Chapter 709: Eating the Cake
Chapter 709: Chapter 709: Eating the Cake
"Mmm, yummy."
The two children ate happily, nodding vigorously. "Miss, would you like to have some too?"
They rarely got to eat something so delicious, so it tasted especially good.
"Thank you, you sweet little things. I won’t have any, you go ahead and eat." The staff member crouched in front of them, watching them eat.
After a moment, she asked again, "Do you know who sent these for you?"
The children answered honestly, "Annabelle and Grant."
The staff member smiled and nodded, asking kindly, "And what should you do when someone gives you something to eat?"
A child replied, "Say thank you."
The staff member looked at them approvingly and gave each of the two children a delicate piece of candy. It was beautifully wrapped, and you could tell at a glance that it was very expensive.
Seeing the candy, the children’s faces lit up with joy. They said politely, "Thank you, Miss."
"You’re very welcome."
As she spoke, the staff member gently patted their little heads and said softly, "I gave you candy, and you knew to say thank you. So, since Annabelle and Grant gave you all this cake, threw you this birthday party, and brought you so many gifts, don’t you think you should say thank you to them as well?"
It dawned on the two children. "You’re right."
The staff member laughed, handing each of them a piece of cake. "Then go thank them right now," she said. "Each of you, bring them a piece of cake and make sure you say thank you. That’s how you be good little kids. After you give it to them, come back to me, and I’ll reward you with a toy."
"Yay! We get to play with new toys! We get to play with new toys!"
With that, the two children each took a piece of cake and brought them over to Grant and Annabelle.
Grant and Annabelle were sitting together, watching the children’s performances.
As they were watching, the two children from before walked over, each holding a piece of cake.
The little girl held the cake out to Annabelle and said sweetly, "Annabelle, this cake is for you. It’s really yummy! Thank you for bringing us such delicious cake today. This is the best birthday Mia has ever had."
Annabelle smiled and patted her on the head, saying gently, "I know you’re always a good, obedient girl. You eat the cake; I don’t need any."
"No, no! This is to thank you, Annabelle. Thank you for bringing us such yummy pastries. You have to eat it, Annabelle. This is a token of Mia’s appreciation."
Annabelle gave a helpless smile. Unable to refuse her, she took a bite.
The little boy walked up to Grant and also handed him a piece of cake. "Thank you for the gifts, Uncle Grant. And thank you for celebrating our birthday with us. We’re very happy. Please, you have to accept the cake, Uncle, or Dandan will be very sad."
Grant also ate the cake, unable to refuse.
Behind a tree, Vivian Yates watched them both eat the cake. A twisted, crazed smile spread across her lips as she let out a triumphant laugh.
’Annabelle Linton, if I don’t finish you off this time, then I, Vivian Yates, don’t deserve to be called human.’
—
Time passed quickly, and before long, it was afternoon.
The children’s birthday party was more than halfway over.
Annabelle was standing in an open space, playing "drop the handkerchief" with the children.
