prepare the relic to bring you over right now. I’ll return to the library, see you there in half an hour."
"What were you doing just now? I noticed this isn’t the library."
Shard asked again, and Miss Danester shook her head indifferently:
"You don’t need to worry about that, I was just inspecting and assessing the school hospital according to the regulations with a few other professors. It’s no big deal, you’re more important. See you in half an hour... Do I need to prepare any materials in advance?"
"Not for now, I’ll tell you once I arrive."
Miss Danester’s efficiency was very high. She said to meet in half an hour, but in fact, Shard was just pacing back and forth at home, holding a curious cat and anxiously waiting for 18 minutes when new content appeared on the page, which was information about a relic:
[Sage-Level Relic - World Travel Manual. The relic is an album with a total of 8 pages and each page can hold 6 empty spaces for 3.5 inches (85mm) x 5 inches (127mm) size photos. The specific characteristics are as follows:
1. Place any 1x6 photos taken within three natural years, centered on the same real scene, into the album to open a door leading to the target area. The door stays open for 24 hours, and removing the photos can close the door prematurely.
2. Place any 2x6 photos taken within three natural years, centered on the same living creature, into the album to randomly open a door within 10 miles of the target. The door stays open for 12 hours, and removing the photos can close the door prematurely.
3. Place 3x6 photos centered on the same non-realistic scene (known ones being: Astral Realm, Emerald Dream, Dreamscape, Subspace, Subsidiary Space, with further content unrestricted) into the album to open a door leading to the target area. The door is a one-time one-way entry.
4. Place 4x6 fabricated photos of non-corresponding locations into the album to produce a dangerous level 3 space shattering phenomenon at the relic’s location, which can be used to destroy space-type seals and parts of Maze Locks. (Note: Following the Green Lake incident in the spring of the Sixth Era 1854, the use of this feature for any space research is strictly prohibited, with considerations for upgrading this relic to "Angel-Level").
5. Place any 5x6 photos taken within three to six natural years, centered on the same real scene, into the album to open a door leading to the target time and area. This door stays open for 3 seconds and cannot be passed through. Tripping this feature will result in a time curse.
6. Place 6x6 blank photos into the album, lacking the necessary permission.
7. Place the relic derivative "Willow Cabin by the Lake Photo" and its replica, pre-existing within the relic upon discovery: 7x6 photos, into the album to open a door leading to the fragment space - Willow Cabin by the Lake. (Note: For specific space information, please apply additionally through the Academy of Library Management).
8. Place 8x6 photos of the relic’s location into the album to freeze the area’s time for 3600 seconds.
9. Specific photo combinations can result in extremely dangerous destructive outcomes. Specific information requires additional application through the Academy of Library Management.]
"This is a space-time type relic!"
Shard was only using this relic to travel to the Academy, so there was no need to inform him of all the relic’s characteristics. However, Miss Danester for some reason still sent all this information over. Shard felt that perhaps Miss Danester wanted him to gain some insights, as usually, the intelligence on sage-level relics is among the most expensive knowledge and information.
Moreover, relics involving time and space are extremely rare, and Shard had hardly heard of relics possessing both space-time powers.
He was quite interested in this relic. While going through the photos taken at home when he initially bought a second-hand camera from the Steam Bird Daily Office as practice, he was curious. If he could somehow use a special camera to photograph those spaces left by the Ancient God, or even find a way to photograph "True Death" and place it in the album, he wondered what would happen.
[Perhaps it’s because there are so many "creative" Circle Sorcerers like you that in this era, the Church of the Five Gods and the Three Major Academies are more inclined to collect rather than utilize relics.]
"She" chuckled gently, while Shard had already sent six inspected photos, ensuring nothing inappropriate was captured, off to the Academy via the manuscript paper.
After waiting for another 60 seconds, an unexpected beep~ suddenly resounded from nowhere, followed by a vertically appearing blue light line in the air, which scared Mia into Shard’s embrace.
Standing up, Shard watched as the light line split horizontally, forming a complete sky-blue wooden door frame. He examined it up and down before lightly knocking on the door twice, then opened it, walking through with Mia, who refused to leave his side.
