Return of Black Lotus system:Taming Cheating Male Leads
Chapter 659 --659
Chapter 659: Chapter-659
Heena had barely stepped past the heavy, dragon-carved wooden doors of the Emperor’s hall when the suffocating, heavy aura of the throne room finally broke. She took a deep breath of the crisp, unadulterated evening air of the capital, letting the chill clear her lungs.
Right on cue, a familiar, glowing blue orb phased into existence beside her right shoulder. The System hovered in the air, its digital interface displaying an expression of profound, unadulterated judgment that seemed to physically radiate from its pixelated form.
"Host," the System deadpanned, its voice ringing in her mind like a disappointed bell. "Do you actually know what the concept of shame is?"
Heena didn’t even break her stride. Her custom-forged, silk-stuffed tactical metal kneecaps clicked softly underneath the heavy hem of her dark military gown with every step she took down the pristine white marble stairs.
"If shame can be converted into gold taels, military rations, or political leverage, then we can sit down and talk about it," Heena replied effortlessly, not even bothering to look at the floating orb. "Otherwise, it is a completely useless asset that only hinders efficiency."
"But you are already destined to die in six months!" the System shrieked digitally, its form vibrating as it waved its tiny, pixelated arms in pure, overwhelming frustration. "Why did you make it sound like you were making some grand, heroic, heart-wrenching sacrifice back there? You sounded like a tragic, deeply loyal minister ready to bleed out for the throne and the nation! You literally just emotionally scammed the Emperor of the Great Dynasty!"
Heena let out a dark, highly amused scoff that echoed faintly across the empty imperial courtyard.
"First of all," Heena stated, her voice dripping with cynical pragmatism, "I don’t give a single damn about this nation. My only priority is my family and my army. Second, why on earth would I let a perfectly good, highly manipulative opportunity go to waste? If my timeline is going to crash anyway, I am going to squeeze every single ounce of leverage out of it to protect the Vanguards. If I am going down, I am absolutely taking the entire corrupt civil court down with me."
"But still!" the System argued, completely exasperated by her reckless, suicidal behavior. "Aren’t you worried that the Emperor was just going to order those shadow guards to execute you right then and there? You provoked him to his face!"
Heena paused at the bottom edge of the massive marble palace steps. She turned her head slowly, looking at the glowing blue orb with a gaze of absolute, condescending pity. It was the kind of look a seasoned veteran gives a fresh, terribly naive recruit.
"Are you crazy, or just digitally incompetent?" Heena asked smoothly, crossing her arms over her chest. "Did you seriously not smell the incense burning in that study?"
"Huh?" the System blinked, its processing circuits momentarily stalling as a giant digital question mark appeared on its screen. "Incense? What does that have to do with anything?"
"That damn Emperor had a highly specialized, custom-crafted blend of Imperial Nightshade and crushed white lotus burning in the bronze censer in the corner of the room," Heena explained. Her brilliant, hyper-analytical mind, honed by countless lifetimes of survival and warfare, was already flawlessly dissecting the crime scene she had just walked away from.
"It is a slow-acting, odorless, highly volatile neurotoxin completely masked by the heavy, soothing scent of premium sandalwood," Heena continued, her dark eyes flashing with lethal awareness. "The burn rate was incredibly concentrated. The room was deliberately unventilated."
She raised a single, slender finger, laying out the lethal mathematics for her naive AI companion.
"If I had stayed in that study for just half an hour more, the toxic buildup in my bloodstream would have been enough to induce severe, irreversible hallucinations. It would have driven me completely insane within days. If he summoned me for private meetings for just five more days and I breathed that smoke in? I would ascend to heaven naturally in my sleep, completely leaving his royal hands spotless."
The System’s digital eye widened in sheer, pixelated horror. It suddenly realized how close it had come to an automatic mission failure.
"The shadow guard with the sword against my neck? That was just a theatrical distraction," Heena said, casually adjusting the crisp cuffs of her military gown. "The Emperor wanted me focused on the physical blade so I wouldn’t notice the air I was breathing. The room itself was the executioner’s block."
"But... with your maxed-out combat stats, you could survive a physical ambush, no?" the System stammered, still trying to process the sheer depth of the Emperor’s malice.
Heena let out a dry, cynical laugh as she resumed her walk away from the royal trap, heading toward the towering outer gates of the palace.
"Survive a physical ambush? Sure. I could have slaughtered that shadow guard in three seconds flat," Heena admitted casually. "But System... do you even know how many ’loyal, powerful’ officials die in this palace simply because they forgot to check the air quality?"
She paused, her gaze sweeping over the beautiful, terrifying architecture of the imperial palace.
"They die mysteriously," Heena murmured, her voice dropping into a chilling register.
The System’s expression stiffened.
Heena nodded solemnly, her eyes dark. "Sometimes, the killer is never found. The imperial physicians just shake their heads and write it off as a sudden, tragic illness."
She started walking again, the click of her boots echoing on the cobblestones.
"And sometimes..." She glanced back at the System with a faint, predatory smile. "...the killer is standing right beside you, pretending to be your dearest friend."
The System immediately moved three feet away from her in the air, its digital aura flashing with genuine anxiety. "Why are you looking at me like that?!"
Heena threw her head back and laughed, a bright, clear sound that starkly contrasted with the dark conversation. "See? Even you know this place is inherently dangerous."
Hovering alongside Heena as she strolled out of the heavily guarded imperial gates, the System’s blue digital orb pulsed with a mix of awe and calculating confusion. The guards at the gate bowed deeply to her, terrified of the woman who had just terrorized the civil court, completely unaware that she had just survived a quiet assassination attempt.
"So... wait," the System processed slowly, trying to piece her master plan together. "You mean to tell me that confessing your six-month expiration date to the Emperor won’t actually stop him from trying to kill you?"
Heena let out a sharp, highly amused scoff. "Of course not. I am just telling him not to waste his breath. Or his highly expensive, neurotoxic incense."
The System stared at her. "And you think he is just going to believe you? Just like that? You literally just told the most powerful, paranoid man in the world that you are going to conveniently drop dead. Why wouldn’t he immediately assume it is a trap?"
Heena rolled her eyes, shaking her head at the System’s lack of political imagination.
"That damn bastard wouldn’t even believe his own mother if she rose from the grave and told him the sky was blue," Heena scoffed. "How the hell is he supposed to believe me? I am the warlord who just extorted his most prestigious academy, slapped his civil ministers with a shoe, and blackmailed him to his face. Trust is not exactly our dynamic."
