Chapter 750: Do you want to hear the story or not?

“So, how do you feel?” Adam asked the next day after entering the med bay.

It was the next day, and Emma was currently lying on one of the medical beds while playing with her unibands holographic screen.

“I feel great,” Emma replied as she looked up with a smile and closed the holographic screen. “I can’t believe how much easier it is to learn and remember things, even without Spector just straight downloading stuff into my brain.”

“I know, pretty cool, right?” Adam responded. “But remember to keep quiet about the whole downloading straight to your brain.”

“I will, don’t worry,” Emma replied.

“Great,” Adam replied. “Well, since you're feeling okay, I need to head back to the mess hall for this meeting with Kate Stevens.”

“Oh, let me tag along,” Emma suggested as she moved to climb out of bed. “You might need my help.”

“Are you sure?” Adam asked in concern.

“I’m fine.” Emma smiled as she heard the concern in Adam’s voice.

“We'd better check with the doctor,” Adam replied. “Spector?”

“She’s fine to accompany you as long as she takes it easy for the next few days. I will monitor her vitals via the neural implant,” Spector replied.

“You can do that?” Emma asked in surprise.

“Affirmative,” Spector replied. “Just like with Adam’s implant, I am also connected to yours, hence why I can download information to you.”

“I see,” Emma replied.

“Well, since the doc says you're good to go,” Adam stated before they both left the med bay.

Milky Way Galaxy, Earth.

“Mother, I request permission to divorce that bastard,” Karen Flemming stated as she stormed into Isabella Flemming’s office.

“Denied,” Isabella replied without looking up from her laptop.

“But, Mother, the bastard cheated on me,” Karen stated in a mixture of anger and pain.

Isabella looked up at her eldest daughter with a comforting smile before saying, “I’m aware, dear, but sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the greater good.”

“What greater good?” Karen retorted. “Do you mean that bastard son of my bastard husband?”

“I’m aware you're angry, dear, but I would advise you against calling him that, unless you want to end up dead,” Isabella warned, causing Karen to realise her mistake and gulp.

“My apologies, Mother,” Karen said meekly.

“It’s fine, just be mindful of what you say about Adam. He’s not someone even the five families combined can easily deal with,” Isabella replied. “But yes, Adam Spencer is one reason why you can’t divorce Benjamin, or at least not yet.

Benjamin's the only thing linking us to Adam right now, and I don’t want to lose the chance to build a closer relationship with him.

Then there is also the fact that you're the newly elected Prime Minister. How do you think it would look if you suddenly got a divorce right after being elected?”

Karen sighed and nodded before saying, “You're right, of course.”

Isabella smiled at her daughter and said, “If it makes you feel better, you can divorce that unfaithful brat and do whatever you want to him, once we've built a stronger connection with my grandson.”

“YOU TWO ARE ALIENS?” Millie screeched in shock.

Adam was in the mess hall with the other women while holding his meeting with Kate Stevens, which was possible thanks to Kate’s old communicator, which Spector had managed to connect with.

Kate and Emily had just revealed to them all their true identities, which came as a shock to everyone, especially Joanne and Triple Trouble, who were in the same room as them.

Initially, everyone had been doubtful of the claim until Emily had revealed her true appearance, which Rowena had instantly recognised.

Emily’s true form had long black hair and eyes that seemed to be a different colour every time you looked at them.

“You're so young!” Millie remarked in surprise. “How are you even a mother at your age?”

“Thank you,” Emily said with a smile. “But I’m actually over two thousand years old; I’m the same age as Rowena.”

“Seriously?” Millie asked in shock.

Rowena rolled her eyes while saying, “You're still the same, always taking on a much younger appearance.”

“Well, when one is able to control how old they appear, why would I choose to appear older?” Emily asked gleefully.

“Whatever,” Rowena scoffed. “Now tell us how you're even still alive.”

Emily smiled as she transformed back into her human appearance before explaining, “After crashing in Roswell back in the nineteen-forties, we determined we needed a way to gather reliable information…”

“Wait a minute,” Emma interrupted. “You're saying the whole Roswell conspiracy was because of you?”

