Chapter 1078: Chapter 166: Troublesome Heavy Snow (Part 6)

"Oh my God, how long has it been, why is it suddenly snowing so hard?" Luo Baochun rubbed his hands, feeling the chill from the sudden drop in temperature.

"Oh no! If it snows all night, it’ll be quite troublesome for us to hit the road tomorrow!" Hu Xiaodong stroked his chin, showing a worried expression.

Tang Xiaoquan nodded, "If the snow on the roads is severe, we might really not be able to get back."

Upon hearing this, everyone’s mood became heavy.

With the supplies they had, staying outside wasn’t much of a problem.

But what about their families at the base? They didn’t have enough reserves for the winter.

Also, Old Xu was still waiting for them to rescue him, so this unexpected heavy snow really disrupted their plans.

"Nothing we can do; the forces of nature are irresistible. Let’s wait and see later, hoping the heavens will have mercy and stop this damned weather." Waving his hand, Hu Xiaodong beckoned everyone back to the table.

After all, staying at the window won’t change the weather, it’s better to eat and fill their stomachs.

After the meal, Wei Dazhuang, Wang Qiang, and the others went to rest.

Hu Xiaodong and Hua Biao also looked for a place to sleep, given the road trip tomorrow.

At present, only Tang Xiaoquan and Huo Yuankai were at the table, staring at each other.

Tang Xiaoquan was tasked with staying up for the night watch, he couldn’t sleep, and Huo Yuankai was too troubled to sleep.

The awkward atmosphere made Tang Xiaoquan feel he should say something, but Huo Yuankai’s almost expressionless face made Tang Xiaoquan give up the idea.

To avoid the repression, he picked up the tablet left by Hu Xiaodong, planning to watch the surveillance video for some entertainment.

Unfortunately, the bad weather made all the cameras covered in snow, showing no content at all.

Oh dear, what Li Zhong came up with still has flaws, gotta suggest improvements to him when we get back, aim for real all-weather work.

The night passed without a word, and the bored Tang Xiaoquan sat there dumbly with Huo Yuankai through the night.

When the next day dawned, Tang Xiaoquan twisted his stiff neck, walked to the window intending to check the strength of the snow.

The moment he opened the curtain, snowflakes blew in his face, instantly waking his previously dull brain with a chilling jolt.

White, glaring white, everywhere he looked was a vast ocean of white.

The heavy snow was still pouring down, not weakening despite the survivors’ prayers.

Furthermore, the streets were now covered by overnight snow, piling up to nearly half a foot deep.

The situation was not optimistic; seeing this, Tang Xiaoquan hurriedly went inside to wake everyone up.

No need for words; when the Survivor Squad gathered at the window, the snowy scene outside said it all.

No denying, the sprawling snow was extraordinarily beautiful, its purity seemingly washing away all filth and sin.

Placing this in the past, such beauty would have been eagerly anticipated by people.

But now, for the Survivor Squad members in the apocalypse, they had no mood to appreciate this beauty.

"Damn it! This damn weather really snowed all night!" Luo Baochun cursed under his breath, as a seasoned long-distance driver, he detested rainy and snowy weather the most.

"Hu, what do you think? I feel we should hurry and set off, otherwise, with this snow, if we delay any longer, I’m worried..."

Tang Xiaoquan didn’t finish his sentence, but everyone understood the worry in his words.

"Hmm, makes sense, this snow won’t stop anytime soon, and even if it does, waiting for the snow to melt will freeze over the bottom. Let’s hurry and set off, return to the base before the situation further deteriorates."

"That... Huo, over there..." Tang Xiaoquan glanced worriedly in Huo Yuankai’s direction, last night the other party didn’t say a word, which was concerning to Tang Xiaoquan.

"I’ll talk to him. This matter can’t be delayed, if he insists on staying, then there’s nothing we can do." Hu Xiaodong was quite resolute. As an adult, he understood Huo Yuankai’s feelings, but circumstances change, and he had to focus on the bigger picture. Maybe Huo Yuankai was indeed pitiful, but the brothers at the base awaited the supplies he brought back; he couldn’t risk endangering his brothers for an outsider.

It’s a risk he absolutely couldn’t take! With this resolve, Hu Xiaodong quickly walked over to Huo Yuankai.

"Huo!" Straight to the point, given the tight timing, Hu Xiaodong skipped the formalities and went directly to the theme: "It’s snowing heavily outside now, we’re planning to set off immediately back to the base. Our brothers at home are waiting for these supplies to survive, so I wanted to ask your opinion: do you want to come with us?"

Raising his eyebrows to look at Hu Xiaodong, Huo Yuankai appeared somewhat hesitant.

On one hand, he worried if he left, the rescue of the child would fall through.

On the other hand, he feared that if he didn’t come, what if they never return, then the problem with his son would be unsolvable.

But after a brief pondering, Huo Yuankai made a choice.

"Will you come back after going back?" He wrote down this crucial question to him.

Hu Xiaodong nodded, answering with a "will."

Upon hearing this, Huo Yuankai seemed to make up his mind and agreed to return home with the Survivor Squad.

The son ultimately triumphed over the student, Huo Yuankai’s decision made absolute sense.

"Great!" Huo Yuankai gave a definitive answer, saving Hu Xiaodong a lot of persuasion time.

Immediately, he issued instructions, telling the team members to hurry and pack up, everyone to get out and onto the vehicles, then began their journey back.

With twists and turns, the snow on the road caused tremendous inconvenience for everyone’s walking.

Fortunately, the snow barely covered their ankles; although bothersome, it didn’t prevent walking.

With considerable effort, they exited the alley; the four trucks hadn’t moved after being baptized by the snow.

If not stopping the vehicles there earlier, they might really have mistaken the four white rectangles in front as ice sculptures carved by some performance artist.

Sweeping the snow was unavoidable, thankfully it was just one night, the snow hadn’t frozen over, or merely defrosting the glass would have been a painful task for the survivors.

After 10 minutes of busy clearing, the team members finally managed to roughly remove the snow piled on the roofs and glass.

Once done, everyone got on the trucks. The journey back officially began.

Through the trip, no one spoke, nor did anyone admire the roadside snow scenery.

Everyone was vigilant about the road conditions, unavoidable after the apocalypse, the city was in chaos, with many discarded items on the roads from people fleeing.

These items may not look eye-catching, but some are indeed potentially lethal to the vehicle wheels.

In the past, these discarded items were clearly visible, but now covered by snow, everything was hidden by white.

Hence, without extra caution, an accident could easily occur.

In order to avoid these, the survivors had to stay extremely alert to everything around.
