Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 728: Go Check on the Young Master...
Chapter 728: Chapter 728: Go Check on the Young Master...
Leona Grant scoffed, then reached out and stripped off her clothes. He took everything off, not even leaving her underwear.
Then he took off his own clothes and thrust into her forcefully. His eyes were unfocused as he said, "Stop dreaming. The only way I’ll let you go is if I die."
Annabelle Linton wept but said nothing in reply.
Leona Grant kept at it until the middle of the night. By the time he stopped, Annabelle Linton had long since passed out.
She had been silent the whole time, enduring it, suppressing everything.
He gazed deeply at her. ’I wish this was all just a joke,’ he thought, ’that there was a reason for all of this.’
But that seemed laughable. ’The price of self-deception is just self-inflicted humiliation, isn’t it?’
He couldn’t find a single reason for her change of heart.
Leona Grant lowered his gaze and kissed her, just like he always had. He held her as he bathed her, washing every inch of her body and kissing the frown from between her brows until it smoothed away.
’No matter what, he still loved her.’
’There was no one else in the world who could make him so obsessed, who could make him love to the point of abandoning his own dignity.’
’But how long could a love like this last?’
Leona Grant stood on the balcony, letting the wind blow against him.
The autumn wind was bone-chilling. It blew his bathrobe open, but he remained completely oblivious...
...
When Annabelle Linton woke up the next day, she found herself lying in Leona Grant’s arms.
It wasn’t their usual position with her leg thrown over his; instead, he was pressing down on her.
He was holding her very, very tightly, her face pressed firmly against his chest.
It was as if to say he would never let her leave.
"Annabelle Linton, don’t go..."
The sleeping Leona Grant suddenly let out a murmur.
Annabelle Linton’s eyes reddened in an instant, and she reached out a hand, her heart aching, to stroke his face.
But in the next second, her expression changed—
’His face is burning up!’
As a doctor, Annabelle Linton immediately knew what was happening. She placed her hand on his forehead. He was definitely running a fever!
A simple fever wouldn’t normally make her this panicked, but Annabelle Linton wasn’t sure if it was just a regular fever or a flare-up of the virus.
’It can’t be the virus, right? He already took the suppressant medication.’
Annabelle Linton coughed a few times and hurried downstairs to rummage through the medicine cabinet for him.
After finding it, she quickly fed him two pills. Leona Grant wasn’t very conscious and just swallowed them in a daze.
Annabelle Linton then used a cool towel to try and bring his temperature down.
An hour later, he hadn’t improved much. If anything, he was worse.
Annabelle Linton was so anxious her heart felt like it was about to leap out of her chest. She rushed downstairs to get a maid to wake Leona Grant.
She couldn’t be the one to call him; doing so would expose her.
But it was no use. Leona Grant, agitated, threw something and drove the maid out of the room.
The butler was pacing anxiously, muttering to himself, "What are we going to do? What are we going to do?"
Seeing Annabelle Linton sitting there looking completely lost, he had no choice but to go and plead with her. "Young Madam, no matter what disagreement you and the Young Master have been having, please don’t be difficult at a time like this, alright? You’re a doctor, so please go take a look at the Young Master. He’s seriously ill this time, and he refuses to see anyone else. If this continues, I’m afraid the fever will damage his brain."
Annabelle Linton was also frantic with worry, but she didn’t dare go.
The butler knew the two of them had been fighting the last couple of days. He wasn’t sure of the reason, only that Annabelle Linton wanted a divorce.
’The Young Master must have been acting up again...’
It couldn’t be helped. For some deep-seated reason, whenever the two of them argued, everyone just assumed it was Leona Grant’s fault.
’A man shouldn’t dig his own grave...’
Seeing the Young Madam looking worried sick yet stubbornly refusing to go, the butler assumed she was just too proud to make the first move.
