Chapter 732: Chapter 733: From Now On, How About I Bathe You Every Day?

She pretended to struggle a few times.

She knew Leona Grant wouldn’t let her go. Sure enough, he held her even tighter, his kiss turning fierce.

He gripped both of her hands tightly, pressing them against his chest.

Annabelle Linton passively accepted his kiss, which lasted for a long, long time.

When the kiss ended, Leona Grant held her tightly. Annabelle Linton rested her head on his shoulder, breathless, her face pressed against his neck, feeling the scorching heat of his body.

Smelling the strong scent of medicine on him, she thought of the virus, of the few days she had left, of their inevitable separation. As she lay her head on his shoulder, she only felt colder.

Annabelle Linton listlessly closed her eyes.

"Annabelle Linton, you can’t leave. I won’t allow you to leave me. Do you hear me?"

Leona Grant cupped her face with one hand, vowing, "I’ve thought this over and over, and other than the ways I’ve hurt you in the past, I can’t think of any other reason why you’d be so determined to leave me. So, I promise you right here, right now, that I will never let you get hurt again. I won’t let you suffer even the slightest bit. Trust me, okay?"

Listening to his almost pleading tone, Annabelle Linton felt tears inexplicably begin to fall.

She wiped away her tears and said with a smile, "Each one was a nail."

’That used to be the reason, but not anymore.’

Annabelle Linton said with a smile, "They left their marks on my heart, one by one. The best you can do is pull out the nails, but the holes will always remain. They’ll never disappear."

’It’s true they can’t disappear, but that has nothing to do with him.’

Leona Grant stared at her for a long moment, his eyes bloodshot. Then he said, "Fine, then. If they can’t disappear, they can’t disappear."

Annabelle Linton was stunned—

Leona Grant caressed her cheek and gave her a light kiss. His lips brushed against her skin as he leaned in close to her ear, a cold, demonic smile on his face. "Just keeping you with me is enough," he whispered. "As for your heart... I won’t be greedy. If I can’t have it, then I don’t want it. One has to learn to be content."

Annabelle Linton looked at him and suddenly felt the urge to cry.

’To think that Leona Grant, who was once so proud and aloof, would actually lower himself to this extent for her.’

’Was this what it meant for him to lower himself? Was there anything Leona Grant wanted that he couldn’t have? Why would he stoop to forcing a woman to stay with him?’

’She was genuinely touched by his devotion, but why couldn’t they ever say what they truly meant?’

The rims of Annabelle Linton’s eyes reddened as she looked back at him, her expression complex.

When Leona Grant saw the profound sorrow and anguish in the depths of her eyes, his heart jolted.

’Is she this upset because I won’t let her go?’

’But I truly can’t let her go.’

Leona Grant picked her up and started toward the bathroom. "Give up, Annabelle Linton," he said flatly. "As long as I’m not dead, you can forget about leaving."

How was Annabelle Linton supposed to feel?

He carried her into the bathroom, undressed her, and began to bathe her.

Annabelle Linton sighed. "You can leave," she said. "I’ll do it myself."

But Leona Grant simply rolled up his sleeves and continued to wash her.

Annabelle Linton lay unresponsive in the bathtub.

Afterward, he dried her body and her hair, then said with a smile, "How about I bathe you every day from now on?"

Annabelle Linton stared at him expressionlessly.

Leona Grant just smiled again and laid her down on the bed. "I’m going to bathe you for the rest of our lives."

—

From being out in the cold wind and smoking earlier, Leona Grant began coughing nonstop in the middle of the night. His fever had gotten worse.

In a panic, Annabelle Linton called for an ambulance. Leona Grant was admitted to the hospital.
