Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce

Chapter 393 - 395: She Doesn’t Love You at All

  • Next Chapter

For the next few days, Wren Sutton stayed by Adrian Lancaster’s side, never leaving his hospital room.

Watching his complexion improve day by day, she was incredibly happy. No matter how tired she was, she felt it was all worth it.

One afternoon, as Wren Sutton was adjusting the blankets for Adrian Lancaster, he suddenly took her hand.

"What is it?" Wren Sutton asked with a gentle smile, her eyes soft. "Are you uncomfortable somewhere?"

Adrian Lancaster looked at his wife with heartache and reluctance, his gaze deep and sincere.

"Honey, you should go home and rest. You’ve been here for days. If you keep this up, your body will give out."

Wren Sutton was reluctant to leave. "I’m fine."

She was clearly exhausted, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave Adrian Lancaster’s side.

This made Adrian Lancaster’s heart ache even more.

Though he had amnesia and couldn’t remember the past, he instinctively didn’t want Wren Sutton to suffer the slightest grievance, nor could he bear to see her work herself so hard.

"Honey, listen to me. You’re obviously exhausted; you can’t fool me."

"There are doctors, nurses, and aides at the hospital. They’ll take good care of me, so don’t worry."

"Go home and get a good night’s sleep. By the time you come back, I promise I’ll be recovering even better."

It wasn’t that Adrian Lancaster didn’t want Wren Sutton by his side, but more than his reluctance to part with her, he was pained by her exhaustion and worried about her health.

They looked into each other’s eyes, their gazes filled with an inseparable affection and deep love.

After some gentle back and forth, Wren Sutton finally gave in to Adrian Lancaster and nodded in agreement.

"Alright, I’ll go home and rest. You get some rest too. If anything happens, call me immediately, and I’ll be right here."

Before she left, Wren Sutton repeatedly instructed the aide to take meticulous care of him, stressing that there could be no mistakes.

"Don’t you worry, Mrs. Lancaster. I’ll definitely take good care of Mr. Lancaster."

"Also, don’t let any unrelated people in to visit. It will disturb my husband’s rest."

"Understood," the aide replied.

Wren Sutton took one last, long look at Adrian Lancaster, then left the room, glancing back every few steps.

The moment her figure vanished down the end of the hallway, a spy lurking in a corner of the hospital immediately pulled out a phone and sent a message to Claire Bennett.

The moment Claire Bennett saw the message, the obsession dormant in her heart grew wildly, and a glint appeared in her eyes.

Wren Sutton wasn’t at the hospital, and none of the Lancasters were around. This was a rare opportunity for her to get into the room and see Adrian Lancaster.

’If I miss this chance, there won’t be another.’

Claire Bennett knew full well that visiting Adrian Lancaster at the hospital now was a risky move that could easily expose her.

The Lancaster family was investigating in secret, and her father’s warnings still echoed in her ears. If she were exposed, all her disguises and plans would be ruined.

Logically, she knew she couldn’t go, that she shouldn’t.

But the surging longing and resentment in her heart waged a war, and after several rounds, emotion triumphed over reason.

Claire Bennett could no longer suppress her desire to see Adrian Lancaster.

’I have to go. I must go.’

Claire Bennett immediately went to the mirror and carefully disguised herself.

She applied makeup completely different from her usual style, put on a pair of large sunglasses that covered most of her face, and changed into a high-end designer outfit.

A few days ago, she had tried to visit the hospital but was turned away by Wren Sutton. This time, she couldn’t let the nurses or the aide recognize her.

All she had to do was fool the medical staff and the aide.

As for Adrian Lancaster, he had amnesia anyway. It would be perfectly normal for him not to recognize her, so it wouldn’t arouse anyone’s suspicion.

...

「The hospital.」

Claire Bennett stepped out of the elevator and walked toward the top-floor VIP ward, empty-handed.

When a nurse approached to ask who she was, she offered a perfectly measured smile, appearing completely composed.

"Hello, I’m Adrian Lancaster’s distant cousin. I’ve come specially to visit him. If you could please let me through."

Her expression was natural, and her speech and mannerisms exuded the propriety of a wealthy distant relative. Combined with the sunglasses and makeup, the nurse didn’t suspect a thing.

The nurse didn’t even connect her to the woman Wren Sutton had driven away earlier and let her pass.

Claire Bennett pushed open the door to the hospital room and, using the same story, successfully deceived the aide as well.

Seeing that the visitor was a relative of the Lancaster family, the aide didn’t think twice and tactfully stepped out of the room to wait outside.

Now, only Adrian Lancaster and Claire Bennett were left in the room.

With complicated feelings, Claire Bennett walked to the bedside. Her gaze fell on Adrian Lancaster, and her eyes filled with heartache and endless longing.

This was the first time she had seen him since his accident.

"Cousin, do you remember me?"

