Star Ship Girl Era: My Shipgirls Are Too Overpowered

Chapter 355: Repairing The Sanctuary Ardent

  • Next Chapter

Repair work began across Sanctuary Ardent before the last Compact ship had fully left the system.

Damaged cutters were pulled into the surviving launch halls, wounded defenders were moved toward the medical levels, and the captured boarding troops were divided into separate holding areas before they could reorganize.

Solenne kept her fleet around the sanctuary while Eirenne rebuilt the sensor picture and searched for any ships Ruun might have left behind.

Aurelian remained in the command center until the immediate reports stopped changing every few seconds.

The final numbers were not good, but they could have been worse. The western launch area had taken serious damage, the main batteries were gone, and several smaller weapons had burned through important parts that could not be replaced quickly.

Even so, the preservation halls remained stable, the Continuity Vault was untouched, and none of the medical patients had been lost during the attack.

That mattered more than the condition of the walls.

Rhoswen entered the command center after leaving the cutter with the repair crews. There was a dark mark across one sleeve, and a small cut near her temple had already been sealed with medical gel.

Aurelian looked at it.

"You said the cutter would dock."

"It did."

"You left out the part where it hit the side of the passage."

"It barely touched it."

Eirenne brought up the docking record.

"The impact damaged two exterior plates."

Rhoswen looked toward her projection.

"Nobody asked for a complete report."

"I thought accuracy would help."

"It did not."

Astra returned a few moments later after checking the prisoner transfers. She gave Rhoswen’s cut a brief glance, then looked toward Aurelian.

"The upper halls are secure. Vaela has taken over treatment for the injured prisoners, although she made it clear that her own people remain the priority."

"They should," Aurelian said.

He turned toward the main display.

Solenne’s fleet had taken over the outer patrol line. Her damaged ships were now grouped near Sanctuary Ardent, where the surviving repair units could reach them.

The first ships from the Arcturus family convoy were still several hours away.

Until then, the sanctuary remained weaker than it looked.

"We need to know what else is hidden here," Aurelian said.

Rhoswen looked at the damaged weapon list.

"More guns would be nice."

"Preferably ones that work," Astra added.

Eirenne opened the lower sanctuary map.

"The authority transfer gave me access to most of the command network, but several parts of the Continuity Vault still remain sealed. One section became available after the last battle."

Aurelian looked toward the highlighted area.

It lay beneath the equipment storage rows they had already entered, close to the center of the mountain.

"What changed?"

"The sanctuary recorded that its protected population survived a second attack under your command. That appears to have completed another part of the emergency steward review."

Rhoswen frowned.

"So the sanctuary was still judging him?"

"Yes."

"That seems rude."

"It was designed to protect an entire population from a commander who might misuse emergency authority."

Aurelian understood the reason.

The vault contained enough machines, records, and stored systems to shape the future of several settlements.

It made sense that its designers had placed more than one lock between those assets and whoever claimed command.

"What is inside the newly opened section?" he asked.

"I cannot tell. The records identify it only as the Steward Chamber."

Rhoswen’s expression improved.

"That sounds important."

"It sounds administrative," Astra said.

"That is less exciting."

Aurelian checked the command center one last time.

"Solenne has orbital control, and the prisoners are secured. We can inspect it now."

Rhoswen straightened.

"I assume I’m coming this time."

"Yes."

She looked pleased by the answer.

Aurelian opened a channel to Solenne before leaving.

"We found another sealed chamber in the vault. Astra and Rhoswen are coming with me."

Solenne studied him through the display.

"Eirenne?"

"With us."

"And who is watching the command center?"

"Your fleet, the sanctuary officers, and half the security teams."

"That was not what I asked."

Aurelian almost smiled.

"We won’t be long."

"That is what you said before the first fleet arrived."

"I did not know the Compact would send another commander."

"You rarely know when the next problem will arrive. That has not stopped it yet."

Rhoswen leaned closer to the channel.

"We’ll bring him back."

Solenne looked at her cut and damaged sleeve.

"That is less reassuring than you think."

The channel ended before Rhoswen could answer.

They left the command center and returned to the hidden staircase beneath the reactor. The route was familiar now, but the sanctuary had changed since their first descent.

Maintenance frames moved through the lower passages, carrying power units and replacement cables.

Doors that had remained sealed before now stood open, revealing storage rooms and emergency control stations.

The people who had built Sanctuary Ardent had expected the upper structure to fail one day.

They had prepared for it carefully.

They had built backup command rooms, isolated medical halls, sealed transport routes, and enough power systems to keep the reserve population alive without help from the surface.

What they had not prepared for was the sanctuary remaining occupied by an enemy for centuries.

Aurelian passed the central archive without stopping.

The archive acknowledged him through the wall displays and continued sorting the recovered population records.

Eirenne had already copied the most important legal files and stored them across several secure locations.

Cassian had been right to warn him.

The records proved that Sanctuary Ardent had been built and governed by Humans. They also showed that the Drael Compact had never received any lawful transfer of authority.

That would matter once other Alliance families began asking questions.

They reached the Continuity Vault several minutes later.

Work had already resumed among the storage rows. Construction frames moved toward the cargo lifts, while maintenance machines prepared the agricultural processors selected for transport.

Rhoswen looked around the enormous chamber.

"You weren’t exaggerating."

"I rarely do," Aurelian said.

"That is not true."

Astra stepped between them before Rhoswen could continue.

"Where is the Steward Chamber?"

Eirenne guided them along a narrow route between two rows of habitat modules. The chamber lay near the rear of the vault, behind what had looked like a plain wall during their first inspection.
