Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 757: He Doesn’t Know She Has the Virus?
Chapter 757: Chapter 757: He Doesn’t Know She Has the Virus?
Leona Grant leaned down and kissed her lips.
Tears streamed down Annabelle Linton’s face as she felt his kiss. ’How many more kisses like this will we have?’
At that thought, Annabelle Linton’s tears fell even more furiously.
Leona Grant had only meant to kiss her gently, to offer some comfort, but he never expected her to start crying even harder. He felt a wave of helplessness.
Wiping away her tears, he sighed and said, "Don’t worry. I’ll keep the promises I made to you, even if it costs me my life. Please, stop crying, alright?"
Seeing her tears continue to fall unabated, he wiped them away helplessly and said, "You never cry, not even when you’re hurt or bleeding. What’s wrong with you now? Are you trying to use up a lifetime’s worth of tears all at once?"
Annabelle Linton choked out, "Leona Grant, do you have any idea how serious this virus is? It’s a new strain, the kind with absolutely no incubation period. It races against the clock, attacking and destroying all the body’s functions, organs, and cells. From infection to the full onset of the disease is four months at most. Those four months will be a living hell. How do you expect me to be calm?"
’Four months, with no incubation period?’
Leona Grant was clearly stunned, too.
’How could such a terrifying virus exist?’
’A new virus... It would take time to research a new virus.’
’The research time was unpredictable. It could take a few days, or it could take years, and even then a cure might not be found. A cure might be impossible altogether.’
’But for a virus that takes full effect in only four months, it was highly unlikely a cure could be developed in time.’
’Besides, any potential treatment almost certainly wouldn’t be successful on the first try...’
’No wonder Annabelle Linton was so utterly distraught.’
Leona Grant’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he gazed deeply at her.
His deep gaze met her eyes, which were hazy with tears and filled with worry and reluctance. An unexpected pang of sorrow struck Leona Grant’s heart.
’To think that, faced with the possibility of death, she was the one person in this world he couldn’t bear to leave behind.’
Leona Grant watched her for a moment with a somber expression, then pulled her into his arms. "Annabelle Linton," he said in a heavy voice, "I will keep my promises to you. Don’t worry. I’ll be with you forever. I’m not going to die. But before that happens, you must take good care of yourself every day. Don’t get hurt again, understand?"
"Between the two of us, no matter what illness I have, you have to remember that I’m the man. I’ll be fine, no matter what.
But you’re a woman—you’re younger than me, not as strong, and your constitution isn’t as good as mine. So you have to take good care of yourself, understand?"
He gave her a gentle kiss and said earnestly, "It’s okay if something happens to me, but not to you. If you were to get hurt, my health would be meaningless. I’d follow you wherever you go. You’re holding both of our lives in your hands. If one body falls, two lives are lost. So, I’m only okay if you’re okay. You have to cherish yourself, do you understand?"
Hearing this, Annabelle Linton’s mind went blank.
’What did he mean by, "It’s okay if something happens to me, but not to you"?’
’I have the virus too...’
As Annabelle Linton mulled it over, her eyes widened in realization.
’...After listening to Leona Grant for so long, she realized... he hadn’t said a word about her own infection.’
’This man would get frantic over a little scrape on her knee, yet now that she was poisoned, he hadn’t said a single word about it.’
Annabelle Linton remembered what he had said before: he was only suspicious, and yesterday he had just been trying to bait Vivian Yates.
’And Vivian Yates... thinking back to their conversation yesterday, she didn’t seem to have mentioned Annabelle’s infection, either.’
’Did that mean... he didn’t know she had the virus, too?’