Adrian Lancaster frowned, looking at the strange woman before him with a detached gaze. He had no memory of her at all.

"I don’t know you."

"I’m your cousin," Claire Bennett said, unfazed by Adrian Lancaster’s coldness. She continued, "I heard you were out of danger, so I came to see you today."

Adrian Lancaster’s attitude remained indifferent. "I need to rest. Please leave."

Not only did Claire Bennett not leave, she brazenly sat down in the chair by the bed—Wren Sutton’s designated spot.

"Cousin, I’ll only stay for a few minutes. I just want to say a few words, and then I’ll go. I won’t bother you for long."

Adrian Lancaster shot her an impatient look. "Get up and sit somewhere else. That chair is for my wife. No one else can sit there."

Claire Bennett was speechless.

So as not to provoke Adrian Lancaster, she could only reluctantly move to another seat.

Only then did Adrian Lancaster’s expression soften slightly, but his tone was still stiff.

"If you have something to say, say it quickly and then leave. I need to rest."

Claire Bennett hid her disappointment.

Adrian Lancaster was so cold to her; it made her a little sad.

’Once, they had been inseparable. She was the one he cherished most. Now, because of an accident, he’d forgotten everything, and Wren Sutton had taken her place.’

"Cousin, I know you have amnesia now. You’re not clear on many things, and you don’t remember me."

"But I don’t blame you. You were so good to me when we were children. I’ve always remembered that kindness, and I’ll never forget it as long as I live."

Adrian Lancaster remained silent.

"Your wife has been by your side this whole time. Outsiders say that while she seems to be taking meticulous care of you, she’s actually controlling everything. After all, in your current condition, who really knows what she’s truly thinking?"

Claire Bennett deliberately slowed her speech, putting on the air of someone offering well-intentioned advice, unable to bear seeing him kept in the dark.

Adrian Lancaster’s expression was cold. He instinctively felt wary of this cousin who had appeared out of nowhere.

"What do you mean?"

Claire Bennett knew her chance had come.

"Cousin, you have amnesia now, so you don’t remember anything clearly. There are some long-buried matters that no one dares to tell you about, but I can’t bear to see you being deceived like this."

Her tone was sorrowful and restrained, yet every word was like a knife to the heart.

"Everyone in Aston knows that when your wife married you, it was never you she was after, but the Lancaster family’s status and power."

"Without all that prestige, she never would have married you."

Adrian Lancaster’s gaze darkened abruptly, and the air around him grew colder.

Claire Bennett pretended not to notice and continued to add fuel to the fire.

"Your relationship after marriage was always bland, not even harmonious. You seemed respectful to each other in public, but you argued constantly in private. You even tried to get a divorce more than once—you made it all the way to the Civil Affairs Bureau."

"You don’t remember the past, so naturally you don’t remember the old conflicts between you and Wren Sutton. Many things weren’t as peaceful and perfect as they seem to you now."

"Cousin, my heart aches for you. I just don’t want you to be kept in the dark."

"Shut up," Adrian Lancaster snapped, his eyes turning even colder.

Even with his fractured memories, his core clarity remained, and he could hear the deliberate provocation and malice in her words.

"I don’t need you to tell me what kind of person my wife is. I know her better than anyone. You have no right to stand here and pass judgment on my wife."

Claire Bennett’s expression froze. She hadn’t expected the amnesiac Adrian Lancaster to be so protective of Wren Sutton.

Jealousy coiled around her heart like a poisonous vine.

"Cousin, I’m not talking nonsense. You and Wren Sutton really did try to get a divorce. She doesn’t love you at all. She has another man in her heart."

"Your bond was never deep to begin with. Now that you have amnesia and can’t remember the past, how much of her tenderness toward you could possibly be real? She’s just unwilling to lose everything she has now."

Claire Bennett’s tone was light, yet highly inflammatory.

"People weigh the pros and cons, Cousin."

"You’ve forgotten everything, which is why you feel so happy right now. When you regain your memory someday and recall your past estrangement and arguments with her, you’ll only feel pain and disappointment."

"As a relative, I’m telling you the truth. I don’t want to see you trapped by a temporary illusion of tenderness, putting your trust in someone who doesn’t deserve it."

Claire Bennett twisted the facts, her goal to plant seeds of suspicion, estrangement, and doubt in Adrian Lancaster’s heart.

Adrian Lancaster’s thin lips pressed into a tight line, his brow clouded over with frost.

"Get out!"

Claire Bennett knew when to quit while she was ahead. She didn’t dare stay long, afraid of being caught by the Lancasters.

She gazed at Adrian Lancaster for a moment longer, full of longing, suppressing the unvoiced affection and love in her heart. She said nothing more.

She simply left him with a meaningful warning before turning and leaving the room.

Claire Bennett had said so much, but Adrian Lancaster only remembered one sentence.

"She doesn’t love you at all. She has another man in her heart."
