Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System
Chapter 93: Divorce
"Why?"
Ethan asked, his voice low and calm. He hadn’t expected such a thing from Lucas at all. If he remembered correctly, Lucas had never gotten divorced in his past life. So what had changed?
The answer came immediately.
’Ah... I see.’
Sighing, Lucas explained. "I don’t know what is going through her head, honestly. I’ve been giving her so many things—money, assets, cars, I even bought her a private jet so she wouldn’t feel odd among her friends. Yet she wants to leave the marriage. I don’t understand."
Ethan’s eyes narrowed. "Did she give you a reason?"
"No." Lucas shook his head. "She simply told me over breakfast today. You can imagine how shocked I was."
"Hmm..." Ethan crossed his fingers. "And you didn’t ask her why?"
Feeling grumpy, Lucas answered. "I did, but she didn’t tell me. I had to be in a meeting, so I left after she refused. I’ll ask her when I get back home. If she isn’t asleep yet, that is."
Hearing this, Ethan shook his head. "I think I see the problem."
Instantly, Lucas’s eyes widened. "Really?"
Ethan nodded. "You’re not paying enough attention to her."
Lucas froze, then frowned. "Attention? I don’t think I fully understand."
Knowing this man, Ethan already predicted that he wouldn’t understand.
"When was the last time you watched a movie together?"
Lucas paused and thought about it. "Hmm... that should be during our wedding anniversary three months ago."
"Three months ago..." Ethan closed his eyes and grimaced. "Okay... when was the last time you went out with her? Just for fun."
Lucas hummed. "I can’t remember, but I think we went to a business party together last—"
"Not a business party." Ethan cut in. "A date. Like the one you’d have before you got married."
"Oh." Lucas blinked, rubbing the back of his neck. "Haha, I get what you mean. We haven’t gone on a date this year. I mean, we basically live in the same house so it’s not like we need to meet up once in a while."
Ethan grimaced again, suppressing the urge to knock Lucas on the head. He smacked his lips and stared daggers at Lucas.
"So what specifically do you do with your wife?"
Feeling that something was wrong, Lucas glanced at his secretary. The young lady avoided his gaze. He frowned deeper.
’Why does it feel like Brother Ethan is annoyed with me?’
Regardless, he still had a question to answer. "We have breakfast and dinner together, sometimes she follows me to meetings, and some business parties, too. And of course we play in the room too, hehe."
Ethan gave him the stink eye, then said, "You really deserve the divorce."
Lucas froze, his face turning pale. "What? Brother Ethan, please don’t do this to me! I don’t want to get divorced!"
Ethan’s eyes narrowed. "Why, though? You’d get to spend more time on your business and expand properly. You can even skip breakfast entirely and have lunch with your beautiful secretary."
The woman’s expression darkened. "Sir, I’m married."
Ethan glanced at her in surprise. "You’re married? What does your husband do?"
She frowned, glanced at her boss, then answered. "He’s a novel writer, and he takes care of our kids."
"Oh, I see." Ethan nodded. "That’s perfect then. How about you get a divorce too? So you and Lucas can stop worrying about wasted time at home. You can even eat together in the office and go to meetings together—wait. You do that together already."
He paused, turning to Lucas with a teasing smile. "You can even play in the office, hehe."
The secretary’s face boiled red in shame and anger, but she had no words to say.
Meanwhile, Lucas looked like he was starting to realize something.
"Brother Ethan, I sincerely don’t want to get divorced. What should I do?"
Ethan hummed, reining in his sarcastic self. "Well, for now, this is what you should do. Go back home right after we leave here, and take her to go watch a movie at the cinema. You don’t need to apologize or say anything. Just do that."
Lucas nodded, then asked, "But... will it solve everything?"
Ethan rolled his eyes. "Heck, no. This is just a starter. From now on, you aren’t allowed to leave the house until you’ve had breakfast with her. Also, you must return early enough to meet up with dinner. I don’t care how you want to adjust your schedule, but that’s something you must do if you’re sincere about saving your marriage."
Lucas’s lips twitched. "This... will be difficult."
Ethan shot him a glare. "You can adjust your schedule, Lucas. You are the leader of your company. You set the schedule, not the other way around."
The man nodded with a sigh. "Alright, I understand that."
"Good." Ethan smiled. "Next, you are to go out with her occasionally. Shopping for groceries, buying her clothes, changing her wardrobe, or whatever you rich people do."
Lucas’s eyes widened. ’Holy larp! You’re talking as if you’re not rich!’
Ignoring his expression, Ethan continued. "All in all, balance your time with her and don’t make her feel neglected."
He paused, turning to the secretary.
"You too. You better start paying more attention to your husband if you don’t want your husband to start accusing Lucas of stealing his wife. Or... one of his yandere female readers could lure him away and make you a widow."
The woman’s face remained dark, but she still nodded. After all, what Ethan had just said was true.
’Still... to be lectured by someone of my age...’
Ethan turned back to Lucas, his expression softening. "I know how easy it is to get lost in business and ignore other parts of your life. Don’t let that break your marriage."
Lucas nodded. "Thank you, Brother Ethan. I will do as you have told me."
Ethan nodded. "By the way, let’s eat before these dishes get cold. I have to get back to my wife before an hour."
Lucas smiled faintly and nodded. ’I think I understand Brother Ethan now. He values his family above all things. No wonder he was unwilling to work for me and would rather sit at his wife’s shop all day. Haa...’
Regardless, he had learnt a lesson.
