Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce
Chapter 405 - 408: Mind Thrown into Chaos
The old family home was filled with a cozy warmth.
The chef had prepared an exquisite family dinner. Everyone gathered around the table, talking and laughing as they ate.
"Adrian, try this. It’s been your favorite since you were a kid."
"This one too. Adrian loves it."
"And this soup, Adrian loves this soup."
"Move that dish closer to my brother. The doctor said he should eat more light and refreshing food."
Adrian Lancaster truly felt his family’s care and concern, and his heart was deeply moved.
Wren Sutton sat beside him, patiently placing food on his plate and ladling soup for him, taking meticulous care of him.
Adrian Lancaster took one of her hands under the table. "Honey, I can get it myself. You should eat before your food gets cold."
Wren Sutton’s eyes curved into a smile. "Alright. We’ll eat together."
The day flowed by in this warmth, the house filled with the comforting atmosphere of a family reunited.
...
「Night fell.」
In the bedroom, warm yellow sconces cast a soft glow, creating a tranquil and tender atmosphere.
Owen and Nina were asleep, their small bodies curled up under the covers. Their breathing was even, and though it was impossible to know what they were dreaming of, the corners of their mouths were turned up in happy smiles.
"Goodnight, my babies," Wren Sutton whispered before quietly leaving the room.
After washing up, Adrian Lancaster sat on the edge of the bed, dressed in a pair of loose, soft, dark-colored pajamas.
Still recovering from his illness, he was noticeably thinner. The sharp, cold demeanor he once wore in the business world was gone, replaced by a gentle tranquility, along with a hint of unknowing bewilderment and restraint.
Wren Sutton walked over to him, a soft, gentle smile in her eyes.
"The kids are asleep. We should get some rest too."
She reached out naturally, her fingertips brushing over Adrian Lancaster’s shoulder as she adjusted the slightly open collar of his pajamas.
The moment her warm, delicate fingertips touched his skin, Adrian Lancaster went completely rigid, his back instantly tensing.
He instinctively held his breath. The tips of his ears flushed scarlet, the blush spreading all the way to his cheeks and dusting them with a faint crimson hue.
His eyes, usually so calm and deep, were now flustered, too shy to look directly at Wren Sutton, who was standing so close.
He lowered his eyes, his gaze falling to the floor. His heart was pounding against his ribs—THUMP, THUMP, THUMP—like a bashful teenager, unable to handle the slightest flirtation.
...
Wren Sutton took in Adrian Lancaster’s shy, flustered state, and her heart completely melted.
She had almost never seen him blush like this before, but she’d seen it several times recently.
She didn’t call attention to it. Her movements remained gentle and natural as she bent down and took Adrian Lancaster’s wrist.
"Don’t just sit there. It’s late; you need to rest."
As their palms touched, their warmth intertwined.
Adrian Lancaster’s fingers curled slightly. His entire body radiated awkwardness, and his blush deepened.
His throat felt a little tight. He wanted to say something but had no idea how to respond, so he could only let Wren Sutton obediently lead him into bed and help him lie down.
Wren Sutton tucked the corners of the blanket in for Adrian Lancaster, smoothing it from his shoulder down to his waist. Her fingertips would occasionally, and perhaps not so accidentally, brush against the skin at his side.
Every light touch was like a tiny jolt of electricity, sending Adrian Lancaster’s thoughts into disarray and his heart fluttering wildly.
He pressed his lips together, his long lashes trembling slightly. His entire face was flushed a warm red. He was so pure and innocent—nothing like the decisive, commanding Adrian Lancaster of the past who was always in control.
He wanted to inch away, to put a little distance between them, but he was too fond of Wren Sutton’s light, pleasant scent to actually pull away. So he just lay there, stiff as a board.
After covering Adrian Lancaster, Wren Sutton didn’t lie down right away.
She sat on the edge of the bed, turned toward him. Her fingertips brushed aside the stray hairs on his forehead, then gently traced the line of his brow.
"Honey, we’re finally home. It’s nice to be back, isn’t it? So warm and comfortable."
Her warm breath washed over his face, and his senses were filled with Wren Sutton’s scent. Adrian Lancaster’s heart beat faster, and his ears turned a shade redder.
"Yes, it’s good to be home," he replied in a soft voice.
