Having said all that, Yun Zijin didn’t send any more messages. After all, it was Qin Sitong’s life to live, and the choice had to be her own.

Whatever her life became after making that choice, she would be the only one to bear the consequences.

However, Yun Zijin would always be Qin Sitong’s strongest supporter. It was safe to say that as long as Yun Zijin was around, no matter what happened in Qin Sitong’s life, she would always have a safety net.

The girls chatted late into the night. Yun Zijin’s head felt heavy and groggy, and she couldn’t even remember how she eventually fell asleep.

In any case, when she finally woke up, it was already early the next morning.

Thankfully, when they had first started chatting, Yun Zijin had already managed to take a shower and remove her makeup. Otherwise, she would have probably had a meltdown upon waking up.

At 7:00 in the morning, Yun Zijin climbed out of bed to wash up and eat breakfast.

She had no classes this morning, but she still needed to go to the sanatorium to give Lu Yunzhou his acupuncture treatment.

Unexpectedly, on the way to the sanatorium, she received a call from Situ Wenze.

Situ Wenze and Situ Yunliang had been quiet for some time, and Yun Zijin had almost thought they’d disappeared from Dijing.

She never expected him to suddenly call her.

Considering that Situ Wenze was, at the very least, a business partner of the Lu Group, Yun Zijin ultimately answered the call.

"Hello..."

Situ Wenze hadn’t expected Yun Zijin to answer, so he was surprised when the call connected.

"This is Situ Wenze."

In case Yun Zijin hadn’t saved his number, Situ Wenze’s first words were to state his identity.

"I know. To what do I owe the pleasure of this sudden call, cousin?"

Yun Zijin and Situ Wenze’s relationship could hardly be called friendly, so... this call from him definitely meant he wanted something.

Hearing Yun Zijin call him ’cousin’, Situ Wenze’s expression turned a bit strange. This was the first time he’d heard her call him that; before, she had always just used his full name.

"Grandma and Grandpa’s plane arrives in Dijing the day after tomorrow. Although you haven’t officially returned to the family, you still have the blood of our Situ family flowing in your veins."

"Regardless, Grandma and Grandpa have done nothing wrong to you. As their granddaughter, you will come with me to the airport to pick them up."

After Situ Wenze finished speaking, Yun Zijin was completely bewildered. "Mr. Situ, did you get kicked in the head by a donkey? Do you really think I’m a pushover?"

"You just said yourself that I haven’t returned to the family, so the task of picking them up shouldn’t fall to me, should it?"

’They have Situ Anyu and Situ Anrui, two perfectly capable people, but they insist I have to go. I really don’t know what they’re thinking.’

"This is an opportunity I’m giving you. Only by gaining Grandma and Grandpa’s approval can you return to the family more smoothly and become a member of the Situ Family!"

"Yun Zijin, don’t be so ungrateful."

Situ Wenze had always felt that Yun Zijin was just holding out because she didn’t feel she was getting enough attention.

He had already revealed the news of their grandparents’ arrival in Hua Country and even gave her the chance to pick them up, yet she was still being this ungrateful.

"Yun Zijin, do you have any idea what it means to win Grandma and Grandpa’s favor?"

’She’s only relevant because she’s my aunt’s daughter,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know who she is.’

"I don’t need to know. Even without the Situ Family, what I have now is more than enough to live a very good life."

"Mr. Situ, what you want isn’t necessarily what I want. As for picking them up, you’d better find someone else. I’m not going."

With that said, Yun Zijin didn’t wait for Situ Wenze to reply and quickly hung up the phone.

Situ Wenze, having been hung up on, stared at the ’Call Ended’ screen on his phone and almost laughed in anger.

Then he looked up at Situ Yunliang, who had been sitting beside him silently the whole time. "Auntie, you saw it yourself. It’s not that I’m unwilling to accept her, it’s that Yun Zijin is unwilling to accept us."

Having been disrespected by Yun Zijin repeatedly, Situ Wenze’s impression of her was getting worse and worse.

"I was the one who was wrong back then. It’s only right that she resents me. If I wasn’t too afraid to call her myself, I wouldn’t have asked you to do it."

Compared to the Xia family’s father and son, Yun Zijin didn’t hate Situ Yunliang that much. It was simply her act of abandonment back then that made Yun Zijin unwilling to acknowledge her as her mother.

"Auntie, I think... since she doesn’t want to acknowledge us, then there’s no need for us to..."

Situ Wenze just felt that Situ Yunliang was being too humble when dealing with Yun Zijin.

’So what if she left her at an orphanage right after she was born? She was the bastard child of a rapist. The fact that Auntie didn’t drown her at birth was already a monumental act of grace.’

Yun Zijin had no idea what Situ Wenze was thinking. If she did, she would have definitely rolled her eyes at him.

"I’m the one who did wrong. She has every right to be resentful. In all of this, she’s the most innocent one."

"No matter how she treats me, she’s justified. I still haven’t married, probably because deep down in my subconscious, I still feel guilty toward her."

Whenever Situ Yunliang thought about how Yun Zijin had always been alone, having to fight with other children in the orphanage for food and clothes, and how even getting an education was a struggle, she felt a piercing, throbbing pain in her heart, as if someone were squeezing it.

"Auntie..."

Situ Wenze wanted to say more to persuade her, but after seeing the look on Situ Yunliang’s face, the words caught in his throat.

"I get it. I’ll just be nicer to her from now on."

Since Situ Yunliang herself didn’t mind, Situ Wenze couldn’t possibly go against her wishes and antagonize Yun Zijin on his own.

"You don’t have to worry about me. If you two really can’t get along, you can just stay out of each other’s way."

"She may be my daughter, but you are my nephew. I won’t favor one over the other."

Although Situ Yunliang wanted Yun Zijin and Situ Wenze to get along peacefully, she didn’t want to force it if they truly couldn’t.

"It’s not that we can’t get along. I just can’t stand seeing her always speaking so harshly to you, Auntie."

There are distinctions between close and distant relations. In his heart, Situ Yunliang was naturally more important than Yun Zijin.

And it was precisely because of this that he and Yun Zijin would end up arguing within ten minutes of seeing each other.

Meanwhile, after hanging up on Situ Wenze, Yun Zijin pursed her lips in disdain.

’I really don’t know what Situ Wenze is thinking,’ she mused. ’I’ve made my reluctance to join the Situ Family perfectly clear, yet he still refuses to give up.’

However, when she thought about what Situ Wenze had just said—that Situ Yunliang’s parents were coming to Hua Country—Yun Zijin pressed her lips together.

When she was a child and longed for family, no one appeared. Now that she was grown up and had her own career, these relatives who were showing up so late seemed optional.

"Miss, we’ve arrived at Lu’s Sanatorium."

From the driver’s seat, Ling Qi’s voice pulled Yun Zijin back from her thoughts.
