Chapter 1228: Chapter 1200: Actually, You All Know Each Other (2400+ Monthly Ticket Update)

Reflecting on her own experiences, Qian sighed.

"We actually know very little about natural science now, and as the times progress, perhaps what we call science today might become ignorant superstition in the future. Before chatting with Mr. Qio, I really couldn’t imagine that there are these drugs in the world that can control human nerves, and that they can effectively combine with our expertise—why are you laughing?"

"I’m laughing because you look so beautiful when you’re happy. My wife is pregnant, and everything is going well for her. It’s a good thing."

"Isn’t it? I feel like our child is very fortunate. As soon as she arrived, everything felt smooth." Qian caressed her belly, feeling warmth in her heart. Since getting pregnant, her mood improved, and she didn’t suffer from the discomfort and depression other mothers-to-be experience. It felt like the world opened up when the child came.

Yu Minglang playfully flicked her cute nose, "See, you talk about things you’d rather believe, but don’t you also indulge in saying these auspicious words?"

Qian thought for a moment but wasn’t willing to concede. She proudly tilted her chin and said, "What I said is not just auspicious words, they are facts! With the child’s arrival, everything goes well. My baby is a lucky charm!"

Everyone might be annoyed by misfortunes being spread, but everyone is willing to hear good luck messages.

"Yes, our Da Wei is amazing!"

Being a parent, it’s natural to cherish good words. Qian pretended not to hear him call the child Da Wei again, yet she understood her superstitious mom more. Her intentions were good, but her behavior was indeed ignorant — habits formed over a lifetime, things you just couldn’t explain to her.

Upon returning, Qian’s mom didn’t mention it anymore; she looked much better, enjoying a pleasant conversation with Qio Yu Xuan. It seems Qio Yu Xuan must have given Qian’s mom some "treatment" while they were out, but exactly what happened, only he knew.

Once Qio Yu Xuan left, Qian asked her mom.

"Mom, why do you feel Mr. Qio looks familiar?"

"Huh? Did I say that? He doesn’t look familiar, it’s my first time meeting him." Qian’s mom looked at Qian in confusion, as if she had asked an oddly strange question.

Just as Qian was about to continue, her mom changed the subject, letting the matter rest.

"By the way, was that scribble drawn for you by Liumei’s teacher, that so-called shaman?" Qian asked.

"No, no, I did ask, but Mr Chang said it’s unnecessary, since your soul hasn’t wandered off, he wouldn’t draw it no matter what. Having no other option, I heard about a place where you get it drawn and queued up for you..."

Qian recalled what Liumei said when they played cards. Her teacher, although a Taoist nun, had a broader perspective than most people. A Taoist nun with an aura of supernatural freedom—truly a mysterious person.

Meanwhile, the enigmatic Chang Xiangsi sat in a fancy café in Lishi’s bustling downtown area, sipping cappuccino as she awaited the arrival of an old friend.

The suave Qio Yu Xuan entered, immediately noticing the still charming Chang Xiangsi, who waved at him as he walked over directly.

"Sisi, you are still so young."

"The same goes for you, Qio, you don’t look old either."

"How many years has it been since we saw each other?"

"Counting, it’s been over twenty years. Since that event, we’ve parted ways. I thought you’d never forgive me in this lifetime. It was surprising to receive your call, truly overwhelming." Chang Xiangsi expressed her emotions to Qio Yu Xuan.

"Let’s not bring up the past." Having met Qian today, Qio Yu Xuan felt cheerful, unwilling to revisit those bygone memories.

"Are you here because of that child?"

"Which child? I don’t know what you’re talking about." Qio Yu Xuan picked up his cup, his eyes lowering, revealing nothing.

"Ah... Qio, we grew up together. Even now, do you still want to hide things from me?" Chang Xiangsi sighed. "Chen Xiaoqian, have you met her?"

Upon hearing that name, Qio Yu Xuan placed his cup down, staring at her expressionlessly.

That gaze made Chang Xiangsi uncomfortable, recalling when they ran beneath the trees as children.

Recalling childhood days with sweet innocence, each went their own way.

"Knowing how much she meant to me, why did you lie about her death? I believed you were the one person I could trust, and yet, what did you do?"

Her words were sharp, like a blade piercing Chang Xiangsi’s heart; her distinct fingers tightly gripped the cup, revealing her current mood with white-pressed fingers.

"Our experiment was indeed against natural order, rejected by it. You knew that once exposed, it would place our four families in peril. Had it been only between us, I would have been on your side, but how could one be so selfish? If I hadn’t lied about her death, you’d have stubbornly remained with her. If discovered, both the child’s peace and everyone’s freedom would be lost. Sending her away was merely following nature’s course."

"Nature’s course? Haha, Sisi, studying metaphysics made you lose your wits. I, Qio Yu Xuan, only believe in science and reject the notions of nature. If I wish, I am the natural law."

"In any case, now that I’ve found her, I will not let go. If anyone wants to harm her, they’ll have to go over my dead body—including you." Qio Yu Xuan stated calmly to Chang Xiangsi.

Chang Xiangsi forced a bitter smile, "Do you now even guard against me?"

"Yes."

This single word was enough to express Qio Yu Xuan’s resolve.

Chang Xiangsi sighed heavily, "Fine. I suppose that over these years, you’ve gathered enough strength to confront those people. Whatever I say now reaches deaf ears."

"Yes."

Both fell into silence, Chang Xiangsi gazing across the table at Qio Yu Xuan, while he looked outside the window. The roadside was lined with tall pines, covered in white snow from earlier, standing upright adding a touch of green to the winter, much like the tenacity in Qian’s spirit, refusing to yield to challenges.

Chang Xiangsi stared at him silently, the years lenient towards him and her, sparing them from time’s harshness. Yet beneath serene exteriors, was there not a heart riddled with scars and hurts? All these years’ events stood between them, preventing once-trusted friends from returning to how it was.

"Qio, I’ll return to the mountains. If ever you need me, feel free to seek me out."

Qio Yu Xuan continued looking outside, remaining silent.

Chang Xiangsi waited a while longer before asking.

"You... don’t have anything to say to me?"

Prompted, Qio Yu Xuan turned, looking at her calmly.

"If time could go back, would you still make that choice as before?"
