Chapter 484: Warden's Trap
Chapter 484: Warden's Trap
As Iceheart came to a realization that she hadn't been killed by now was mostly thanks to the buffs that Xu Feng had provided to her, she found herself speechless.
With this realization, it meant that her solo kill and everything she had performed so far were because of Xu Feng's fantastic support ability.
It was not because she was strong and capable of soloing the enemies. Nothing hurts more than having the facts show her the reality.
She was positive that during the times the stone walls had been constructed by the Warden, her buff was slowly running out.
This meant that the sudden overwhelming strength that the Warden had suddenly mustered was not entirely true. Sure, the Warden had increased their strength to overwhelm her, but the real reason that she got easily overwhelmed was because most of her buffs had run out.
The only one that hadn't and was discovered by her was the defense buff.
Had it not been for the defense buff still having some time left, she couldn't imagine if she could have survived that one impact.
'But how was his buff that far above the Clerics in our guild?' Iceheart pursed her lips. She was more focused on the matter in which she had taken his buff for granted and mistakenly believed it was her own strength.
Nevertheless, there was no point in overthinking much now that the stone walls were just a few meters from her.
'Whatever, it's just a single death. I still have 9 lives left.' She thought to herself, recalling the revival limit. Since this was still a game, death in the Divine World didn't mean the end of the world.
With that thought, she closed her eyes, ready to accept her fate of being crushed by the Warden's trap.
However, as the stone walls loomed closer, sealing her in. There was a sudden loud trembling sensation that shook the ground beneath her feet.
Startled, Iceheart's eyes snapped open in confusion.
The crushing walls that were just mere moments from a fatal collision of crushing her and turning her into meat paste, began to quiver violently.
Then, with a deafening crack, one of the walls shattered with a small hole opening.
A powerful external force had obliterated it from the outside. Through the crumbling debris and small hole, Iceheart could see flashes of light and hear the distinct sounds of battle—someone was out there.
Shortly after, the small hole expanded as the mysterious force broke through again, forcing a large opening in the wall.
Dust and debris filled the air as Iceheart gasped, realizing she was no longer trapped, albeit not in the claustrophobic sense.
"Who is it?" She tried to peek through the hole to check who was rescuing her, but couldn't see anything due to the dust piling up.
"Oh my, did the ice-cold beauty suddenly turn into a dummy?" Amidst her confusion, she suddenly heard a very familiar yet hateful tone.
"Raid Leader?" Her mouth was left agape when she called him out doubtfully.
Never once did she expect the person to come to her rescue to be Xu Feng. After all, she had clashed with him repeatedly even though she had dwindled it down by now.
"Heh, at least you still recognized who's the one in charge here." Xu Feng mused as his mask became in full display for Iceheart through the hole's opening in the wall.
"Anyway, you might want to take a few steps back. This skill is going to cause some damage and you might get hit by the debris." He then warned cheekily.
Usually, Iceheart would have become frustrated at this moment, but it didn't happen. She quietly and obediently nodded her head and stepped back as much as she could in this tight space. The trap created by the Warden was truly a despicable one, to say the least.
Since the Warden understood her intention of blocking their path to assist fellow Wardens, it had retaliated by ensuring no paths were left available for Iceheart to move.
While Iceheart realized how intelligent and petty the Elite Enemies were, Xu Feng, on the other side, cast Nether Blast once again, effectively expanding the hole large enough for Iceheart to squeeze through.
"I hope you're not fat and chonky here." Xu Feng teased as he patted the expanded hole, gesturing for her to crawl through before the walls squashed her to death.
Iceheart shot him a death glare in response but didn't waste any time.
"Never mind, you're still the hateful Raid Leader," She hissed in annoyance as she quickly crawled through the gap.
Just a second after she had escaped from the enclosed place, the walls slammed together with a thunderous crash, crushing everything that remained inside.
The trap would have been the end of her, had she been even a second slower.
And although Iceheart had mentally prepared herself for death by being crushed, witnessing it unfold before her eyes was an entirely different experience.
The sheer force with which the walls slammed together sent a shiver down her spine, and she felt her scalp tingle with an involuntary sense of dread.
Her hands trembled slightly as the sound of stone grinding against stone echoed in her ears, and she realized just how close she had come to a brutal demise. Despite her typical bravado, the sight of the crushing walls stirred a nervousness she hadn't expected. Your next read awaits at My Virtual Library Empire
Goosebumps prickled up her arms as she muttered under her breath, "That was way too close."
She took a few moments before regaining her composure as doubts started to race in her mind. She lifted her chin up and gazed at him skeptically, "Why did you come to my rescue?"
Having clashed fiercely numerous times. Iceheart found it baffling that Xu Feng was willing to take his time off from commanding the battle to rescue her when she had gone solo again.
"I rescued you because you're a member under my leadership." Xu Feng flatly commented.
"Also, you might have foolishly gotten yourself played by the Warden, but you didn't do it out of impulse or attempt a heroic act. You did it to buy time for your teammates to finish off a weakened Warden, and that alone meant that you were a team player. Why wouldn't I rescue a person like that?"
