Chapter 152: Attacking the Kobold Village (3)

The tower exploded in fire and splintered wood. The fire expanded outward as the tower crumbled down. Half of the Kobold Archers in the tower jumped off while the remaining half fell with the tower. The wood that was on fire was sent flying in all directions. Some reached toward the house, burning the hay roof.

Chaos erupted among the kobolds’ line. They panicked, realizing they were not safe inside their own village.

Red immediately moved back to where the Chief was. "I need thirty breaths to fire another fireball!" He informed them of the cooldown.

He was reluctant to tell the cooldown because it could be used against him, but he didn’t have any other excuses if the Chief asked to shoot another fireball consecutively. The Chief seemed to have an understanding of such a skill that he was not questioned.

"Make a path on the right side of their wall as well! We will storm them from both sides if they decide to hole up in their village!" The Chief responded with another order.

Red nodded and moved to a different position. He was currently in the opposite direction of the spot where he fired the first fireball. He was observing the village from a distance.

The chaos was subdued under the presence of the Kobold Chief. They also managed to put out the fire that might spread to their houses. The kobolds that stood in the falling wall returned to their original position, but that first fireball clearly left a deep impression on them.

Red expected the kobolds to move out to fight them out, but they decided to hole up. They didn’t have any intention of going out and fighting them outside. Considering their structure and formation, that made sense. Fighting outside the village would render those Kobold Archers useless. Useless, as it meant they might accidentally shoot their own people.

Thirty seconds passed; there was no movement from the village. He activated the fireball with six times mana again, and he aimed at the intact wall to the right of the village.

The Kobold Chief this time managed to throw his spear, but Red quickly ducked after firing the fireball. He was leaning his back against the trunk.

The spear was much faster than his fireball’s traveling speed. He heard a loud thud as the spear landed on the trunk. The throw was so powerful that the tree shook. He could feel the vibration. It was then followed by another explosion, the fireball hitting the wall.

The ground shook for a moment as the kobolds’ scream echoed. Red could not really see what happened, but he could imagine the wall burst apart and was on fire because of his fireball.

He quickly got back on his feet and moved away from his spot, returning to where the Chief was. To ensure he was safe from the Kobold Chief, he climbed to a higher branch. Then he peeked through the canopy.

The wall on the right side of the village was destroyed, blazing in fire. The fire was spreading, and the kobolds were in shambles. Many kobolds’ bodies lay on the ground, engulfed by the fire. Some of them were still running on fire; some were also crawling under the fire.

The Kobold Chief was having a hard time calming down his people. It was just too destructive, and he could not organize his people quickly.

That was when the Kobold Chief stared dagger at the goblin force’s direction. It was still holding two spears even after throwing two of them earlier.

Red subconsciously looked at the spear in front of him. The one that missed when he tried to shoot a fireball from the open clearing. He focused on the spearhead. It was made from a different metal than the armor and the sword that the Elite Kobold Fighter used.

The steel was silver instead of black, and then he turned toward where the second spear was. He could not tell if the spearhead of the second spear was made of the same material as the first spear. The spear was totally stuck inside the tree, the full spearhead.

’I must get one of them. Maybe I can work on that steel for something else...’

He was distracted for a moment when he looked back to the village. The Kobold Chief made his move, throwing the third spear. This time he was not the target. The target was the Chief who stood at the edge of the jungle.

The spear shot toward the Chief at unbelievable speed. For Red, that was easily dodged. He knew the spear was coming, quick but not quick enough to catch him off guard. Especially when he had his eyes on the village all the time.

However, the Chief thought differently. Instead of dodging the spear, he stepped forward and bent his body slightly. He was holding the axe with both hands, then he swung his axe upward. The axe hit straight to the spearhead, directing the spear upward.

CLANK!

The buzzing between the two metals echoed, buzzing in everyone’s ears. The spear went upward, spinning the air for a moment before landing next to the Chief. The Chief raised his axe to the air.

"UWOOOOOO!"

Hobgoblins and goblins cheered for the Chief. Their voices echoed, reaching the village. They were proud of their Chief, and the cheers and screams got louder. That added a bit of provocation for the kobolds.

Red had to admit what the Chief did was amazing to be able to stop such a big spear and powerful throw. Not just the Chief was powerful enough to stop the spear, but also precise. Missing the timing just a bit would be a fatal hit to the chest. It would kill the Chief to get struck by that spear.

Red admired the Chief for his strength and courage. He could understand why the goblin and the hobgoblin were obedient, but the Chief still had one flaw. That was his pride. The Chief often acted based on his pride even though he could tell that he was actually smarter than most.

That cheer truly got into the Kobold Chief as he ordered the kobolds to attack. The actual battle just started.
