Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Time to Eat

"It hasn’t gone back yet?" Shi Feng asked in surprise when he saw it. Lin Jingjing usually sent them back immediately after she was done with them. ’Why didn’t she send this one back today?’

Lin Jingjing explained, "It’s not injured, so it doesn’t need to go back and rest."

Injured creatures were sent back immediately to recuperate in the Spiritual World.

Once healed, they could be summoned to fight again.

"Alright, then you should get going," Gu Kaiwen said with a nod. He then glanced at his Star Ring. It was already eleven o’clock. His eyes widened instantly.

"Shit, shit, shit! Get a move on!" Gu Kaiwen suddenly grew anxious. "It’s already eleven o’clock!"

Hearing the time, the others also grew anxious. They hadn’t even started a fire yet!

Feng He handed Mo Xuan a Recovery Potion and then used her own spiritual power to heal him.

Her spiritual power could heal minor wounds, but major ones required a Recovery Potion.

Before long, Mo Xuan’s injuries were almost completely healed.

"Try your leg," Feng He said, pointing. "Does it hurt much?"

Mo Xuan stood up and took a couple of steps. It didn’t hurt at all.

He shook his head. "It’s fine. Doesn’t hurt."

"Good." Feng He nodded and stood up. "Let’s go help them."

With two extra pairs of hands, they quickly got everything ready. By the time Lin Jingjing returned, riding atop the small scorpion, they had already started cooking.

After hopping off the small scorpion, she went to take a look. "You’re done this fast?"

"It’s already eleven o’clock. We had to be," Feng He retorted.

The mention of eleven o’clock made Lin Jingjing anxious too. She cursed, "That damn scorpion! It made us waste so much time!"

The five of them bustled about, and by the time the meal was finally ready, it was half past one.

Seeing the time, all five of them felt a pang of guilt. ’Are the other four teams going to kill us for this?’

"We’ll split up. It’ll be faster," Lin Jingjing said after a moment’s thought, deciding they had to resort to the riskier plan.

She then turned to Mo Xuan. "How are your injuries? Are you good to go?"

Mo Xuan immediately stood up and threw a few punches. "Never better."

"Alright. Shi Feng, you’re with me."

Shi Feng didn’t object this time. He had absolutely no survival skills for the desert, whereas in a forest, he at least had a few.

"Alright."

With the tasks assigned and a rendezvous point set, they split up.

Grabbing their weapons, they headed off toward the other teams.

The four teams had been trekking through the desert for ages, and they were so hungry their stomachs felt pasted to their spines.

Ke Wen of the First Corps clutched his rumbling stomach. "Why haven’t they brought us any food yet?"

"They probably ran into some kind of trouble," their captain, Chu Bufan, chimed in.

They were usually the most punctual, so the delay could only mean one thing: they were in danger.

"I hope they’re safe," Fang Zhiyun said, pressing her palms together. Her lips were dry and chapped, a clear sign of her dehydration.

She started to stick her tongue out to wet her lips, but the girl beside her stopped her.

"Zhiyun, don’t," the girl, Lu Xiaoxing, warned. "You can’t lick them."

"If you’re thirsty, drink some water." She offered her own water bottle, but Fang Zhiyun shook her head. "No, it’s okay. You drink it."

’Water is incredibly precious right now,’ she thought. ’We have to save every drop.’

They hadn’t walked much further when Feng He burst out from the side. She looked disheveled, as if she had just been in a fight.

Her cheeks were smeared with blood. She carried a large backpack and only let out a sigh of relief when she finally saw them.

"Time to eat," she said, walking over and opening her large backpack.

The five of them came over. Seeing her condition, one asked, "Did you run into trouble?"

"Yeah," Feng He said.

On the way here, she’d taken a shortcut to save time but ran into a pack of lizards.

The lizards were blue all over and looked extremely venomous.

And just as she’d suspected, they were. A rattlesnake that passed by was devoured right in front of her.

The sight had terrified Feng He. ’How is that even possible?’

’They ate that snake down to the bone.’

Evading them had cost her some time, leaving her a complete mess. She’d even been bitten on the ankle by one of the blue lizards.

Taking the food containers and seeing the white meat inside, they looked to Feng He. "What kind of meat is this?"

’There shouldn’t be any meat in the desert...’

"Scorpion meat," Feng He answered.

She hadn’t eaten yet either, so she took out her own portion and sat down to eat with them.

"This stuff will make you thirsty if you eat too much, so I’d suggest eating sparingly," Feng He warned before taking a bite. "Of course, if you have plenty of water, feel free to ignore me."

"Got it."

After they finished eating, Feng He pulled five bottles of Nutrient Liquid from her bag and handed them over. "Dinner."

"Also, we won’t be providing breakfast tomorrow," Feng He added.

The five of them were instantly displeased. "Why no breakfast?!"

The one with the strongest reaction was the quiet girl who usually faded into the background. She didn’t say much, but she was powerful, and her greatest passion in life was food.

So, hearing that there would be no breakfast made her extremely unhappy.

"Xiao Chan," Chu Bufan said, but the normally obedient Huang Xiaochan wasn’t listening. She absolutely loved the food their team cooked.

"No. I can’t accept this," Huang Xiaochan said, her face dark. With her buzz cut and black combat uniform, her features were not particularly soft, making her look somewhat boyish.

Feng He explained, "We’re low on water, so we have to conserve it."

"Eating salty, dry food like this in the desert will just make you go through your water supply faster."

Huang Xiaochan slapped her Space Ring. "I’m not worried. I have enough water for a month."

Feng He stared at her, then fell silent.

"I’ll go back and discuss it with them. If they agree, we’ll deliver tomorrow. If not, you’ll have to figure it out yourselves." Feng He didn’t waste any more words, turning and heading for the rendezvous point.

Even though she was barely wearing anything, she felt hotter and hotter. Feng He touched her forehead; it was covered in a thin layer of sweat.

’Good, I can still sweat.’

’If I stop sweating, I’ll need to rehydrate immediately.’

When she got back to the rendezvous point, the others were already waiting.

"Should we keep moving?" Lin Jingjing asked, looking at the others.

"Let’s rest a little longer," said Mo Xuan.

"Fine."

They remained seated in the shade of some rocks, sheltered from the sun hanging high in the sky.

But the surrounding rocks and the sand beneath their feet radiated heat relentlessly.

"It’s still so hot," Shi Feng said, his face looking sickly pale.

"When is it going to be night already?" Shi Feng cried out.

Gu Kaiwen said, "It’ll be freezing at night."

"Shouldn’t it still be hot?"

Lin Jingjing took the opportunity to explain. "The desert air is dry and has little moisture, so it can’t retain heat effectively. Desert regions also have very few clouds, so at night, there’s nothing to trap the heat radiating from the ground. Plus, sand has a low specific heat capacity, which means it heats up and cools down very quickly."
