Return of Black Lotus system:Taming Cheating Male Leads
Chapter 658 --658
Chapter 658: Chapter-658
The Emperor’s fingers tapped rhythmically against the armrest of his mahogany chair. The sharp thud, thud, thud was the only sound in the suffocatingly quiet study.
He looked down at the young general kneeling before him, the heavy imperial aura receding just a fraction of an inch.
"I will not kill you," the Emperor finally stated, his voice carrying the absolute, unyielding weight of a royal decree. "You can live exactly as you are, Vanguard Madam."
But instead of weeping with gratitude for this imperial grace, Heena slowly shook her head.
"No, Your Majesty," Heena replied softly, yet with a terrifying, unshakeable certainty. "My death is absolutely essential."
The Emperor’s rhythmic tapping abruptly stopped. He raised a royal eyebrow, the sheer unpredictability of this woman completely paralyzing his political instincts.
Heena looked up, meeting his gaze with a cold, pragmatic clarity that was entirely devoid of fear.
"Even though the Vanguard family stands strictly neutral and has always supported the throne," Heena explained, her voice steady. "The undeniable truth is that we are accumulating far too much power. My ancestors have bled into the snow for this empire. We are war heroes. Our loyalty is a known, unshakable fact today, and it will never be a lie in this generation."
She paused, letting the immense weight of her family’s terrifying military might hang in the air between them.
"But I cannot speak for our next generations," Heena continued, a shadow passing over her eyes. "What happens if I have a descendant one day, and they decide to support a political faction that should not be supported? What if they lean toward corruption? I cannot control the future, Your Majesty. And truthfully, no single subject’s family should ever possess the amount of authority that ours currently holds."
Heena calmly laid out the grim, inevitable reality of imperial politics for the Emperor:
The Inevitable Suspicion: If the Vanguard power remains unchecked, eventually, the capital will stop seeing them as loyal protectors and start viewing them as a looming, treasonous threat.
The Risk of Usurpation: Ambitious, treacherous men will inevitably try to use the Vanguard name and military might to commit wrongdoings against the throne.
The Final Consolidation: The only way to permanently secure the empire’s stability is to remove the board’s most powerful, dangerous piece.
"After I clean up all this bureaucratic trash and finally leave this world," Heena smiled, a surprisingly serene and genuine expression crossing her battle-hardened face. "It will return the absolute, centralized power back to the Imperial Family, exactly where it belongs."
She pressed her hands to the floor and bowed her head one last time, submitting not to a tyrant, but to the sovereign she had chosen to protect.
"Your Majesty, this loyal subject genuinely believes that you will forge a much better future for this empire," Heena said quietly. "And if my death is the necessary foundation for that better future... then I will gladly die for it."
The Emperor stared at the kneeling girl. She was offering her own life, mapping out the complete destruction of her enemies and her own eventual demise with the casual, breezy tone of someone planning a dinner menu. The heavy, suffocating aura of the imperial study seemed to lighten, replaced by a strange, mutual understanding between two ruthless predators.
"If your grandfather knew about this," the Emperor said calmly, leaning back into his heavy mahogany chair and steepling his fingers, "aren’t you worried that he would beat you to an absolute pulp for offering your life so easily?"
Heena finally smiled—a bright, genuine expression that reached her dark eyes. "Your Majesty, what is happening in this study is strictly between you and me. My grandfather does not need to know about my early retirement plans just yet."
She stood up gracefully, brushing a speck of imaginary dust from her military gown. "And do not worry, Your Majesty. I will never go back on my word. You have my absolute guarantee."
The Emperor studied her, the heavy burden of the crown feeling just a fraction lighter upon his brow. "Six months," he murmured, accepting the timeline. "I see. So... who is currently sitting at the very top of your target list?"
Heena chuckled, her eyes sparkling with malicious, sociopathic mischief. "Come on, Your Majesty," she teased, wagging a finger at the most powerful man in the world. "If I just handed you my entire hit list right now, wouldn’t that completely ruin the suspense? It would be far too boring for you. Just sit back on your golden throne, sip your tea, and enjoy the show slowly."
The Emperor stared at her for a long moment, completely baffled by her audacity, before letting out a profound, exhausted sigh. He waved his hand dismissively toward the heavy oak doors. "Get lost," he grumbled, though the lethal edge was entirely gone from his voice. "Go do whatever it is you want to do."
"As you wish, Your Majesty," Heena smiled brightly. She offered one final, flawless bow, spun on her heel, and walked out of the private study, the heavy doors clicking shut behind her.
The absolute moment the heavy wooden doors sealed the study, the tense, terrifying imperial atmosphere in the room completely evaporated.
From the shadows near the towering bookshelves, the Head Eunuch—who just moments ago had been acting like a trembling, subservient servant—stepped out into the light. His hunched posture instantly straightened, revealing a tall, slender, and remarkably elegant figure. The terrified, submissive expression melted away, replaced by a deep, highly judgmental scowl.
"You absolute idiot," the eunuch, Rorochen, snapped. His voice was entirely devoid of the high-pitched, servile tone he used in public. It was smooth, sharp, and deeply reprimanding. "You just let her go like that? She practically held the morning court hostage, physically assaulted your ministers, and you just waved her off?"
The Emperor rolled his eyes. The terrifying, ruthless sovereign of the Great Dynasty instantly transformed into an exasperated, pouting man.
"Come on, Rorochen," the Emperor whined slightly, slumping back in his chair and rubbing his temples. "How many times do I have to tell you? I am technically the Emperor. At least pretend I am your master when we are alone in the study."
Rorochen crossed his arms over his chest, pinning the Emperor with a lethal, utterly unimpressed side-eye. "Believe me," Rorochen scoffed coldly. "If you actually have the guts to enforce that rule, kill me right now."
The Emperor didn’t call for the shadow guards. He didn’t draw a sword.
Instead, the most powerful man in the world stood up from his desk, closed the distance between them, and wrapped his strong arms directly around the eunuch’s waist. He pulled Rorochen firmly against his chest, burying his face in the crook of the man’s neck with a deep, contented sigh.
"Come on, I don’t dare," the Emperor murmured affectionately, holding him tightly and swaying slightly. "I would never dare, my strict little teacher."
Rorochen’s scowl faltered. A faint, betraying blush dusted his pale cheeks, though he stubbornly huffed and looked away. "You are a fool, Your Majesty."
Meanwhile, completely oblivious to the scandalous imperial romance unfolding in the private study, Heena was calmly descending the massive white marble steps of the palace. The winter sun was shining, the birds were singing, and she had just successfully secured a six-month license to commit absolute political carnage.
With a soft ding, the System materialized in the air beside her. The glowing blue orb floated at her shoulder, its digital interface radiating sheer, unadulterated judgment.
