Chapter 1062: Chapter 1047: Sounds Through the Wall (4)

Glancing at Hu Chao, who was glaring angrily, Old Xu spat on the floor, then got up from the bed and returned to the wooden door.

Old Xu was unsure if there were still remaining thugs inside, so to be safe, he remained cautious.

He stood against the wall and waited quietly for a moment, sensing no unusual movement outside, then dashed out of the bedroom, heading toward the remaining kitchen and bathroom.

As Old Xu had predicted earlier, both the kitchen and bathroom showed no signs of thug presence.

At this point, the entire thug-occupied residence was thoroughly checked; Hu Chao and his group of five were all killed in Old Xu’s midnight raid.

After killing the thugs, Old Xu let out a heavy sigh.

He walked into the living room, kicked away the dead thug, and then plopped down on a stool.

Taking the moment to rest, Old Xu carefully considered his next actions.

After extensive contemplation, Old Xu felt it was necessary to dispose of a few corpses.

After all, both people in the bedroom were stabbed, blood flowing steadily, potentially attracting zombies outside.

Recalling the thugs’ sudden reanimation at the trapped school incident, Old Xu was worried the remaining Hu Chao and others might also undergo corpse transformation.

So, handling these guys was definitely necessary.

Action at once: that’s Old Xu’s style.

After calming down his breath, he immediately went to the bedroom.

He opened the chest of drawers and found two sheets.

After spreading them, he moved the corpse of the dead thug lying on the bed onto the sheet, wrapped it simply, and wrapped the corpse like a "rice dumpling."

Having secured them, Old Xu quickly opened the window, then hoisted the "human dumpling," and pushed and sent the corpse out of the hut.

The corpse leaving the window sill fell vertically like a solitary autumn leaf, landing on the ground moments later. As expected, when it hit the ground, it immediately stirred a wave among the zombie tide.

The sudden noise tightened Lei Tong’s heartstrings; always alert, he naturally heard the sound of the corpse hitting the ground.

What happened? What’s going on across the way? How is Old Xu now?

Questions surged in Lei Tong’s mind like countless buzzing flies, keeping him uneasy.

Standing up, Lei Tong couldn’t hold back his anxiety. He moved toward the window, trying to spy something through gaps in the curtain.

Sadly, in the dark night, all he could see below were eagerly moving zombie heads, without any other discernible details.

Lei Tong was really getting anxious now; he very much wanted to climb over to check on Old Xu.

But constrained by the current situation, he had to control his emotions and refrain from reckless actions.

After all, zombies were guarding below; reckless action might not only fail to help Old Xu, but could also put his team in danger.

Contrary to Lei Tong’s anxiety, Old Xu was much more composed on his side.

He wasn’t in a hurry to continue his corpse disposal work, fearing the climbers might smell it and come up, which would be a big trouble.

Without disposing of corpses, Old Xu wasn’t idle either. After packaging the remaining stabbed corpse, he returned to the living room.

There were still bodies waiting for him to handle; although the ones in the living room weren’t stabbed, in Old Xu’s eyes, their threat level was no less than those in the bedroom.

After all, if they suddenly reanimated, Old Xu would have to face attacks from three zombies.

Dealing with three zombies isn’t difficult, but if they caused a disturbance, it would be extraordinary.

Using the old method, Old Xu individually wrapped the corpses tightly in sheets, then to ensure they couldn’t break free during reanimation, he specially added cloth straps to each wrapped body.

Once everything was done, Old Xu rested for a while before starting to scour the house for supplies.

Clearly, to Old Xu, nothing was more important than supplies.

Now that the thug danger was dealt with, he just needed to gather more supplies and wait safely for his comrades’ future rescue.

Old Xu was lucky; even though Hu Chao’s gang had already ransacked the house, he still managed to find half a bag of rice and scattered grains like soybeans and oatmeal.

Judging from what he found, the owner of this house was likely a health enthusiast since Old Xu discovered many health-related books.

After finishing his search, Old Xu felt it was about time, so he returned to the bedroom to toss out another corpse.

Following a five-minute frequency, Old Xu spent a full hour to clean out all the corpses in the house.

It’s nearly done; it’s time to go!

Ten minutes after finishing the last corpse, Old Xu gathered his packed bundle, then climbed over the wall and returned to the neighboring room along the path he came from.

"Captain! You’re finally back!" Upon seeing Old Xu’s figure, Lei Tong, who had long been impatiently waiting, jumped off the stool, his stern face appearing somewhat alarming.

Old Xu wasn’t surprised at Lei Tong’s reaction; he unloaded his bundle, patted Lei Tong’s shoulder: "It’s okay, nothing to worry about, just delayed with some things."

"Your face!" Lei Tong pointed out the bloodstains on Old Xu’s face, asking with concern.

"Oh, this!" Wiping his face, Old Xu, having been busy with corpse disposal, had completely overlooked the blood on his face. He laughed and shook his head: "It’s all from those guys, not mine."

"Oh, did you solve everything then?"

"Yeah, all five were dealt with, and the bodies were all tossed below."

"No wonder I kept hearing the zombies getting restless downstairs; turns out the captain was giving them a feast." Now that Old Xu was okay, Lei Tong felt a bit playful.

Having dealt with the thugs, Old Xu was in a good mood, and he agreed: "Ha, a feast was had; just hope they gave us a backdoor when we leave later."

"Haha, as long as the captain asks, I’m sure it’s possible."

"Alright, stop joking around. What I just brought back from next door has water and food; ration it carefully, and it can support us for another week." As he spoke, Old Xu handed his findings to Lei Tong.

Lei Tong lifted the package, immediately feeling the solid weight of substantial supplies inside. He grinned: "Haha, didn’t expect your raid to have unexpected gains, Captain."

Amidst Old Xu’s cheerful banter and their bitter fun, a few blocks away, Hu Xiaodong and some comrades in another brother team were working overtime transporting supplies.

By rights, conducting activities on the midnight streets is extremely dangerous, especially in a ruined city, almost akin to seeking death.

But because of Old Xu’s earlier "feat," most zombies from nearby streets had been drawn away.

So when Hu Xiaodong and Luo Baochun drove over, they were surprised to find the wide street scarcely populated with zombies.
