Chapter 670: Sudden Danger

Third Person’s POV

It had worked.

The human’s consciousness had clearly been disrupted.

Its blades were already almost upon him.

But then—Ethan’s seemingly unstable body suddenly dropped.

He did not fall backward or sideways along the direction of his blade, but down.

His body folded beneath the twin blades with an almost unnatural flexibility, his chest nearly brushing against the ground as the two bone blades swept over him.

The demon’s expression changed.

The glassy look in Ethan’s eyes vanished.

His body, which had appeared completely unstable a moment ago, suddenly became perfectly controlled.

He had deceived it.

Ethan had deliberately allowed his movements to become erratic after sensing something interfere with his consciousness.

Rather than resisting the strange mental attack, he allowed it to seep into the deep silver sea inside his consciousness, fooling the demon into believing that his attack had succeeded since it encountered no resistance.

And he hid his true state until the very last moment, when the demon in front of him would be at his most vulnerable state.

His body remained low to the ground like a hunting beast.

At the same time, the ice mana within his body suddenly erupted.

His hands tightened around the broadsword.

He held the sword’s tip in front of him like a massive pike.

Then his entire body exploded forward.

BOOM!

The force of his charge was tremendous.

The shockwave produced by his sudden acceleration slammed directly into the demon’s body and deflected its twin bone blades outward.

The sheep-headed demon’s eyes widened.

Its chest was completely exposed.

Ethan’s ice broadsword shot forward.

PSSH!

The thick blade pierced directly through the demon’s chest.

The enormous body shuddered violently.

For a brief moment, the demon couldn’t even comprehend what had happened.

Then Ethan’s grinning face appeared directly before its eyes.

There was no fear within those crimson eyes.

Only coldness, anger, and a trace of almost savage amusement.

"You fell for it, idiot!!"

Ethan shouted in savage delight and twisted the broadsword inside.

The ice mana surrounding the weapon erupted inside the demon’s body.

Then Ethan continued driving forward.

His entire body followed the blade like a spear.

The tremendous momentum of his charge completely pierced through the demon’s massive body and sent it flying backward.

BOOM!

The demon smashed through multiple houses, destroying another wave of buildings in its wake.

Blackish-red blood poured from its mouth, and the enormous hole torn through its chest.

Ethan finally emerged from the other side of its body.

He didn’t slow down, as he flicked his broadsword through the air, causing the blood coating its blade to scatter across the frozen ground.

Then he jumped onto the roof of a nearby ruined building.

His body flipped through the air while he calculated his landing point precisely.

The next moment, he descended directly toward the sheep demon, which was struggling to rise while clutching the massive hole in its chest.

Its yellow eyes were filled with disbelief.

It simply couldn’t understand it.

Why hadn’t his Gaze of Terror worked?

It had clearly connected.

It had clearly masked his whole existence in the astral world.

Yet the human had somehow turned its effect against it.

The demon barely had time to process the thought, as a shadow suddenly descended above its head.

Its pupils contracted, but Ethan’s broadsword was already descending.

Whoosh!

The demon’s instincts screamed, and fear finally appeared within its eyes.

It hurriedly tried to raise its remaining bone blade.

But it was too late, because Ethan had already seized the advantage.

The blade was already approaching its neck, with the intent of separating its head from its torso in one full slice.

Ethan was sure that no matter how miraculous this demon was, it wouldn’t be able to reconnect its head or regenerate it, which would finally lead to its slaying.

Yet just before the strike landed—

Danger!

Ethan’s instincts suddenly erupted.

The hairs across his body stood on end, and his spine tingled violently.

Without hesitation, Ethan abandoned his beheading strike.

He forcibly twisted his body while falling, allowing himself to drop lower toward the demon instead.

At the same time, his broadsword swept backward.

Clang!

A blue needle suddenly appeared from seemingly empty space and collided with his blade.

The impact was enormous.

Ethan’s arm trembled from the force, while his body was knocked even farther downward.

His pupils contracted.

That attack had come from somewhere he hadn’t detected.

He landed heavily and immediately rolled across the frozen ground before driving his broadsword deep into the stone beneath him.

BOOM!

Ice mana erupted from his body.

In an instant, a dense forest of sharp ice thorns erupted around him like a hedgehog.

The spikes spread across roughly the radius of four metres, covering every angle around his position.

The sudden eruption forced the hidden attacker to retreat.

Then—

SKREEE!

A strange, monstrous shriek echoed through the ruined city.

Blue blood splashed through the air in the circular thorn domain he had just formed with thorn ripple.

But there was no visible creature.

Seeing this, Ethan’s eyes narrowed.

He didn’t lower his guard.

A second later, the space beside the trembling sheep demon distorted slightly, and a grotesque humanoid creature slowly emerged.

The sheep demon’s eyes were filled with fear as it looked toward the newcomer.

Ethan’s expression also changed.

His brows furrowed deeply.

The creature was unlike anything he had seen before.

It possessed the beak of a heron, yet it was attached to an unnaturally enormous humanoid head.

Its bald, gray head was disproportionately large, with thick veins visibly squirming beneath its stretched skin.

Its body was similarly deformed, with several parts appearing twisted and unnatural.

Yet the most unsettling part was its eyes.

Those gray eyes were completely devoid of the wild bloodlust displayed by the sheep demon.

Instead, they contained a cold and intelligent malice.

Its clawed hand tightly gripped a long bluish-gray needle, while blue blood could be seen pouring from a cut on its arm.

Ethan’s crimson eyes narrowed further as he realized that this fight had just become far more complicated.