“That’s correct, but perhaps it’s best if we explain everything from the beginning,” Kate suggested.

“I think that would be best,” Emily said in agreement before falling into thought, after which she began to recount their tale. “For us, it began as the ship we were aboard was returning to Alpha Synthetica.

I was researching something in my cabin at the time, and our return trip was proceeding smoothly when suddenly alarms started sounding, and screens appeared informing me that the subspace drive was experiencing an overload.”

“An overload in the subspace drive?” Rowena repeated. “There are literally thousands of safeguards in place to prevent such a thing.”

“Indeed, which is why I believe it was sabotage,” Emily replied.

“Sabotage!” Rowena said in surprise. “Do you have any suspects?”

“I do, but we will come to that,” Emily replied.

“Oh, come on,” Rowena complained. “You can't leave us hanging after saying that.”

“Do you want to hear the story or not?” Emily asked.

“Yes, we do,” Revi replied as she shot Rowena a look that told her to be quiet.

Rowena rolled her eyes in response but didn’t speak.

“Wow, can’t believe that worked,” Stacey remarked.

“I know, right?” Lorelie nodded.

“It’s an age thing,” Aphrodite added with a wink.

“Ladies,” Revi scolded before turning back to Emily and saying, “Please continue, Empress Valance.”

“Thank you, Empress Revi,” Valance replied while smiling.

“Wow, I can’t believe we’re here with two empresses,” Millie hissed.

“Shush,” Jeanie snapped, causing Millie to cheekily stick out her tongue.

Emily smiled at Millie and Jeanie before continuing, “Shortly after the overload was detected, Kate rushed over to my cabin to check on me just before the ship jerked and everyone was thrown sideways as the artificial gravity was unable to compensate in time.

The pair of us heavily impacted the wall, and it took us a few moments to get our bearings, after which we discovered that the ship was hurtling towards the atmosphere of an unknown planet.

We immediately contacted the bridge for a status update; however, the overload had knocked the internal comms offline.

After considering our options, we decided it was best to head directly for the bridge. Unfortunately, as the ship entered the planet's atmosphere and its sensors detected that it was hurtling towards the ground, the ship's mainframe implemented crash procedures and locked down the section we were in.”

“Why would it lock down the section you were in?” Adam asked in surprise.

“The ship we were travelling on is one belonging to the Eidolon royal family; such ships are designed with increased safety and security surrounding the imperial family members' personal cabins. In fact, that entire section of the ship is its own personal shuttle which can detach in emergencies.”

“Such things are common on ships belonging to royal or imperial families, including my own ships,” Revi added.

Emily nodded in agreement before continuing, “As such, when the ship's mainframe detected that it would crash-land on the planet, it commenced lockdown procedures before launching the imperial shuttle.

Thankfully, the shuttle wasn’t affected by whatever caused the ship's subspace drive to overload, and so we were quickly able to take control and fly it from the desk in my cabin.

After doing so, we were able to watch the ship plummet towards the Earth before it crash-landed.

Initially, I wanted to land at the crash site and search for survivors; however, after Emma performed a scan with the shuttle's sensors and failed to detect any life signs, we knew that everyone else had died.

After learning this, Kate widened the search radius on the scan, which allowed us to ascertain that although the planet we had landed on was severely less advanced than our own, it was still at a level where they had detected our crash landing, since we detected several large aircraft en route to our position.

We immediately chose to fly away and find somewhere to hide the shuttle before making our next move.”

“Why not leave Earth on the shuttle and use that to return to your home galaxy and planet?” Joanne asked.

“Because the shuttle lacks a subspace drive,” Emily explained. “After finding a place to hide the shuttle, we used the shuttle's computer to try and ascertain our location in the known universe.

You can understand our surprise when we learned that we were nowhere in the known universe and that, as such, the computer was unable to ascertain our location.

With the shuttle lacking a subspace drive and there being no available jump gates to use, we had no way of knowing how long it would take us to return to the known universe, or even which way to go.
