Seeing Crime Scenes in My Sleep
Chapter 248
Chapter 248: Chapter 242
Jia Sheng trembled as he listened, looking at her on the verge of a breakdown. “What the hell do you want!”
“Nothing much. Just an eye for an eye.” Jiang Li gazed at the knife in her hand, which a master craftsman had just refinished for her. ‘So sharp, so bright.’
Jia Sheng lowered his head, his mind racing. Suddenly, a thought struck him. “You… you’re here to avenge them.”
“Yes and no. I just feel it’s a little unfair. Your group has committed every evil deed imaginable, and in the end, you get to die and be done with it. That’s far too easy.”
Jia Sheng immediately started kowtowing. “I was wrong! Don’t you just want to know about Kun Sha?
I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you everything.”
“But I don’t feel like listening right now. You’d better save your strength for later.” Jiang Li sighed with mock regret as she rose and walked toward Jia Sheng.
After having Yu Huannian bring ropes to string them up, she took out her knife and sliced a gash on each of Jia Sheng’s four limbs, letting the steady dripping sound echo in the room.
The men behind him were so scared they wet themselves.
“I-I-I… it had nothing to do with me! We were just following Jia Sheng’s orders! He was the one who made us do it!”
Jiang Li turned a deaf ear. ‘As if anyone here has clean hands.’
Jia Sheng’s body and soul trembled with fear. For the first time in his life, he was experiencing a fate worse than death.
Jiang Li watched the genuine terror on their faces.
She walked before Jia Sheng again, pressing the tip of her knife against his arm. A bead of blood instantly formed where it touched his skin.
“Savor this. The feeling of a cold blade slicing through your flesh.”
Just hearing her words made Jia Sheng’s scalp crawl. “No, don’t! Please! Jiang Li, I was wrong, I was wrong! I deserve to die a thousand deaths! I’ll plead guilty! I’ll confess!”
Jiang Li watched the blade sink in… slowly…
“AHHHHH!” Jia Sheng’s bloodcurdling scream nearly scared the other men to death.
A sudden thought occurred to Jia Sheng. Just as he was about to bite off his tongue and kill himself, Jiang Li’s voice cut in.
“Go on, bite it. You won’t die even if you bite your tongue clean off.”
Jia Sheng shuddered and instantly abandoned the thought. He looked at Jiang Li, his expression one of utter despair, his pleading voice growing fainter and fainter.
“Spare me… I’m begging you… Pl-please, I beg you…”
Jia Sheng was filled with regret. If he had known that Jiang Li was the real psycho, he never would have provoked her.
They had all been fooled by her appearance. She was nothing like her file described. She was a demon through and through, the King of Hell incarnate!
An unknown amount of time passed. Jia Sheng was left hanging there, unable to die, yet not truly living.
“Speak.”
Jiang Li turned on a voice recorder and looked at Jia Sheng.
“Kun Sha got plastic surgery and a new identity, that’s how he entered the country. He contacted me after the New Year and gave me several vials of poison, telling me to use it on you or someone close to you.
He was also the one who ordered Lu Xingchen’s kidnapping. He said it was a little ‘welcome gift’ for you. AHHHHH!”
Jia Sheng hadn’t even finished speaking when he was cut again. At this rate, he felt he was going to bleed to death.
“Where is he?”
“I don’t know! If I knew, I would have told you right away!”
He was sick with regret. Jiang Li was even more monstrous than Kun Sha.
At least Kun Sha would have given them a quick death.
Jiang Li wiped her knife clean and looked at the men before her. ‘Should I kill them to silence them?’
“No, no, no! We were just brawling amongst ourselves! A brawl! This has nothing to do with you! Nothing at all!”
Having spent so much time with Kun Sha, Jia Sheng had become a master at reading people. He figured going to the police station was better than staying here with her.
“Are you all deaf!?” Jia Sheng snarled through clenched teeth.
“Yes, yes, yes! We were brawling! It was a brawl! We were all just fighting amongst ourselves!”
A chorus of agreement immediately rang out, as if they were afraid that a moment’s delay would make Jiang Li change her mind.
Yu Huannian stepped forward and cut them down. “If you say one word more than you should…”
“We get it, we get it.” Jia Sheng lay in a heap on the floor, struggling to speak.
Jiang Li took one last look at the men’s faces before leaving with Yu Huannian and Miao Anji.
They went straight home. Once they arrived, Jiang Li called Wu Ming.
“Hey, Wu Ming. I’m finished here. Do you need help with anything on your end?”
Wu Ming’s hoarse voice replied, “It’s fine. I’ll be back in a couple of days. Don’t worry.”
Wu Ming hung up and looked at Cao Kun, who was not in good shape.
‘You stubborn old man,’ she thought. ‘So damn clever.’
‘To find him, she’d asked everyone she knew. She’d been one step away from filing a police report and putting up missing-person posters.’
‘And to think he’d just gone back to his old hometown.’
Cao Kun hadn’t expected Wu Ming to find him, and for a moment, his heart was filled with a mix of emotions.
“Look at you… why’d you come all this way? Birth, old age, sickness, and death… it’s all a normal part of life.”
Wu Ming looked at his hair, now half-white. ‘It’s only been a little while… how did it all turn white?’
“What’s normal about it? You’re only in your fifties. You could live for another hundred years.”
Cao Kun coughed a few times. “It’s no big deal. In our line of work, I’ve already lived a long life.
As for that card, I was saving it for you. I didn’t give it to you before because I was afraid you wouldn’t be frugal. But you’re grown up now, so I can rest easy.”
Wu Ming’s eyes reddened as she gripped his hand, her lips trembling. “You stubborn old fool… you damned old fool…”
As she cursed him, Wu Ming couldn’t stop herself from bursting into tears. She was helpless. There was nothing she could do.
But she didn’t want Cao Kun to die.
“Alright, stop crying. I can’t comfort you anymore,” Cao Kun said before coughing again. “It’s dinnertime and all you’re doing is crying. Go and buy me something to eat.”
“Then I’ll go get your favorite, braised chicken.” Wu Ming wiped her tears and left to buy food.
Cao Kun turned his head, watching Wu Ming’s retreating figure, and slowly closed his eyes.
「A dozen or so minutes later.」 Wu Ming returned with the braised chicken, some roast duck, and the old man’s favorite corn liquor.
“I even brought your favorite liquor, so don’t you dare say I don’t treat you well…”
Wu Ming saw Cao Kun’s closed eyes and his hand hanging limply at his side. She froze on the spot.
After a long moment, she placed the food, which had grown cold in her hands, on the table.
“You damned old fool… Even if you had to go… you couldn’t even wait to die on a full stomach.”
Wu Ming dressed herself in mourning clothes, then went out and knocked on her neighbor’s door. She knelt and kowtowed, asking for their help.
“Oh my, this… how could this be so sudden? Old Cao, stop sleeping and get up! We need to help!”
“Er Ya, go tell the other villagers. We’ll head back first.”
“I’m counting on you, Uncle, Auntie.”
Wu Ming went door to door, asking for help. When Cao Kun was alive, he had always been the one to handle the village’s affairs.
