Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

Chapter 250: New Immortal Gu

  • Next Chapter

After examining what Zheng Jingshen had left behind, Lin Yan discovered that his earlier understanding had been wrong. Zheng Jingshen had not created the Startling Divinity True Inheritance—he had inherited it. Before encountering this opportunity, he had been an ordinary loose cultivator without the support of a clan or sect. Gathering enough resources for Immortal Ascension had already been difficult, while advancing through Rank Seven required wealth and methods far beyond the reach of most lone cultivators. Zheng Jingshen had risen to Rank Seven because he obtained the Startling Divinity True Inheritance.

Its true creator had been a Rank Eight Wisdom Path great expert from a much earlier era, but Zheng Jingshen had obtained only half of what that expert left behind. The complete inheritance had been divided into two complementary halves: Startling Divinity and Split Divinity. Both were once housed within the same Wisdom Path grotto-heaven, but countless calamities and tribulations eventually tore that world apart. Portions of the inheritance ground fell into Western Desert, while others vanished entirely. Zheng Jingshen found Startling Divinity and spent years searching for Split Divinity, hoping to reunite the two halves, but never succeeded.

"Split Divinity..." Lin Yan’s expression changed as a nearly forgotten piece of Western Desert’s history surfaced in his mind.

Several generations after Zheng Jingshen, the Wan Family had produced a renowned Rank Seven Wisdom Path Gu Immortal known as Old Man Split Divinity. His achievements had been extraordinary, but something went terribly wrong during his later years. He descended into madness and attacked Gu Immortals without distinction, inflicting severe losses even upon the Wan Family. His rampage eventually forced several Western Desert super forces to join hands against him. Yet despite the price they paid, the conflict reached no clear conclusion. Old Man Split Divinity simply disappeared, and the chaos ended as abruptly as it had begun.

Lin Yan had never considered the title particularly meaningful. Now, the connection was impossible to overlook. Zheng Jingshen had found one half of a Rank Eight Wisdom Path inheritance but failed to locate the other. Several generations later, a powerful Wisdom Path Gu Immortal bearing the name Split Divinity rose within Western Desert. Dismissing this as a coincidence would be foolish.

There was another reason for his suspicion. Among the information deliberately preserved by the will of his previous life were the locations of two Wisdom Path true inheritances. One belonged to Zheng Jingshen, while the other belonged to Old Man Split Divinity. Until now, Lin Yan had assumed they had been preserved as alternatives. If one inheritance was destroyed, taken by someone else, or became impossible to obtain after his rebirth, he could pursue the other. However, in his previous life, he had possessed Wisdom Path Grandmaster attainment and spent five hundred years investigating countless secrets. Perhaps he had preserved both locations because they were never separate inheritances, but two halves of the same Rank Eight Wisdom Path inheritance.

Lin Yan did not know how he had deduced the locations of these two inheritances in his previous life, but their value was beyond doubt. Both had been left behind by the powerful Wisdom Path Gu Immortal, and there was now a strong possibility that they were two halves of the same Rank Eight inheritance.

"Tsk, why do so many Western Desert Gu Immortals fall out with their clans and leave their true inheritances elsewhere? Zhen Yuanzi did it, Zheng Jingshen did it, and even Old Man Split Divinity was no different. Once I settle the matter with the Mo Family, I’ll retrieve the Split Divinity True Inheritance as well."

Lin Yan shook his head and continued examining the Startling Divinity True Inheritance. Zheng Jingshen had not created any particularly unique Immortal Gu recipes, but he had accumulated dozens of Wisdom Path recipes throughout his life. Two of them were complete inheritances in their own right, containing the refinement methods for the same Immortal Gu from Rank Six all the way to Rank Eight.

His knowledge of resource management was equally impressive. The inheritance recorded several hundred methods for constructing resource points across many different paths, including large resource points, giant resource points, and even three types of super resource points. Such a vast collection was rare even among the inheritances of peak Rank Seven Gu Immortals.

"This must be related to his identity as a Wisdom Path Gu Immortal. He could earn immortal essence stones by deducing killer moves, Gu formations, and Immortal Gu recipes for others. He could also help other Gu Immortals plan their immortal apertures and construct resource points. No wonder he accumulated knowledge from so many paths."

This was precisely what Lin Yan lacked. Zhen Yuanzi’s true inheritance excelled in Formation Path and contained profound methods for constructing and controlling Gu formations. Startling Divinity True Inheritance was broader, covering Wisdom Path methods, deductions, immortal aperture management, and the construction of resource points. The strengths of the two inheritances complemented each other perfectly.

Startling Divinity True Inheritance was also far richer in Immortal Path killer moves. Most of Zhen Yuanzi’s methods relied upon Gu formations that had to be arranged beforehand, limiting their flexibility during direct combat. Soul Devouring Demon Subduing Formation was currently the only one Lin Yan could deploy quickly with Formation Flag Immortal Gu and use it as a primary combat method. Zheng Jingshen’s killer moves possessed no such restriction.

"Divine Thought, Flash of Brilliance, Unshaken Heart, Flustered Mind, Collective Wisdom, Lightning Thought, Lingering Thought, Threefold Calculation..."

Lin Yan examined the killer moves one after another. They covered deduction, defense, accelerated thinking, emotional manipulation, and several other aspects of Wisdom Path. Rather than being a collection of unrelated killer moves, they supported one another and formed a nearly complete combat and deduction combat system—exactly what he urgently needed.

His attention eventually returned to the two Rank Seven Immortal Gu floating before him. The first was Startling Divinity Immortal Gu, the central Gu of the true inheritance. It resembled a dark and vicious mantis, with two bladed forelimbs folded tightly against its body. The second was Longing Immortal Gu, which Zheng Jingshen had obtained through an unexpected opportunity. It was small and round, resembling a crimson bean. The two complete recipes covering Rank Six through Rank Eight belonged to these two Immortal Gu.