’I’m Wren Sutton’s husband,’ he thought. ’I should be comfortable with this kind of intimacy.’
’But the amnesia made everything feel so new. Faced with my wife’s gentle touch, all I feel is shyness, nervousness, and a helpless, clumsy uncertainty about how to respond.’
The soft light shone down on them.
Wren Sutton’s fingers came to rest on Adrian Lancaster’s temples, massaging them gently.
"Feel good?"
"G-Good..."
Wren Sutton leaned in close, her breath tickling Adrian Lancaster’s ear as she asked, suppressing a laugh, "Are you still feeling shy?"
The warm puff of air against his ear made Adrian Lancaster close his eyes and shudder. He was even trembling slightly.
Seeing his predicament, Wren Sutton stopped teasing him and focused on the massage.
Adrian Lancaster, both nervous and yet greedily enjoying Wren Sutton’s attention, felt his tense body slowly begin to relax under the covers. His breathing evened out.
After a moment, he broke the silence.
"Honey, you’ve had a long day. You don’t have to do this. You should get some sleep."
Wren Sutton stopped. "Alright. No more for today. We’ll continue tomorrow."
With that, she lay down on her side next to Adrian Lancaster, facing him.
They were both under the same blanket.
The room was filled with a tender, warm light, and a pale moon shone outside the window. It was so quiet they could hear each other breathe.
No more words were needed, only the quiet tenderness and sweet affection flowing between them.
Adrian Lancaster was innocent and reserved, but he couldn’t hide his blushing cheeks, his racing heart, or his reliance on Wren Sutton.
Wren Sutton looked at the stiff, reserved, and still slightly shy Adrian Lancaster. The lines of his profile were handsome and soft, his cheeks still tinged with a faint crimson.
A gentle smile bloomed in her heart. She slowly scooted closer, wrapped an arm around his waist, and nestled comfortably into his arms.
The faint, sweet scent of her hair wafted over him as a few strands brushed against his cheek.
Adrian Lancaster felt a jolt as if he’d been struck by lightning. His body went rigid, and he stopped breathing entirely.
His face grew so hot it felt like it was on fire.
The rhythm of his heart dissolved into a frantic, drum-like pounding that made his chest tremble.
He was both nervous and excited, his limbs feeling awkward and out of place. He had no idea what to do with his hands.
The old Adrian Lancaster was used to being in control. In a situation like this, he would have pulled Wren into a tight embrace long ago, possessively and greedily savoring everything about her.
But now...
He lay there stiffly, not daring to move for fear of startling the woman in his arms. Yet he couldn’t suppress the fluttering in his heart. His whole body felt awkward, right down to his curled fingers.
"I feel so safe, sleeping in your arms."
Hearing her words, Adrian Lancaster felt like a boy with his first crush, holding his beloved in his arms.
Nervousness, shyness, and joy all swirled together inside him.
Wren Sutton’s intimate proximity sent his mind into a tailspin, and his Adam’s apple bobbed.
Finally, unable to suppress the affection welling up inside him, he acted on instinct. He carefully raised a hand and hugged Wren Sutton, his grip light for fear of hurting her.
"Holding you... I feel safe, too."
Wren Sutton could clearly feel how tense Adrian Lancaster’s body was. Aware of his newfound bashfulness, she didn’t tease him any further. She simply rested quietly in his arms, her breathing even and soft.
After a long while, Adrian Lancaster’s tense body finally relaxed. He rested his chin on the top of Wren Sutton’s head, the cool tip of his nose brushing against her soft hair.
"Wren..." he began, his voice a low, raspy whisper in the late-night quiet.
"Hmm?" Wren Sutton mumbled in response, not lifting her head, content to bask in the warmth of Adrian Lancaster’s embrace.
Adrian Lancaster looked down, his gaze tender.
"It’s so good to have you here."
The corners of Wren Sutton’s mouth turned up. She tightened her arms around Adrian Lancaster’s firm waist, snuggling even closer.
Adrian Lancaster’s arms tightened in response, enveloping Wren Sutton completely and holding her fast.
Their breaths mingled, and they listened to each other’s heartbeats, tightly embraced as they drifted off into a sweet sleep.
All their tenderness, affection, and cherished feelings melted into the tranquil night.
