Chapter 740: Chapter 739: Discovering the Conspiracy 1

He wouldn’t believe it. He couldn’t possibly believe it.

Leona Grant watched her, his gaze unwavering and his face devoid of expression. "Annabelle Linton, your eyes can’t lie. I’ve clearly seen the love for me in them. That’s something that can never change. You’re hiding something, aren’t you?"

"You don’t have to tell me what it is, but please, don’t use lies like this to make me leave. Is there anything we can’t face together? I love you so much I would die for you. If you asked, I would tear my heart out for you right this second. But hearing you say these things hurts more than if you actually did."

"Annabelle Linton, I told you a long time ago that I can’t live without you. I’ll die, I’ll go crazy. Isn’t that enough to make you tell me everything so we can face it together? Take back what you just said. Come home with me. Whatever it is, we’ll solve it together, okay?"

His last word, "okay?", was practically a plea.

When someone is wronged, the hurt stings their eyes.

’Leona Grant was right. The eyes can’t lie.’

’Falling in love with someone is hard, but giving up the one you love is even harder.’

Annabelle Linton looked at him, her heart feeling as if it were being carved out piece by piece. She stubbornly pursed her lips, but tears streamed down her face against her will.

"You’re crying. Why are you crying?"

Leona Grant walked over and pulled her into a hug. He lowered his head and murmured, "Is it because you’re hurting so much over something you can’t tell me?"

"I understand. Let me take you home, alright? You can tell me everything in your own time. Whatever it is, we’ll face it and solve it together."

As Annabelle Linton breathed in his scent, the pain in her heart grew even more excruciating.

’She wanted to abandon everything and tell him the truth. She wanted to face it with him, to solve it with him, to live or die by his side.’

’But three months was just too short. Far too short.’

’The complications from the virus were already starting. With no cure or even medication to manage it, the disease would run its course over the next three months. That meant she would spend at least fifty of those days in agonizing pain.’

’Bleeding from every orifice... her heart rupturing... ’

’How could any normal person be expected to watch that?’

’Hah. Leona Grant couldn’t handle that. At least, she wouldn’t let him watch it happen. Not on her watch.’

Annabelle Linton swiped the tears away with the back of her hand in one cool motion. She shoved him away decisively and forced a smile. "Your imagination is truly astounding. I’m sure even film directors and producers would have to admit you’re their superior. But Leona Grant, I really don’t have time to play games with you anymore..."

As she spoke, Annabelle Linton walked over to Aaron Wyatt, straightened his collar, and took his hand. "I know this is a low blow, but I’m sorry. I want to live my own life now, and I just don’t have time to play around with you anymore. In a way, this is for your own good."

"There’s no need to look for another reason. I’m really in love with Aaron Wyatt. Why else would we have gotten married? Oh, right, didn’t I tell you everything on our engagement day? I only ever saw you as a toy, something to show off. I never loved you. But you’re so damn stubborn, you refuse to get it. What am I supposed to do?"

"Since it’s come to this, let’s just lay our cards on the table. Let’s get a divorce. It’s for the best. There’s no happiness in being with someone who doesn’t love you. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, you know? Forget about me. Go find someone you like—someone who likes you back—and build a good life with them. I’m not the one for you."
