Chapter 702: Chapter 698: Kick Her Out

“Shawn Lane, what are you doing?”

Kylie Churchill stormed over, glaring at Shawn as she demanded an answer, while also shooting a venomous look at Cecilia Sterling.

Cecilia, however, simply offered a defiant smirk, which only made Kylie even more furious.

“Kylie, it’s fine. Let’s go.”

As Shawn spoke, he reached for Kylie’s arm to lead her away, but she sidestepped his grasp. She turned to Cecilia and snarled, “Let me make this clear. You are not to pester Shawn anymore. He has a girlfriend now, and it’s me!”

“He wasn’t into you before, and he’s certainly not interested now. So you’d better drop whatever pathetic little ideas you’re nursing, or I won’t be so nice anymore!”

‘Nice?’

‘When has this simpleton ever been nice to me?’

Cecilia sneered, glancing at the guilt-ridden Shawn Lane before asking contemptuously, “Is that right? Is that what Shawn told you? Did he not…”

“Cecilia!”

Shawn cut her off sharply, struggling to maintain his composure. “What’s past is past. I don’t want it to affect us now…”

“Is it really in the past?” Cecilia asked.

Shawn nodded.

“Fine,” Cecilia said with a satisfied smile, her tone becoming domineering. “Then swear an oath, right here in front of your girlfriend. Swear that from now on, you’ll walk the other way whenever you see me and that you’ll never initiate a conversation with me. Because the very sight of you makes me sick to my stomach.”

“And you,” she added, looking at Kylie, “his new, hyper-aggressive girlfriend. Stop shrieking and making a scene every time you see me. You look like your brain is underdeveloped and your cerebellum is non-existent. I’m allergic to stupidity!”

“You…”

Kylie was so choked with anger she couldn’t speak. Rage flooded her senses, making her see stars.

But before she could say a word, Shawn, standing beside her, readily agreed. “Fine. I promise. The two of us will never bother you again.”

He spoke with a forced calm, as if he were serenely cutting ties with someone.

Kylie stared at Shawn in disbelief. “Shawn, why… why are you being so spineless? What are you so afraid of her for?”

“Kylie, stop making a scene. Let’s go,” Shawn coaxed, his tone gentle as he reached for her again.

‘The only reason he was acting so calm was to stop Kylie from losing control and making a bigger scene.’

But Kylie had clearly lost control. A true princess who had been pampered her whole life, when had she ever been so humiliated to her face by some vain, shallow woman?

She angrily flung Shawn’s hand away and glared at Cecilia, her eyes blazing with fury. “He might humor you, but I’m not afraid of you!”

That outburst was too much, even for Jonah Goodman.

‘This girl really is an idiot. Even he, a total bystander, could see that Shawn was just trying to find an excuse to end the confrontation quickly. How could she not see that?’

“Kylie!” Seeing her go berserk, Shawn started to panic, terrified she would provoke Cecilia. “Stop it!”

“Me, making a scene?” Kylie asked, her eyes red with fury. “What did I do? Are you defending her?”

‘He wasn’t protecting *her*,’ Shawn fumed internally, ‘he was protecting his own damn ass!’

‘He deeply regretted the lie he’d told Kylie just to make himself look good. Now, he lived in constant fear that Cecilia would expose it right in front of her.’

‘If that happened, the entire persona he’d worked so hard to build for Kylie would crumble into dust!’

“Of course not. I just don’t think it’s necessary,” Shawn said, trying to reason with her patiently.

Cecilia raised an eyebrow, watching Shawn flail about like an ant on a hot pan. She looked on like a detached observer, an unconscious smile playing on her lips.

‘It had been over a year. No matter how respectable he tried to look on the outside, he hadn’t matured one bit on the inside.’

‘Sure enough, a person’s rotten nature is deep-seated. A trip abroad isn’t enough to cleanse it.’

Kylie, seething with a mix of grief and fury, was in no mood to back down.

Just then, a staff member who had heard the commotion walked over.

“Is there a problem? Do you need any assistance?”

The man was just a regular staff member; the title on his name tag read ‘Supervisor,’ not even a manager.

Upon seeing the staff member, Kylie immediately pointed at Cecilia and commanded, “Get her out of Cirrus Palace! Right now!”

Cecilia: ?

‘Has this woman lost her mind?’

Jonah Goodman: ?

‘Is this woman for real?’

Shawn Lane: !

‘You’re going to be the death of me!’

Staff member: !

‘I have that kind of authority?’

A second later, however, the staff member realized he had no such authority. He could only say apologetically, “I’m sorry, miss. If this is a private dispute, please handle it amongst yourselves. I don’t have the authority to remove anyone.”

“I’m ordering you to throw her out!” Kylie enunciated each word, her tone sharp and resonant. “Do you have any idea who I am?”

The staff member maintained his polite smile and gave a solemn shake of his head.

Kylie declared, “Let me tell you something. I’m the daughter of the chairman of the Churchill Group. My father is about to acquire this place. If you don’t throw her out, I’ll have you fired!”

Hearing this, Jonah, who didn’t know the full story, frowned.

‘He knew how powerful the Churchill Group was. And seeing how utterly convinced Kylie seemed, there was a good chance it was true.’

‘He instinctively glanced at Cecilia, only to find her as calm and unruffled as ever. Her eyes held the detached amusement of someone watching a good show.’

The staff member, upon hearing this, froze.

Rumors that Cirrus Palace was about to be acquired had been spreading like wildfire among the staff for the past couple of days. Everyone had heard something about it.

And the strongest of those rumors was that the Churchill Group would be the final buyer.

‘If this woman really is the chairman’s daughter, that would make her his future boss!’

At this thought, the staff member became visibly flustered.

“What are you standing there gawking for? Hurry up and call security!” Kylie demanded.

Cold sweat broke out on Shawn’s back. Just as he was about to step in and stop her, another person approached.

“What’s going on here?”

At the sound of the voice, everyone looked over. The newcomer was none other than one of Cirrus Palace’s owners, Mr. Holden.

He happened to be the very person Cecilia had met and been speaking with just a short while ago.

“Director Holden, you’re here! This is…”

The staff member was clearly rattled. Relieved to see his boss, he quickly ducked behind him.

Mr. Holden raised a hand, signaling the employee to be quiet. He walked forward and, under everyone’s watchful eyes, suddenly extended a hand toward Cecilia. A warm smile spread across his face as he greeted her enthusiastically, “Miss Sterling! I see you’re here today as well!”

Shawn Lane: ?

‘What’s going on?’

Jonah Goodman: ?

‘Huh?’

Kylie Churchill: ?

‘Is this right?’

Cecilia smiled and shook his hand. “I’m here with a friend.”

“Has there been some sort of unpleasantness?” Mr. Holden asked. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
