Chapter 1310: Chapter 1287: The Men in Black
Xiao Lin accompanied Xia Xue in patrolling the shops on the floor when suddenly someone patted him on the back. Reacting instinctively, Xiao Lin flipped around, grabbed the wrist from behind, and pulled forward, only to hear a girl crying out. "Xiangxiang?"
Xia Xue bent down to look at the face covered by hair, not quite sure, but the distinctive voice reminded her of that carefree little street girl.
"It’s, it’s me! Brother Xiao, let go of me. My arm’s about to break." The girl cried out while trying to pull her arm back.
Xiao Lin was stunned for a moment and quickly let go of her hand. "Why are you scaring people from behind for no reason? You deserved the scare."
"I just wanted to surprise you. I’ve been here for a while, and finally, today I got to come out and play. Last time at the party, I couldn’t even say a few words." Xun Xiangxiang muttered while rubbing her arm.
"Why are you here?" Xia Xue glanced at Xiao Lin and pulled Xun Xiangxiang aside. "At the party, were you there too?"
"Yes, if it weren’t for Brother Xiao that day, I might have been completely taken advantage of. Those vile guys, I will definitely teach them a good lesson. Just because they’re rich, they think they’re amazing. I’m not a pushover."
Xia Xue was amused by Xun Xiangxiang’s demeanor. "You’re off-topic, my lady. You still haven’t told me how you found us here?"
"Not really. My dad and the others came to check out the place today, and as soon as I got here, I saw you two."
Xiao Lin glanced at Xia Xue, shifting his lips. "So, today there’s an investor surnamed Yuan coming to check the site. I didn’t expect it to be you."
"I don’t share my dad’s surname, so it’s hard for you to guess, right?" Xun Xiangxiang said lightly, though the helplessness on her face was evident.
"Lin, let’s go back!" Xia Xue took Xiao Lin’s hand. "It’s rare to run into Xiangxiang. Let’s have a meal at home and have a nice chat."
"Really?" Xun Xiangxiang jumped up, still reacting like a child. "I went to the United States and had no friends there. It was so lonely by myself."
Xiao Lin shook his head helplessly, following the two women out of the complex. Black Street had now become a proper residential area. Black Doctor moved all his facilities to the eighth floor, simply because he didn’t want to see the two of them getting cozy together.
Along the way, the two women were chattering ahead, while Xiao Lin carried bags, trailing behind. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, his gaze falling to his left.
"Lin, what’s wrong?" When Xia Xue noticed Xiao Lin hadn’t caught up, she turned back and asked.
Was it an illusion? There was indeed a shadow darting out from the left just now. Xiao Lin quickened his pace to come up beside the two girls, deliberately walking on the left side.
Xia Xue curiously examined Xiao Lin. "Is there something wrong?"
"Not sure yet! You and Xiangxiang go inside first. With the latest security system in place, you’ll be safe." Xia Xue nodded, took the eco-bag from Xiao Lin’s hand, and kissed his earlobe. "Be careful yourself."
Xun Xiangxiang tilted her head, sneakily smiling at the two.
Watching them walk away, Xiao Lin slipped into the left side. By the time he reached where the shadow had appeared, there was nothing there, only shallow marks on the dirt. "Marks of soles covered with cloth." Xiao Lin measured on the ground with his hands and looked forward; the footprints disappeared here.
He hurried a few steps forward, circling to the front end of the building. Xia Xue and Xun Xiangxiang walked slowly, still about seven or eight steps away. Xiao Lin noticed similar marks again.
He looked up at the treetops and whistled. A grey shadow swiftly shot out from the building, and Xun Xiangxiang, with sharp eyes, saw it and couldn’t help but shout. Xia Xue frowned as Xiao Lin called out Crow. Was the opponent really tough to handle? "It’s okay, that’s Lin’s pet, it doesn’t bite. Let’s hurry up; Dongzhi is starving."
However, just as Xia Xue was pulling Xun Xiangxiang’s hand, a chilling sensation came from the right side, and a silver gleam flashed in the corner of her eye. Xia Xue quickly pulled Xun Xiangxiang to the ground, avoiding the dagger’s strike. "Quickly, run to the house and leave."
Holding her stomach, Xia Xue urged Xun Xiangxiang not to stand there dazedly. It wasn’t far now. "Xiaoxue, what’s wrong?" Xun Xiangxiang was petrified, watching Xia Xue’s face full of pain, refusing to leave. She dropped everything in her hand, but she didn’t see anyone else around.
"Brother Xiao! Brother Xiao!" Helplessly, she could only call out frantically for Xiao Lin.
The grey shadow swiftly darted in front of Xia Xue, licking her face with its tongue. Crow vigilantly lifted its head, scanning the surroundings, while continuing to use its tongue to rouse Xia Xue. Slowly opening her eyes, the pain in her belly caused her to break into a cold sweat.
Hearing Xun Xiangxiang’s calls, Xiao Lin rushed back to the plaza. Crow was guarding the two, slightly easing his mind. However, when he saw a red mark slowly flowing down from Xia Xue’s calf, his eyes turned red, glimmering with a terrifying light.
With a few swooshes, several black-clad figures simultaneously rushed out from both sides of the building. Their target was singular, and they swung their gleaming short knives relentlessly at the Raven that blocked their path.