Beyond the door was the central courtyard of the Saint Byrons Integrated Academy’s Great Library, a place Shard was very familiar with. Seeing Shard stepping out from the door, Miss Danester closed the World Travel Manual in her hands and placed it on the coffee table, gesturing for Shard to sit down:
"What is so urgent?"
Shard closed the door temporarily, then sat down on the couch to the side. Taking a deep breath, the library’s inherent scent lifted his spirits and alleviated his previous restlessness. As the teapot floated to pour him some tea, he soothed the slightly uneasy cat due to the unfamiliar surroundings and then softly asked Miss Danester:
"I apologize for the intrusion. Skipping pleasantries, it’s like this: are you familiar with Demon of Misfortune - Fanarius?"
With the two sitting close, Shard clearly saw moments of bewilderment, frowning confusion, and even wide-eyed astonishment cross the female sorceress’s face. She didn’t answer immediately but instead beckoned backward, causing a massive book as thick as Mia to fly from a distant unknown shelf — "Names That Should Not Be Read Aloud: Dangerous Objects Catalog."
Miss Danester quickly flipped it open and confirmed a page, making sure she hadn’t mistaken the information, before unbelievably looking up and asking Shard:
"You aren’t going to tell me you encountered this Ancient Evil Spirit and got cursed, are you?"
"It’s not me; it’s Emilia."
Clearly, she was initially quite worried, but upon receiving Shard’s response, she instinctively seemed to relax, only to then feign concern similar to before. After all, Emilia was also a student of Saint Byrons, and she couldn’t show partiality:
"Are you sure what you discovered is what you described?"
Shard presented the explanation he had prepared at home:
"When I was conducting an investigation in Moon Bay City, I met a famous Female Diviner - Lady Amethyst. She divined the leaf Emilia acquired and confidently provided an answer. I verified it by other means. Well, I consulted another High Ring Female Sorceress, and I am very sure that the leaf Emilia first obtained was indeed from that demon, just as I’m confident the seventh Chosen One will emerge in Moon Bay."
By shifting the source of information to Moon Bay, it had no connection with Dr. Schneider, who was the key suspect. Since Shard claimed it was Moon Bay, Miss Danester, to protect Shard’s secret, would certainly not detail this matter to other professors. But if Shard had said he got the information in Tobesk, the Academy might focus on the doctor.
Hearing what Shard said, Miss Danester’s mouth twitched slightly. She always knew Shard’s information was quite well-connected:
"I remember you’ve encountered demons before, such as the one during the Green Lake incident, and these are just two months apart. Shard, you’re not seriously considering becoming a Demon Hunter, are you?"
"Of course not, it’s just that demons keep appearing around me."
Shard shook his head:
"The key now is the demon."
"Do you want to seal it? I must remind you, the one appearing this time and the one from Green Lake, though both claimed as Ancient Evil Spirits, this one is much stronger... far stronger."
She tried to dissuade Shard from irrational actions:
"The Academy will take responsibility for Emilia’s case. Saint Byrons, after all, has two Thirteen Rings. Even if that’s not enough, we can seek assistance from other Academies or the True God Church. Moreover, Emilia’s clan is no ordinary one. In the Ancient Period, with Emilia’s bloodline, she might even contend to be the Ancient God: Father of the Infinite Tree’s priest, you don’t have to risk yourself."
The suggestion Miss Danester gave was the normal course of action, but the doctor had already given his opinion. Moreover, Shard intended not just to rescue the Elf Girl; Dr. Schneider needed the demon too. Now the doctor was at Eight Rings, and advancing from Eight to Nine Rings was different from other cases. This was an Inner Ring promoting High Ring following the chaining of the Sublimation Incantation. Although the doctor hadn’t said, Shard guessed he needed the ancient demon’s power:
"Even if the Academy handles it, it takes time, and innocent people might get involved by then. But I’ve got a plan, Miss Danester, please let me handle it. Minimum of seven days, maximum of two weeks, I’ll ensure Emilia’s safety."
