Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered
Chapter 356: Repairing The Sanctuary Ardent 2
As Aurelian approached, a thin line of light appeared across the metal.
The wall split down the center and opened inward.
Beyond it was a smaller room than he expected.
There were no machines, weapons, or large storage containers. A circular platform stood in the middle of the chamber, surrounded by twelve low pillars. A single chair faced a curved wall covered in inactive glass.
Rhoswen stared at it.
"That looks like a throne."
Aurelian gave her a brief look.
"It is a chair."
"It is raised above the floor, placed in the center of a sealed room, and surrounded by pillars."
"A dramatic chair."
Astra examined the platform.
"There are no visible controls."
Eirenne moved ahead of them, but her projection flickered as soon as she crossed the doorway.
"This chamber is isolated from the main network."
"Again?" Rhoswen asked.
"The sanctuary’s designers did not trust remote access with important systems."
"They were very suspicious people."
"They survived long enough to build this."
"That does not mean they were pleasant."
Aurelian stepped inside.
The lights along the floor came on one by one, revealing old Human writing around the base of the platform.
Emergency command is temporary.
Stewardship exists for the living.
Authority ends when trust is no longer required.
Aurelian read the lines slowly.
"They expected the emergency commander to give up control."
"Yes," Eirenne said. "Once civil leadership could safely be restored."
Rhoswen looked toward him.
"You were already planning to do that."
"I was planning to return civil control to the survivors when they were ready."
"Then this room should like you."
Aurelian moved toward the platform.
A small terminal rose beside the chair.
Unlike the earlier verification systems, it did not ask for blood or another biological scan. It displayed a list of Sanctuary Ardent’s recent decisions.
Preservation power protected.
Population evacuation maintained.
Hostile denial systems removed.
Continuity assets reserved for protected population.
Civil authority restoration accepted.
The last line remained incomplete.
Civil representative consultation pending.
Aurelian looked toward Eirenne.
"It wants someone from the sanctuary population."
"That appears to be the requirement."
"Vaela," Astra said.
Aurelian agreed.
Vaela had protected the sanctuary population before he arrived, helped the medical teams during the evacuation, and understood the people waking inside it better than anyone else available.
He opened a channel to her.
She answered from one of the reserve medical halls. Her hair was tied back, and exhaustion showed clearly on her face even though her voice remained steady.
"Is something wrong?"
"No. We found another verification chamber in the Continuity Vault."
Vaela closed her eyes for a moment.
"There is always another chamber."
Rhoswen nodded in agreement.
Aurelian continued.
"It requires consultation with a civil representative from the protected population. I need you here."
Vaela looked toward someone outside the channel.
"How long?"
"Not long."
"That is what every commander says before taking someone away from a medical hall."
Astra looked at Aurelian.
He decided not to respond to that.
"Bring whoever can replace you for half an hour."
Vaela sighed.
"I’ll come."
She arrived twenty minutes later with two sanctuary medical workers. Both remained outside the chamber while Vaela entered and studied the platform.
Her eyes stopped on the chair.
"I remember hearing about this room."
"From the records?" Aurelian asked.
"From the older workers. Most believed it was symbolic, or perhaps something created to frighten the Compact away from the lower systems."
"The Compact never found it."
"That probably helped the story survive."
She walked toward the terminal.
The system activated when it detected her.
Protected population representative detected.
State identity.
"Vaela Renn. Senior preservation support officer."
State relation to current emergency steward.
Vaela glanced at Aurelian.
"He is the commander who took the sanctuary back from the Compact."
The system waited.
Vaela looked annoyed.
"He also stopped the demolition network, secured the reactor, protected the waking population, and did not abandon us when the Compact fleet arrived."
The final line on the display changed.
Civil representative consultation accepted.
A new question appeared.
Does the protected population recognize emergency stewardship under Commander Aurelian Arcturus?
Vaela read it carefully.
"I cannot speak for eighty-one thousand people."
Aurelian respected the answer.
The system did not reject it.
Instead, another line appeared.
Temporary recognition may be granted by an authorized representative pending civil assembly.
Vaela looked toward him.
"What exactly would I be recognizing?"
"His authority over the sanctuary’s defense, preservation systems, and continuity assets," Eirenne answered. "Not permanent rule. The recognition lasts until a civilian assembly can be formed."
"And if I refuse?"
"The existing emergency authority continues, but deeper systems will remain sealed."
Aurelian stepped away from the terminal.
"You do not have to agree for my sake."
Vaela studied him.
"I know."
She turned back toward the display.
"I recognize Commander Aurelian Arcturus as emergency steward of Sanctuary Ardent until the surviving population can choose civil leadership."
The chamber remained silent for several seconds.
Then the pillars around the platform came alive.
Light moved through them and gathered around the chair, not as a solid wall but as a thin field that formed a complete map of Sanctuary Ardent in the air.
The mountain appeared above the platform.
Every corridor, vault, reactor line, preservation hall, launch route, and hidden chamber became visible at once.
Eirenne went completely still.
Aurelian had never seen her react that way before.
"What is it?" he asked.
"The map includes systems I could not detect."
New sections appeared far beneath the Continuity Vault.
They did not resemble storage halls or medical rooms.
Several were small circular chambers connected by narrow passages, all surrounding one larger central space.
Astra studied them.
"Another hidden level."
Vaela gave Aurelian a tired look.
"Of course there is."
Rhoswen smiled.
"I like this sanctuary."
Eirenne accessed the new records as the chamber accepted Vaela’s recognition.
Her projection brightened, then flickered while she sorted a large amount of old data.
"The lower section is not part of the population shelter. It is listed as the Ardent Steward Core."
"What does it control?" Aurelian asked.
"Long-term sanctuary management, energy balancing, preservation stability, and continuity planning."