Roar! The beastly roar soared to the sky as the Raven swung its front claws forcefully at the first assailant charging towards it, half of its body leaping upward, and swiftly kicked at the man’s chest.
Xun Xiangxiang pulled Xia Xue to her feet, trying to escape into the house. Just then, a black-clad figure emerged from the other side, blocking their path, with only two eyes visible through the mask. "What do you want?" Xun Xiangxiang shouted, not knowing where Xiao Lin had gone; Xia Xue looked hurt.
The black-clad figure didn’t answer Xun Xiangxiang’s question but lifted the blade to smash it down on her head. After kicking down one man, the Raven quickly turned to defend, spun around, and pounced on the black-clad figure. The swift and fierce movement left the latter no time to react, and the Raven tackled him to the ground, locking him in a fierce struggle.
Crack! Xun Xiangxiang screamed as she saw the Raven fiercely bite into the black-clad person’s neck, teeth tearing through the throat, and severing the bone.
The Raven spat out the torn flesh to one side, nudged Xun Xiangxiang’s foot with its head, pushing them towards the house behind them. As more black-clad assailants appeared, the Raven lay flat on the ground, bared its fangs, howled skyward, and charged into the encirclement.
Xun Xiangxiang watched as the Raven wreaked havoc among the black-clad attackers in swift motions. The bloody scent struck her senses, urging her not to delay as she used her shoulder to support Xia Xue’s body and move backward.
In the forest, Xiao Lin hesitated for a moment. The black-clad attackers in the square were merely a prelude; the real protagonists were not among them. He could tell from their feet, the sharp spikes in their hands poised vertically to the ground. With a momentary lapse, he suddenly swung the spike to the right.
With a tearing sound, a piece of fabric fell to the ground. Their movements were too fast for the human eye to see, leaving Xiao Lin reliant only on his ears and heart to judge.
Xun Xiangxiang dragged Xia Xue up a step before collapsing against the door out of exhaustion. It wasn’t clear what she touched, but the house behind them began to wail.
Lao Jiu and Black Doctor exchanged a glance, swiftly darted out of the office, and headed toward Black Street.
"What’s going on? Is it an alarm?" Xun Xiangxiang muttered to herself. "Sister Xiaoxue, the police will be here soon. Let’s hold on!" Xun Xiangxiang wiped the sweat from Xia Xue’s forehead, noting the unchecked blood now staining her skirt. "Oh my god, you..."
"Password 810111." Xia Xue pointed to the code lock on the door, and Xun Xiangxiang reacted quickly to enter the number, hearing a click as the door opened a crack.
Xia Xue supported herself against the wall and pushed Xun Xiangxiang into the room. She followed, stumbling inside.
As she tried to shut the door, a foot was wedged in. A black-clad figure was already upon them. Xun Xiangxiang, frightened, grabbed whatever was nearby and threw it at the figure, while Xia Xue followed by pushing him out. "Don’t let them in!" Xia Xue shouted, though her hands were futile against the intruder, resorting to kicking.
Unexpectedly, after just a few kicks, the attacker grabbed her ankle and started pulling her out.
Ah! Xia Xue screamed, frantically clutching the marble coffee table’s leg, its weight afforded her a brief respite. Xun Xiangxiang seized a fruit knife from the table, stabbing the black-clad figure’s wrist and simultaneously swung the ornament on her right hand at his head.
In pain, the black-clad figure released Xia Xue, who quickly pulled back her foot and used a coat rack to push him out the door.
Click! The door was locked tight, and Xun Xiangxiang thought better to move the sofa to barricade it, finally breathing a sigh of relief. Suddenly, the black-clad figure appeared at the window, sneering coldly at them through the glass. Xun Xiangxiang quickly grabbed Xia Xue’s arm; the door could block him, but how could the glass?
"Sister Xiaoxue, what do we do now?" She pointed outside at the black-clad figure, who seemed ready to break the glass, and asked fearfully.
"Don’t worry! Regular tools won’t break this glass; it’s made from special materials, even a bullet struggles to penetrate." Xia Xue sat on the floor, panting, explaining that after the last assassination attempt, Xiao Lin had specially replaced all entry and exit facilities, rendering them safe inside the house.
Apparently, the black-clad figure realized this and left the window, making the room suddenly fall silent.
When Lao Jiu and Black Doctor arrived at Black Street, Raven was hoarsely roaring at the black-clad men in front of it, corpses scattered on the ground, and Raven itself was stained with blood, with no other people in sight.
Lao Jiu glanced at Black Doctor, promptly drew his Steel Claw, and rushed into the fray. Not seeing Xiao Lin around, Black Doctor wielded the Nepalese Khukuri, ignoring Lao Jiu, directly moving to Raven’s side, letting out a long howl and quickly heading to the front of the building.
Raven saw Lao Jiu already engaged in battle and turned to follow Black Doctor. Opening the door, Raven darted inside, and Black Doctor followed, locking the door after entering.
"Where’s Xiao Lin?" Faced with unmistakable bloodstains, Black Doctor frowned.
"I don’t know!" Xia Xue uttered those three words before collapsing into Black Doctor’s arms. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendation and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please read at m.qidian.com.)
