Chapter 89: Chapter 45: Athena Descends, The Origin of the Holy War! (Part 1)

He raised his head to look up at the firmament, praying devoutly in his heart.

"Goddess Athena above, please descend your divine consciousness to take charge of the situation!"

Boom!

A pillar of golden light descended from the sky, completely enveloping Shion’s body within it!

A Cosmo far surpassing that of a Gold Saint transcended space. Shion levitated out of thin air. As the golden light dissipated, a young Jamirian appeared before everyone.

His skin was smooth and pristine, his muscles firm, and his spirit radiant.

With a handsome face, it was astonishingly the old Pope Shion, who had, in an instant, reverted to his absolute peak condition from when he was still the Aries Gold Saint.

What was even more astonishing was that his eyes had turned golden. Countless specks of golden light flickered within them, as if his eyes harbored a vast, boundless universe!

Witnessing Shion’s bizarre transformation and sensing that immense Cosmo...

...none of the many Saints present were unaware of what this meant. This was the Goddess Athena personally descending, using the Pope’s body as her vessel.

One after another, they dropped to one knee and lowered their heads, not daring to make eye contact with Shion.

Inside the Pope’s Hall, before the golden pillar of light had even fully dissipated, Shion gently flicked the wide sleeves of his papal robes and drifted in front of Alex like a feather.

His face was as handsome as a sculpture, yet his golden eyes held not a shred of warmth as he coldly questioned,

"Alex, do you confess your sins?"

Seeing that the main figure had finally descended, Alex didn’t panic in the slightest. He revealed a faint smile and spoke.

"I am unwilling to succeed the position of Pope because I have a question in my heart. If you can resolve this doubt for me, I am willing to take the Pope’s throne."

"Oh? Let me hear it!"

A trace of doubt appeared in Shion’s eyes.

"That night over ten years ago, Aiolos took a baby girl from the Sanctuary..."

Before he could finish his words, Shion’s eyes widened as he suddenly shouted,

"Silence!"

His voice had become androgynous, the stern shout continuously echoing throughout the Pope’s Hall.

Alex clearly remembered that night several years ago. Before Aiolos stepped into the Pope’s Palace, Alex had tried to make him stay.

He had escorted Aiolos out of the Aquarius Temple. The starlight filling the sky reflected on Aiolos’s resolute face.

A trace of an indescribable, unclear emotion appeared in Aiolos’s eyes.

"Are you sure you want to go, Aiolos? This departure might be a permanent farewell."

It was as if Aiolos hadn’t heard Alex’s words. He stared blankly at the statue of Goddess Athena at the peak of the mountain. After a moment, he lowered his head.

"I heard the Goddess’s calling in my dreams. Some things... someone just has to do them!"

That was the last time Alex saw Aiolos. From then on, it became an eternal farewell!

Such a loyal Aiolos ultimately ended up with the reputation of a traitor and died outside the Sanctuary!

This incident was also a major catalyst for Alex taking this step today.

He actually really wanted to confront Athena face-to-face!

Why is it that you, the Goddess of Wisdom and War, couldn’t tolerate a single Sagittarius Gold Saint?

The succession ceremony was the perfect opportunity he had chosen!

If Athena did not give him a satisfactory answer, he would, at all costs, reveal the true cause of Aiolos’s death to the many Gold Saints!

Saori Kido had not yet fully become the true reincarnation of Athena, so her influence over the Gold Saints was still limited.

Once the seed of doubt was planted in their hearts, how many of them could maintain absolute loyalty to Athena would be a huge question mark.
