Chapter 1079: Chapter 167: Troublesome Heavy Snow (Part 7)

The car was inching along the road surface, and Tang Xiaoquan sat inside observing the zombies by the roadside.

Due to the snow accumulation, these beasts were similarly hindered, despite noticing the convoy and wanting to advance, most tripped after just two steps, falling to the ground.

It seems the heavy snow wasn’t exactly as one might have expected. Although it certainly made travel inconvenient for us, it likewise posed a challenge for the zombies.

A blanket of snow was pouring down, and before long, the tops of the four cars were covered with a layer of wet snow.

As time went on, the mood among the survivors grew increasingly heavy.

Why? Because the road conditions indeed left much to worry about.

"At this rate, we might really not be able to go further!" Luo Baochun, having driven for years, understood well the impact of weather.

Wei Dazhuang spat in annoyance, then interrupted over the hand-held radio, "Bah! Can’t you say anything less ominous? What do you mean we can’t go further!? We’ll definitely make it back to the base safely!"

With Wei Dazhuang’s words, Luo Baochun shrugged sheepishly.

He understood the nature of the man in the back car and knew that arguing was pointless, so he calmed his mind, continued to look ahead, and said no more.

Yet, despite Wei Dazhuang’s optimism, the harsh reality was beyond what they had expected.

After driving for about an hour, the convoy finally came to a stop.

"Brother Hu! Why did we stop? Is there something wrong?"

Positioned at the tail end of the convoy, Tang Xiaoquan couldn’t see the situation of the lead truck due to a semi-trailer blocking his view, so he immediately reached out to Hu Xiaodong for inquiry.

"The snow is too heavy right now, making the road indistinguishable, and the snow on the ground has already reached the vehicle’s limits. Apart from the semi-trailer, other vehicles, if moving forward, would likely get stuck."

The situation he most didn’t want to see still occurred, and upon hearing Hu Xiaodong’s words, Tang Xiaoquan hurriedly opened the car door and jumped out to the front.

"Xiaotang! Slow down! Watch out for the zombies!"

The sudden departure of the young man left Wei Dazhuang a bit at a loss, so he promptly stopped his car and followed after him, brandishing a knife.

The commotion behind was clearly heard by Hu Xiaodong through the hand-held radio, and he dared not take it lightly, immediately broadcasting to the whole car: "Everyone, please don’t leave the cars, remain alert and guard against zombie attacks."

In the current situation, visibility was less than two meters, and even within that range, the drifting snowflakes made it hard to discern anything.

So, walking outside under such conditions, danger could descend at any moment; Hu Xiaodong wasn’t willing to have any of his team members meet a mishap due to a blind spot.

Tang Xiaoquan’s impulsive exit was indeed rash, but he wasn’t entirely unprepared.

At least when getting off the car, he didn’t forget to carry a blade, so even if faced with a sudden situation, he would still have a fighting chance.

With difficulty, Tang Xiaoquan reached the front and joined the lead vehicle.

Indeed, as Hu Xiaodong had mentioned, the snow on the ground had already reached past his knees.

"We can’t go any further! Under these conditions, if we continue, we’ll definitely get stuck!" came Hu Xiaodong’s voice from behind, just as Tang Xiaoquan was about to respond, Wei Dazhuang caught up, slapped his forehead, and swore, "Damn it, this damn weather is forcing us into a dead end! Hey, guys, what should we do next?"

Exactly! What should the action team members do? It’s indeed a question.

Hu Xiaodong thought for a moment and firmly said, "We definitely can’t drive any further."

"But if we don’t move forward, what about back home? We don’t know how long this snow will last, and even if it stops, thawing will take time." Wei Dazhuang worried for the brothers at the base, though he didn’t manage the resources, the serious expressions of Wei Yang and Old Zhao when they were reporting before departure told him something.

Nodding, Wei Dazhuang’s question was also what the remaining survivors were concerned about.

Especially Tang Xiaoquan, he was afraid that this stop would never end.

After all, in an apocalypse where zombie outbreaks occur like in movies, it’s not unlikely that this snowstorm could keep going endlessly.

However, for them, it’s fine; with a few vehicles for shelter and the oil, food supplies in the cars, the entire team could stay put for half a year without much issue.

But the dozen or so people at the base couldn’t, the scarcity of supplies wouldn’t let them wait. If the action team couldn’t deliver the supplies in time, only starvation awaited everyone at the base.

"No! We must go back!" Tang Xiaoquan echoed.

Hu Xiaodong heard him and furrowed his brows, "Xiaotang, I understand your concerns, but... but you’ve seen the situation, we..."

Raising his hand, Tang Xiaoquan interrupted Hu Xiaodong’s words, "Brother Hu, the difficult road is a fact, but don’t forget, everyone’s waiting for us to deliver food back home. You know our base’s status, the nearest market is over an hour’s drive away, what will Old Zhao do if we don’t return? Also, Old Xu is still waiting for rescue, and the necessary equipment relies on the ’Zhong’ and ’Guo’ brothers’ inventions, so... we simply can’t wait!"

Sincerely spoken, this was the first time Tang Xiaoquan seemed this unsettled.

He couldn’t help it, for his beloved woman was at the base.

Concern breeds chaos; while Tang Xiaoquan felt as close to Old Zhao and others as family, the feelings a young man in love has for his beloved aren’t easily explained by a few words.

Indeed, Tang Xiaoquan’s words now were somewhat selfish.

Despite how rational it sounded, fundamentally, it was more about his worries for Wei Yang at the base.

Still, Hu Xiaodong and the others didn’t know this; in their eyes, Tang Xiaoquan was worried for the brothers back at the base.

Hu Xiaodong was truly at a loss; logically, the most correct action now seemed to be setting up camp on the spot.

Yet, Tang Xiaoquan’s two points were also matters of urgency that required seizing time.

So it left Hu Xiaodong in a dilemma, unable to decide.

"Stop fretting! I have a way!" a low yet strong voice came from behind, prompting Hu Xiaodong and Tang Xiaoquan to turn around by instinct, seeing Hua Biao walking over with a steel blade in hand.

For some reason, seeing Hua Biao walk on the snow, Tang Xiaoquan felt he seemed to move more easily than himself.

Hu Xiaodong clearly didn’t have the leisure to ponder Hua Biao’s strides; he was most concerned about what to do next.

Since Hua Biao had ideas, it was precisely what Hu Xiaodong most desired.

So, without any hesitation, Hu Xiaodong immediately turned and asked, "Oh, Hua Zi, you have a plan? Quick, quick, tell us, what should we do?"

"It’s simple, we have to go to the base."

"What!?" with a look that couldn’t hide disappointment, Hu Xiaodong had thought Hua Biao could offer some constructive suggestion, but what he heard was still that meaningless "obvious talk."
