Chapter 1335 Disappointing Concealment

"Oh, yes, you didn’t personally kill Quan Mingyuan, but I can also prove that you killed him." For the first time, Murong Lengyue displayed a hint of cunning in front of Xiao Lin, with a mix of a businessman’s and a villain’s slyness.

"Then that would be best! A massive bloodbath triggered by the Murong Family, then how will you handle the aftermath?" Xiao Lin lit a cigarette. "Leaving aside the fact that a woman like you might not truly provoke such a war, it would not unfold as you imagine, but you’d be hunted down by a bunch of desperadoes for killing Xun Xiangxiang!" Xiao Lin noticed a glimmer of fear finally appear on Murong Lengyue’s face.

"She’s just a woman, a woman who clings to you all day. If it were Xia Xue, I could tolerate it, but I won’t allow other women to come near you."

"So you killed her just because she was an eyesore?" Xiao Lin found it amusing.

"Who exactly was she?"

"Quan Xianglin has a vanguard unit, and Xun Xiangxiang is the daughter of the leader of that unit. You killed the last person you should have killed, and I can sell you out to this person. I can also provoke a war between you and Quan Xianglin, while I reap the benefits." Xiao Lin’s simple words in Murong Lengyue’s ears sounded like a formal declaration of war.

"Quan Xianglin?" Murong Lengyue stood up and walked to the window.

"Murong Lengyue, I don’t care who that person is. You’ve been blinded by jealousy. Now you have no choice but to cooperate with me, understand? Otherwise, I’ll have you endlessly spinning in this vortex. Do you know the survival rules of death row? If you don’t want to find out, then obediently cooperate with me."

"You’re threatening me!" Murong Lengyue felt her pride was wounded; her arrogance prevented her from bowing down.

"It doesn’t matter how you think about it. I’m here just to tell you these things. Now the Palermo police are looking for you, and Quan Xianglin won’t give up just because of Quan Mingyuan’s death. He’ll also come for you. I’ll be waiting for your response in Palermo."

"Are you leaving already?"

"There’s nothing here worth staying for."

It wasn’t a person being rejected, but the mood itself. Murong Lengyue couldn’t keep Xiao Lin; she knew it, so she didn’t forcefully try to retain a man who wouldn’t stay.

She didn’t know Xun Xiangxiang’s identity. Xiao Lin had presented her with a dilemma; the problem of death row wasn’t significant to her, but the difficulty lay in...

A week later, a distinguished guest arrived at the Palermo Police Station. Director Meisai rushed back to the office after the meeting and sighed in relief upon seeing the person inside the office.

"Miss Murong, you have kept us in suspense for quite a while, fearing you might receive further harm." Director Meisai spoke courteously.

"The Director fears questions from Quan Xianglin, no doubt!" Murong Lengyue retorted bluntly.

"Yes, Miss Murong, this matter has indeed troubled me deeply. You are the victim; why avoid it? Is there something you can’t speak about?"

Murong Lengyue showed some difficulty; she wanted to speak several times but remained silent. Director Meisai thought for a moment and closed the door. "What happened that day? In my many years of handling cases, this does not appear to be a simple kidnapping case, and Miss Murong is not just a mere victim. There’s no outsider here. You and Quan Mingyuan are conspirators. I don’t know if you and he had exactly the same starting point, but those assassins arranged outside were evidently not there to deal with your Murong Clan. Quan Mingyuan had only one target."

Murong Lengyue regulated her breathing, fixating on Director Meisai. She understood that this person was not an ordinary police station director, maintaining his position within Quan Mingyuan’s influence without any trouble from him, clearly supported by an unshakeable force.

"Which side is Director Meisai on?"

"Haha!" Director Meisai chuckled lightly, and Murong Lengyue didn’t pursue further. Some answers don’t need verbal confirmation; a single expression is enough to understand.

After leaving the police station, Murong Lengyue once again vanished from the land of Palermo. Xiao Lin looked up at the sky, lost in thought for a moment, as Lian slowly approached him, one hand soothingly patting his back.

"I’m fine!" Xiao Lin moved away, and Director Meisai found him later that night, only shaking his head at him. Murong Lengyue ultimately did something regrettable.

"Actually, the outcome isn’t entirely terrible for you. I can understand why Murong Lengyue did it. She’s a strong woman, and your rejection would hurt her, but at least she’s rational and knows what she’s doing."

Xiao Lin wordlessly pursed his lips; Murong Lengyue chose the best narrative to cleanly dissociate herself from the entire affair and clearly sever ties between her, the Xiao Family, and the Quan Family.

Meanwhile, as Murong Lengyue left Palermo, law enforcement reached a surprising conclusion regarding Quan Mingyuan’s case.

Shao Qinyi directly sought out Quan Xianglin after being discharged from the hospital, but Quan Xianglin presented him with an unexpected surprise: a police-issued document.

