Rotting Land: Survive
Chapter 1069 - 1057
Chapter 1069: Chapter 1057
A two-story residence in the alley, surrounded by low walls. Although not very high, it’s more than sufficient to guard against ordinary Pacers.
Hu Xiaodong glanced around briefly, picked up his phone and instructed, "Huazi, Xiaotang, Dazhuang, Qiangzi, the four of you go up with Brother Huo to check things out. I’ll stay down here with Xiao Luo."
Necessary precautions must be taken. Although all signs suggested Huo Yuankai was a good person, in these times even good people could turn bad.
After all, the Survivors here had two carloads of supplies, and just these items alone would be enough to move any post-apocalyptic survivor.
With Hua Biao and Tang Xiaoquan leading, Hu Xiaodong felt relatively assured.
He believed that even if Huo Yuankai had any ill intentions, with Tang Xiaoquan’s intellect and Hua Biao’s military acumen, they definitely had the capability to escape.
Upon receiving instructions, Hua Biao and his group jumped off the vehicle immediately, while Hu Xiaodong also opened his car door, signaling to Huo Yuankai, "Brother Huo, the vehicles below have people watching them, so I won’t accompany you up."
Nodding slightly, Huo Yuankai evidently didn’t have much thought like Hu Xiaodong; he grabbed his long knife and immediately called out to Wei Dazhuang and his group in the rear.
Over here! Raising his hand forward, Huo Yuankai took the lead as the vanguard.
The alley was deep, winding and intersecting, and without someone inside to lead the way, Tang Xiaoquan was sure that with his poor sense of direction, he would definitely get lost in there.
This indeed was a good place to hide for survival.
Firstly, the intersecting roads could spread out the Zombies.
Secondly, if danger arose, escape routes were multifaceted.
Thirdly, and most importantly, it was hard for ordinary people to find the Survivors here.
Fully attentive, Tang Xiaoquan tried to record the path taken for easy escape in case of an emergency later.
Along the way, Tang Xiaoquan saw many dead bodies sprawled haphazardly on the ground.
Judging from the cut of the wounds, there was no doubt they were by Huo Yuankai’s hand.
This guy is really impressive, being able to clear a stretch of alley of beasts, proving my judgment was right.
While pondering, Tang Xiaoquan had already been led by Huo Yuankai through 4 to 5 twists and turns in the alley.
Just as Tang Xiaoquan was wondering when they would arrive at their destination, Huo Yuankai who had been walking briskly suddenly stopped.
"Are we there?" Seeing Huo Yuankai halt, Hua Biao approached and asked.
Nodding his head, Huo Yuankai wasted no words and resumed walking toward the building.
As expected, inside the building was dark and unlit, the old wall surfaces were peeling; although there was only one corridor, it was still piled full.
After some difficult "climbing," the group finally reached the second floor of the building.
"Knock, knock, knock, knock, knock." Fingers rhythmically tapped the security door.
Three long, two short knocks, Tang Xiaoquan silently noted.
But after this knocking, the expected opening of the door didn’t occur.
After waiting quietly for about ten seconds, Huo Yuankai knocked again, but this time...
"Knock, knock, knock, knock!"
Three short, two long!
Huo, this Huo Yuankai is really cautious, even using double codes.
Sure enough, shortly after Huo Yuankai’s second round of knocks ended, the cat window of the tightly closed security door slowly opened in front of the group.
Hands moving continuously, inside the window, a boy resembling a teenager waved his hand incessantly.
Immediately, Huo Yuankai also started making hand movements.
Seeing this, Tang Xiaoquan immediately understood that the boy inside might be mute, and he and Huo Yuankai were clearly communicating using sign language.
"Brother Huo, what are you talking about?" With a simple smile, Tang Xiaoquan stepped forward beside Huo Yuankai.
Of course, he wasn’t really curious about Huo Yuankai’s conversation with the teenager, he just felt there was some hidden reason why they hadn’t opened the door for so long.
Without answering Tang Xiaoquan, Huo Yuankai’s hand movements grew faster, urging the boy inside, who then opened the door.
Spreading his arms wide, Huo Yuankai made a gesture of invitation.
Seeing this, Tang Xiaoquan hesitated slightly, but ultimately stepped forward and entered.
"You go first!" Hua Biao was also an experienced person, he wouldn’t foolishly rush into the room without knowing the situation.
Though outwardly friendly with Huo Yuankai, Hua Biao subconsciously remained sufficiently vigilant against him.
After letting Huo Yuankai and the boy fully enter the room, Hua Biao asked Wei Dazhuang and Wang Qiang to come in.
Once inside, Hua Biao always stayed close to Huo Yuankai, either intentionally or unintentionally.
This way, if any disturbances occurred in the room, Hua Biao could suppress them immediately.
The small room wasn’t big, more of a compact residence.
The area was at most 60 square meters, but inside, it was cleaned spotlessly.
It was unclear if this was the work of Huo Yuankai and his companions, or if the original owner was like this.
Pulling over a stool, Huo Yuankai signaled everyone to rest.
Finished, he called the boy to prepare some tea.
Since Tang Xiaoquan and the others didn’t understand sign language gestures, they could only stare blankly, waiting quietly for the two to finish their communication.
However, what the Survivor members hadn’t anticipated was that the seemingly simple sign language conversation, for some reason, suddenly made Huo Yuankai become agitated.
Not good! There’s a situation!
Huo Yuankai’s abrupt change caught Tang Xiaoquan’s attention. He subconsciously exchanged a glance with Hua Biao, finding that the latter’s right hand had already reached into his pocket.
What was in the pocket was self-explanatory, and seeing Hua Biao’s action, Tang Xiaoquan’s tense heart slightly eased.
Having witnessed Hua Biao’s spear skill, Tang Xiaoquan believed that with Hua Biao present, no matter what strange events might erupt, with Hua Biao’s skill, the situation could definitely be managed.
"Brother Huo, is there something wrong?" Feigning ignorance, Tang Xiaoquan probed.
Upon hearing, Huo Yuankai turned his body and after some searching, took out the paper and pen that Hu Xiaodong had given him earlier.
This was his only way to communicate with Tang Xiaoquan and the others, so...
With swift strokes, Huo Yuankai’s hand moved quickly, sketching on the white paper.
Once finished, Huo Yuankai slapped his large hand on the paper and pushed it towards the direction of the Survivors.
"I didn’t come back yesterday, two kids went out on their own to forage for food, but after a whole night, they still haven’t returned."
Ah, so that’s why! No wonder Huo Yuankai was so anxious.
Thinking a bit, Tang Xiaoquan wrote with a pen, "Brother Huo, since it has happened, don’t panic. You said two kids went out yesterday to forage, when did they leave?"
"Around 3 p.m."
o’clock... Touching his chin, Tang Xiaoquan was pensive.
"When they left, did they mention where they were going to gather supplies?"
"Not really, but both kids are minors, they couldn’t possibly go too far. Plus, I specifically instructed them before I left, telling them not to wander outside. Alas..."
Writing this, Huo Yuankai sighed heavily, then wearily placed the pen down on the table.
Clearly, he was frustrated by his failure to return last night, thus causing additional trouble.
