Slowly Falling into His Love Trap

Chapter 638: Unwilling to Leave the Man Who Would Give Up Everything for Her

  • Next Chapter

Evelyn Morgan looked at Caden Lockwood, sensing the heavy, lingering apology in his tone.

As for his explanation, she couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.

The reason he acted that way, was it merely because... she is a human life?

Did he not have any warmer reasons?

Thinking this, Evelyn’s lips awkwardly curved.

It seemed... her demands were increasing, becoming more greedy.

Seeing Evelyn silent again, Caden couldn’t help but feel disheartened.

Did he do so much for her that it became burdensome and stressful for her?

"Don’t overthink," Caden patted Evelyn’s head, "Focus on recovering. Nothing else matters."

"Are you done with work?" Evelyn quickly asked, "I... have some matters..."

Saying this, Evelyn glanced at the stack of unprocessed documents that Caden had brought back, her gaze dimming again.

She didn’t want to be the woman hindering his progress.

Following Evelyn’s gaze, Caden looked over, knowing what she was worried about, and gently said, "I’m all done."

Evelyn raised her little face, looking at Caden, her amber eyes shining brightly with anticipation and inquiry.

"Those things aren’t urgent," Caden added, dispelling Evelyn’s doubts.

Evelyn immediately nodded, moving to the center of the bed, patting the empty spot beside her as an invitation for Caden to sit down.

Caden’s smile deepened, his black shirt making him appear more handsome and spirited as he climbed onto the bed to sit beside her.

Being closer to Caden lifted Evelyn’s spirits.

After all, he was the man willing to forsake everything for her!

And yet, he brushed it off so casually with just a few words.

Though dissatisfied with his explanation, his actions indeed warmed and comforted her heart.

"Can you tell me, what is your grudge with L?" Evelyn asked softly, "These days, L has been inquiring about my injuries. I can’t determine if he’s a good person, yet it doesn’t feel like he’s a bad one."

She paused before continuing, "He wants to deal with you, but worries about innocent casualties, which is why he warned me again to leave you. So, I can at least know what your grudge is, right?"

Upon hearing L’s name from Evelyn’s lips, Caden instinctively furrowed his brows.

He knew some things can’t be kept hidden forever.

Especially since L is Evelyn’s biological brother.

This family bond, even if L doesn’t confess it now, would surely be revealed at some point.

Once Evelyn and L recognize each other...

Caden shook his head, his face full of bitterness.

He and Evelyn were about to part ways soon; how could he endure until Evelyn and L acknowledge each other?

"You... still won’t tell me?" Evelyn’s face looked a bit unpleasant, as she complained aloud, "You have nothing that you’re willing to tell me!"

"Evelyn." Caden’s voice was very light and gentle, "Some things, if you’re destined to know eventually, I hope you can learn them later."

"Since I’ll know eventually, knowing earlier means I can prepare earlier!" Evelyn disagreed, "And by your expression, it seems like it’s bad news."

"I won’t let you get hurt," Caden assured her firmly.

"That’s not what I’m worried about," Evelyn sighed heavily, then added, "It’s just... a few days ago, L told me something about my brother."
