Red Monster
Chapter 150: Attacking The Kobold Village (1)
Red found the remaining fourteen Kobold Scouts’ bodies, plus two Elite Kobold Fighters granted by the Chief. He got thirty-four inferior cores from the fourteen Kobold Scouts. It was fifteen Might Cores and nineteen Magic Cores.
The two Elite Kobold Fighters gave him six Mediocre Cores, three Might Cores and three Magic Cores. He kept them inside his Storage Pouch. Not because he wanted to save them for Darla, but because he was so close to level 17.
His Might Stats reached the threshold, and his Magic Stats were close to the threshold. His Intelligence had reached the threshold, with the remaining three being very close.
He didn’t want to use his Mediocre Quality Cores for the magic, given how close they were, especially his Arcane Perception. He only needed one more Magic Core for it to reach the threshold. That was why he saved the mediocre quality cores for later. Consequently, his Storage Pouch is full, as his cores took the three remaining slots.
He was quick with his loot, but that was not the case for the others. It took them some time to dispose of the bodies. Mostly the trouble of splitting the loot.
The fight took numbers on their side as well. More than fifty goblins were actually dead, and eighteen hobgoblins were also dead. It was substantial damage despite having an advantage.
They left with more than a hundred hobgoblins and over two hundred goblins. He didn’t know if they still had over a hundred hobgoblins with eighteen dead, but they still had a lot of goblins for sure.
The goblins didn’t get the loot. They were in charge of exchanging the loot for the hobgoblins and the Goblin Champions since their levels were low. It remained the same: the goblins were still treated as a meat shield. Worst of all, they didn’t have any choice but to follow the order.
Red was observing them from the tree. He was not even mingling with the group anymore after what happened. There was a chance that fool would still try to kill him despite how valuable he was to the group. That Goblin Champion was a fool, after all.
"I guess it’s Fool, Observer, and Reasonable now..." he muttered as he gave a new name to the temperamental Goblin Champion.
While observing the situation, he noticed something weird. The goblin only dropped the Might Cores. Their loot only consisted of the Might Cores, not a single Magic Core.
The reason he was observing from up there was that he wanted to see the flow of the Magic Cores. The Chief and the Goblin Champion didn’t have a use for the Magic Cores. He wanted them if they didn’t use them. But to his surprise, not a single Magic Core dropped.
Red was confused by the difference. Why so? He frowned, trying to think of the reason behind this bizarre situation. There might be something that differentiated him from these goblins.
"What is it?" He muttered.
It took him some time to find the lead. "It’s the path! I take Might and Magic Path, and they take Might Path. That’s what happened here, right?"
That was a reasonable suspicion. He was offered Might Path, Magic Path, and Might & Magic Path. He didn’t know what the goblins took, but since none of them could use magic. That meant they didn’t take Magic Path, which resulted in not dropping the Magic Core.
That was a possibility, but unfortunately, that was not the only possibility. The possibility of him being a different race than the goblin was there. It might be because he was not a goblin. That might affect the looting situation. His luck was considered better too, and that might be affected because he was not a goblin too.
There were too many variables, but he lacked the information to reach the conclusion. He put away the thoughts, shaking his head. It was pointless to think deeper about it.
All the bodies were exchanged for loot, including the hobgoblins and goblins. Nothing was left by the end of it. That was when the Chief summoned Red again.
Red was reluctant to meet the Chief because he knew the fool would be there. Sure enough, the fool glared at him intensely. If those eyes could shoot fire, he would be burned already.
"I believe we can’t use the same tactic again?" The Chief asked, consulting.
"I believe so, but I can try again. But yes, it might not work because we have killed too many of them," Red agreed with the Chief.
They had killed over a hundred, maybe a hundred and fifty normal kobolds, and eighteen Elite Kobold Fighters.
"Then we don’t have a choice but to attack the village now. I wish for you to make more holes in the wall, and maybe take down those towers. Their archers would kill a lot of our goblins if we left them be."
Red was surprised that the Chief talked about a proper way of strategy. Not really strategy, just a plan. That was an improvement over sending the goblins as the meat shield in the front.
"I have taken down one tower. I can take down one more tower and make another hole for us to enter the village. But I need thirty breaths for each fireball. However..."
He had a better plan than the Chief but hesitated to say it.
The Chief looked at him. "Speak!"
"I think it’s better for me to attack the village with a fireball and force them out of the village. We fight them outside the village, not inside. Those houses will give them an advantage over us, and it is also an obstacle for us since we have a numerical advantage. I think the battle will be more in our favor if we fight in the open clearing."
That was his assessment of the situation. He might be wrong, but he found his assessment made sense. He once fought the kobolds in his village, and he used the building to his advantage. He didn’t know if the kobold would do the same, but he didn’t want to find out himself.