"What’s your opinion on this?" Quan Xianglin inquired. "Now you can tell me what really happened that night. The inmates didn’t kill Quan Mingyuan, so who actually did it that night?"

Shao Qinyi glanced at the police’s final verdict and shook his head. During his hospital stay, he had no leads or information, nor did he know what Quan Xianglin had done, so he dared not speak.

Any result might be based on Quan Xianglin’s probing, and one wrong word could cost him his life. He also didn’t know what Murong Lengyue had told the police, so he remained silent.

"Hard to speak?"

"No, I just don’t want to recall." Shao Qinyi spoke softly, planning to take a gamble.

"Get to the point, I just want to know who killed him."

"I!"

Shao Qinyi lowered his head, waiting for Quan Xianglin’s anger, but as time passed, what he was waiting for never landed on him.

"Your honesty has saved your life."

"But Young Master Quan wanted to kill Murong Lengyue because he wanted to rape her, and I accidentally injured Young Master Quan while trying to stop him."

"Get up!" Quan Xianglin helped Shao Qinyi to his feet. "I have something more important to entrust to you."

When Xiao Lin saw Shao Qinyi again, he was also surprised by Quan Xianglin’s magnanimity, but soon such surprise was replaced by doubt.

Shao Qinyi showed a strange smile!

"Shao Junwei? This is..."

"The Chairman asked me to bring a message to Young Master Xiao!" Shao Qinyi was a bit embarrassed by Xiao Lin’s gaze, especially under such a silent pressure, making it even more difficult to think normally. His dry throat swallowed, yet he heard the rhythmic tapping of fingernails. "The Chairman wishes to meet with the Family Head of the Xiao Family personally!"

The pitch-black eyes darkened, Xiao Lin remained silent as if he hadn’t heard anything!

"Young Master Xiao, the Chairman..." Shao Qinyi thought he was not someone who couldn’t endure silence, but facing Xiao Lin, he felt a sense of unease!

Suddenly, Xiao Lin coldly snorted and stood up, slowly approaching Shao Qinyi! "Quan Xianglin wants to meet the Family Head of the Xiao Family; he doesn’t need to go through me!"

"Young Master Xiao! This is the best opportunity for a truce between the two families. Chairman Quan has already lost his beloved son; he doesn’t want to engage in unnecessary conflicts anymore! So given the current situation, reconciliation is the best option."

"If I didn’t know you, I might be moved by your sincerity, but unfortunately, I know you too well!" Xiao Lin grinned, his half-smiling expression sending a chilling sensation down Shao Qinyi’s back. "I’m not the one who runs the Xiao Family."

"There is one thing Young Master Xiao can decide." Shao Qinyi suddenly changed his tone, inserting a slight temptation in his words to catch Xiao Lin’s attention.

"Escort the guest out!" However, Xiao Lin remained unappreciative.

Shao Qinyi let out a sigh. "Young Master Xiao, if you refuse me now, you will regret it."

Lian approached from in front, just as Shao Qinyi was walking out of Xiao Lin’s office. As they passed by, Shao Qinyi paused, turned around, and deliberately glanced at Lian again. However, Lian only showed him her back.

Before Shao Qinyi could get into the car after leaving Sin City’s main building, a dark figure flashed behind him and rushed up quickly. Before Shao Qinyi could retaliate, his vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

The dark figure slowly laid Shao Qinyi’s body flat and slid it into a van before driving away.

The phone on the table vibrated, Lian glanced at Xiao Lin and picked up the phone for him. "The goods have been dispatched; we can continue with the plan."

Waiting for Xiao Lin to give further instructions, Lian still received no response. Watching his back, Lian wrapped her arms around him from behind. "It’s still possible to back out now; just let ’Black Crow’ take over."

"Qing Yi and the others have already departed." Xiao Lin was worried, even though Lian’s plan, after repeated deliberations, showed no loopholes, he still felt uneasy.

"You still don’t trust this plan." From Xiao Lin’s hesitation, Lian sensed his resistance. "I told you that you have to trust me, or no matter how good the plan is, it can’t successfully be executed."

"I just feel there’s no need to make it so complicated. Whatever the old man wants, I’ll give it to him. Killing people and wiping everything clean, the results are the same."

"It won’t be the same!" Lian released Xiao Lin, speaking softly while gazing out the window.

"Whatever the old man promised you, you don’t need to follow his arrangements."

The question that he had always been willing to ask, Xiao Lin finally voiced it.

"Lin, I won’t harm you, but with your method, even if consequences arise, it won’t affect you; but I can only tell you, I’m doing this for you."

"I hope so!" Xiao Lin watched Lian through the reflection in the glass, her worried expression making it impossible for him to continue questioning. Lian wouldn’t submit under the old man; she wasn’t an underling. Yet being so blatantly kept in the dark was somewhat disappointing. "The plan won’t change, but you can’t stop me from going to support Qing Yi." (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for it on qidian.com.
